wenn1623866.jpg

Shanna Moakler is sticking by her ex-husband, Travis Barker, as he heads back to Los Angeles after being badly burned in a plane crash just over a week ago.

“She is so devoted to him [and] he appreciates it so much,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “She’s sticking by him. She is with him. Despite everything that’s happened to them, they love each other.”

Barker, 32, was released from the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga., on Monday and is headed back to Los Angels on a bus. He is “going to another hospital in L.A,” says the source. “He wants to be home.”

Another source tells PEOPLE: “Trust me, [Travis] will never fly again – ever.”

As for the state of the musician’s health, “he’s not in good shape,” says the source. “It’s still serious. It’s very serious.”

Still, one thing seems certain: For the time being, Moakler will be there to support her ex. “She’s concerned about him and hopes he’s okay,” says the source. “They’ve come to terms with what’s going on and are dealing with it.”

“Travis is in good condition and was discharged this morning,” Burn Center spokesperson Beth Frits told PEOPLE Monday. “He has left Augusta.”

The musician, 32, was admitted in critical condition in the early hours of Sept. 20 after a Learjet 60 carrying him and five others crashed upon takeoff from the South Carolina’s Columbia Metropolitan Airport, about an hour away.

New Details on How Travis Barker and DJ AM Survived Plane Crash

wenn5190236.jpg

How did Travis Barker and DJ AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) survive the plane crash that killed four people and left them with second- and third-degree burns?

“[Travis and Adam] told me that they slid down the wing on the right side of the plane,” Lieut. Josh Shumpert of the South Congaree Police Department tells PEOPLE. Shumpert was one of the second responders at the scene – Congaree is the town outside of Columbia, S.C. – after the airport police arrived.

They said they were on fire,” adds Shumpert, whose patrol car’s dashboard camera caught video of the fiery aftermath, “and that they tackled each other and put each other out.”

“When I got there they were on the side of the road,” says Shumpert. “They were pacing and in shock.”

“Travis was very shaken up,” he says, noting that Barker was given Gatorade after he asked for some water.

According to the lieutenant, the pair weren’t naked, contrary to eyewitness statements.

“Travis was wearing some kind of shorts and no shirt,” says Shumpert, adding that Goldstein was wearing shorts or boxers as well. “Travis had one sock on. And a black hat on his head.”

The fast reactions of the former Blink 182 drummer Barker, 32, and Goldstein, 35, gave them a good chance of a full recovery.

“Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn’t suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected,” said Dr. Fred Mullins of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors’ Hospital in Augusta at a Sunday morning press conference.

Mullins added that recovery from such burns can take as long as a year.

Shanna Moakler on Crash: “Our Lives Will Be Changed Forever”

Shanna Moakler has released the following statement regarding Travis Barker’s weekend jet crash:

“There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time. We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever.”

Moakler, who is now back together with Barker after a 2004 divorce (they have two kids together), is with the rocker as he recovers from second and third degree burns at the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia. He is expected to make a full recovery.

He has been receiving an outpouring of support from his celebrity friends.

DJ Steve Aoki and Jermaine Dupri paid him a visit over the weekend.

“It’s a seriously sad situation,” Dupri told Usmagazine.com. “He’s doing good… but I really hate to see my friends go through this.”

On Monday, a coroner determined that smoke and fire killed the pilot and co-pilot while impact-related injuries killed two other passengers.

While a cause for the crash has yet to officially be determined, a blown tire during takeoff may be to blame.

In a statement, Goodyear, the tire’s manufacturer, said: “We have been contacted by the [National Transportation Safety Board] and will cooperate fully with its investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this accident.”

While Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured in a plane crash Friday night, it cost the lives of two crew members and two other passengers.

A coroner in South Carolina, where the crash of the Learjet occurred, has determined that the pilot and co-pilot died from smoke inhalation and burns while the two passengers were killed by impact-related injuries.

Barker, the former drummer for Blink 182, and DJ AM, suffered second and third degree burns from the incident but are expected to make full recoveries. Barker has burns on his torso and lower body and DJ AM has burns on his arm and part of his head.

Wife of Travis Barker Pal Not in Labor at Time of Crash, Rep Says

bishop-travisbarker.jpg

Chris Baker – Travis Barker’s pal who died in Friday’s jet crash – was not on his way home to be with his pregnant wife, reps for Barker and DJ AM tell Usmagazine.com.

“Various outlets have published a grossly erroneous and exaggerated reported that the plane was chartered so they could get home for the birth of Chris Baker’s second child. This is untrue,” reps said in a statement to Us.

“The group chartered the plane to go to the next party they were playing out. In fact, Chris’s wife was not in labor and she wasn’t even pregnant. They already have a two-year-old child. That is not why they chartered the plane and this report is completely false.”

Doctor: Travis Barker & DJ AM expected to recover

Travis Barker & DJ AM

There is promising long-range news in the medical condition of air-tragedy victims Travis Barker and DJ AM.

The medical director of the Georgia burn center where the two are being treated after their escape from a fiery plane crash around midnight Friday said Sunday morning that both critically injured men are expected to make full recoveries.

Dr. Fred Mullins of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors’ Hospital in Augusta said at a press conference that former Blink 182 drummer Barker, 32, and DJ Am (real name: Adam Goldstein), 35, are being treated for second- and third-degree burns.

Mullins says recovery from such burns can take as long as a year but says that the men suffered no other injuries, adding: “Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn’t suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected.”

As for a timeline, though he said recovery could require a year, Mullins also noted, “I would expect it would be much sooner than that.”

Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso and lower body, while DJ AM, was burned on his arms and a portion of his head. The doctor described both as remaining in critical but stable condition and in the intensive-care unit of the hospital.

Regarding their emotional state, he declined to discuss specifics, but said of burn victims that “45 percent of all patients have some emotional trouble.”

Families Ask for Privacy
There were six people on the plane, and the other four perished. They were pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif.; security guard Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles; and Barker’s assistant Chris Baker, 29, also of Los Angeles.

On Saturday, the mother of Barker’s ex-wife Shanna Moakler told PEOPLE that her daughter was on her way to Georgia to be at Barker’s side. Sources tell People that Moakler was seen at the hospital later that day.

Dr. Mullins also said at the press conference Sunday: “The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them their families and friends is requested at this time.”
