While rumors and reports of a split between Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo have been floating around for several days, neither the pop star nor her quarterback cutie have come forward to put a stop to them — even her dad Joe Simpson told OK! yesterday that he has no idea what’s going on with the couple.

However, a source close to Jess not only confirms to OK! that the pair are “on a break” from each other, but also says this is nothing new for the couple.

“They have broke up and got back together countless times,” the Simpson family insider explains to OK!. Perhaps, as another source has told OK! in the past, it’s because Tony has never viewed this relationship seriously.

And now, with Jess going on nationally syndicated TV earlier this week, gushing about how she’s looking to get hitched and start a family — just like her little sister Ashlee Simpson, who is slated to wed Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz this weekend — the insider tells OK! that the Employee of the Month star is putting down her foot and delivering an ultimatum to Tony.

“If Tony doesn’t attend Ashlee and Pete’s wedding this weekend,” say the source, “She will never forgive him. If he doesn’t show they are over for good.”

Star can exclusively reveal that Lindsey Betrus, a 21-year-old recent grad of Michigan State University, is the mystery woman who was by Tony Romo’s side for the entire evening at Chicago’s Manor nightclub on May 10.

Local sources out of Dallas are now confirming what Star reported in our current issue — that Tony, 28, and girlfriend Jessica Simpson, 27, have broken up. And as our exclusive picture shows, it’s no wonder why blonde and beautiful Lindsey caught Tony’s eye that night — while Jessica was back in L.A.

“Lindsey is a terrific, down-to-earth woman — and she’s never been a Hooters Girl, as some people have mistakenly reported!” a source tells Star. “And as for her time with Tony, he was totally the aggressor that evening!”

Looks like Jessica Simpson could be attending her sister’s wedding alone this weekend.

The singer and her Dallas Cowboys quarterback beau Tony Romo have reportedly split, sources told the Dallas Morning News.

Despite rep denials, “two people close to Tony and Jess have told me that the glam couple is splitsville, kaput, over, put a fork in it,” columnist Alan Peppard wrote.

The new issue of Us Weekly reports that over the weekend, Romo partied at Chicago club Manor with a bevy of blondes and announced to pals: “We are broken up.”

A rep for the pair insisted to Us earlier this week that the singer is “very happy with Tony…they are both happy together.”

But when the Morning News caught up with Romo at the Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas, he fumed, “I’m not talking about Jessica.”

Just last month Simpson was referring to Romo as her “future husband” and he was seen ring-shopping.

The pair hooked up in November.

Jessica Simpson loves having her picture with boyfriend Tony Romo – because she enjoys seeing them grace the pages of tabloid magazines as a couple.

The pair has been dating for a mere five months, but Simpson insists she’s already fallen for the American football star and refuses to shy away from the limelight in an effort to hide her romance from the public.

Simpson says, “I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t want to see Tony (Romo) and me in the (tabloid) pictures. It is a good airplane reading if you throw it away when you get off. I’m good at that.

“I am not the type of person who believes everything she reads, but I like to look at photos and see what people are wearing. That’s interesting to me. Do I read the stories? Not really. I try not to read blogs. The comments are extremely harsh.”

Us Weekly reports in its latest issue that Jessica Simpson is calling Tony Romo her “future husband.”

Now, she tells the June issue of Glamour, that she is “in love” with the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, whom she says helped her gain more confidence.

She says she even wrote him a song, “Back in My Old Boots.”

“He reintroduced me to myself,” Simpson says. “I thought that I had to be deeper, more profound and more artsy. You change with the guys you date.

“Tony taught me that because he loves me [as me]. He made me feel comfortable [being myself] again,” she adds.

She dismisses critics who claimed she jinxed his career by showing up at one of his football games that he lost last year.

“Everybody takes everything out on me! But that was ludicrous,” she says. “I don’t understand why they think that I would be a distraction to Tony. Do they really think he can see way far up in that box? No.”

She says Romo first caught her eye while she was going through her divorce with Nick Lachey.

“My family and I were watching a Cowboys game … and — Tony would die if I told you this — but [on TV there was a story] about him,” she says. “They said his celebrity dream crush was Jessica Simpson.

“My family was like, ‘Did you just hear that?’” she goes on. “His picture came up, and I’m like, ‘He’s really cute.’ Then I heard [that I was his crush], and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!’”

They met a year-and-a-half later after a pal introduced Tony to her dad, Joe Simpson.

After Tony spotted Jessica and Joe at the Country Music Awards last November, “Tony e-mailed my dad, ‘Cute date,’” Simpson reveals.

“My dad was like, ‘Look what Tony said,’ Simpson says. “I said, ‘Give him my e-mail address. We’ll see if he’s good with words.’ Then he e-mailed me, and we flirted over e-mail and on the phone.”

She says they got to know each other “by talking, which I think is the best way.”

On their first date, Simpson admits, “I had butterflies that you would not imagine. I wanted to puke in the cup holder … It took me forever to put together an outfit!”

He tried to kiss her on their first date. “I was taken aback….

“The fact that this guy, on our first date, in the first 10 minutes of dinner, wanted to lean over the table and say, ‘This is my girl, and I want to kiss her’ — our first kiss in front of everybody — was awesome,” she says.

She also hints about her split with Nick Lachey, saying, “There’s too much competition [being with a musician]. There’s too much know-it-all pop star.”

Jessica Simpson threw Tony Romo a 28th birthday party he’ll never forget: She licked cake off his face!

The PDA-packed bash took place Saturday night at Suite, a lounge in Dallas, where “she sang him ‘Happy Birthday,’” Kyle Kearbey of DMagazine.com, the Web site for Dallas’ D Magazine, tells Usmagazine.com.

The two really seemed to enjoy the cake, which was in the shape of a Dallas Cowboys star and had Romo’s No. 9 jersey number on it.

“They were kissing with lots of messy cake!” adds Kearbey. “Jessica had cake all over her hands and was licking her thumbs.”

Adds another source, “It was a fun night, but it got too crazy with everyone trying to take pictures and come over. It was insane.”

Simpson and Romo, says the source, “are doing great. They are really happy.”
