Last month marked the most frenetic time of Tori Spelling’s life. On March 13, the star of Tori & Dean: Inn Love gave birth to son Liam, her first child with husband of 11 months, actor Dean McDermott, 40.

But Liam didn’t come easily.

Spelling’s water broke 15 days earlier than expected and her doctor had to induce labor, which ended up lasting 17 hours. The contractions “felt like I was being Tasered!” the 33-year-old actress tells Us in an exclusive interview.

“As foolish as this sounds now, I wanted to feel how bad it would hurt. But I think I let the pain go on a little too long before I got the epidural.”

When Liam’s heartbeat started dropping, the actress’ doctor, Dr. Jason Rothbart (also Angelina Jolie’s Ob-Gyn), explained he needed to perform a Cesarean section.

“I asked Dr. Rothbart if he’d do a good job, and he said, ‘Well, Angelina didn’t complain.’ So I was like, ‘If Angelina let him do a C-section in Africa, I am OK. I felt comforted by that.’”

Spelling’s good spirits can also be attributed to another recent significant event: She and her mom, Candy, 61, recently reconciled after a nine-month estrangement. In fact the two reconnected for the first time when Candy showed up at L.A.’s Cedars Sinai Medical Center on March 12 to be with her daughter while she was going into labor with Liam.

“I’m so happy she’s back in my life,” Spelling tells Us. “Having a child puts it all in perspective. Knowing the bond I have with Liam means that I get my mom’s bond with me.”

On Saturday, Tori Spelling, 33, sent out a blog of thanks to all the people who have wished her well:

Thank you so much for all the congratulatory messages on the arrival of Liam. Everyone has been so kind and we loved reading all your messages and comments. We are finally out of the hospital and spent our first day at home with little Liam. Its been the most amazing week and experience of my life. We feel so blessed.Liam, as many of you know, was born Tuesday, March 13th. He weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces and is 19 1/2inches long. And, I might be a biased mommy but he is so beautiful. I just stare at him in amazement. I can’t believe I have been given this unbelievable little gift.

Tori Spelling gave birth Tuesday to a boy with husband actor Dean McDermott. Little Liam Aaron McDermott, who weighed 6 lbs, 6 oz was born at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Spelling, 33, and McDermott, 40, were married in May 2006. This is the first child for Spelling and second child for McDermott, who has a son from a previous marriage. And like the hippest children in Hollywood, Liam enters the world as the product of two stars of a reality series Tori & Dean: Inn Love, which premieres March 20th on Oxygen.

A source close to the couple says, “Everyone is happy and healthy.”

The birth of Liam Aaron might spell happier times for the Spelling clan. After patriarch Aaron Spelling’s death in June, Tori and her mother exchanged ugly words in public. And Tori recently told Us that she feared extending an olive branch to her mother because, “she’ll only get hurt again.” But Grandma Candy has reportedly said she wants to patch things up with her estranged daughter and was apparently at the hospital to welcome her grandson into the world.

“Extra” has learned that Tori Spelling is in labor. Spelling and her husband, Dean McDermott, arrived this morning at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles where she is expected to deliver her first child, a son.

With a grandchild on the way, Candy Spelling tells PEOPLE exclusively that she and estranged daughter Tori are trying to patch up their relationship.

“We have been in touch with each other and are in the process of communicating and working things out,” Candy Spelling says.

According to Tori’s brother (and Candy’s son), Randy Spelling, 28, “My sister and my mom have been communicating for the past few weeks” – and are planning to see each other soon.

“They are going to be there for each other and [Tori's soon-to-arrive] baby. My mom is having a grandchild, and it puts things into perspective,” Randy says.

Randy adds that despite what has happened in the past, “No matter what, we are family, and they’re resolving things and getting back together. They are communicating, and it makes both of them happy. It’s definitely a mutual thing.”

On Monday’s Today, Tori, 33, also said she was hoping to reconcile with her mother but did not go into specifics.

The bad blood between mother and daughter seems to stem from a variety of factors – including the negative portrayal of the mother character in Tori’s VH1 sitcom So NoTORIous. Things worsened after Tori’s father Aaron Spelling died in June.

However, Randy, who stars in the A&E program Sons of Hollywood (debuting April 1), says that the imminent arrival of Tori’s baby with her husband Dean McDermott is helping ease the tension.

He says his mom is “so excited” about becoming a grandmother. “You always have that motherly instinct,” he says. “People can fight, but they love each other.”
