Secret Hollywood Fued?

l37p001a1.jpg

The past few months have been good to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. On July 12, soon after moving into a $60 million mansion in France, they welcomed twins Vivienne and Knox into their family. Things have been equally hectic for Hollywood’s other super couple, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Tom, 46, has gotten raves for his role in the box-office smash Tropic Thunder but has had to deal with the constantly changing release date of his World War II drama Valkyrie. Making their lives even busier, Katie’s in New York rehearsing for her Broadway debut in All My Sons (opening night is Oct. 16).

Although the two couples are living on different continents at the moment, that hasn’t stopped them from being competitive. Though reps for Tom and Katie deny a feud, “Brad’s and Angelina’s careers have taken off,” a Cruise family insider tells Life & Style. “It seems as though Tom’s always trying to compete with Brad, and that’s a difficult job.”

After all, Brad, 44, and Angie, 33, are seen as Hollywood’s golden couple. “All the negative press Tom gets over Scientology and the rumors about how his relationship with Katie was fake have left him with the sense that he’s not, you know, as beloved anymore,” says an insider close to the couple. And Brad has these causes — save the children, rebuild New Orleans, donate to charity — while Angelina’s practically St. Angelina these days. How do you compete with that?” In fact, the insider says, Tom has started to kid that he’s past his prime: “He’ll turn to Katie and joke, ‘It’s up to you now, kid!’ He’ll laugh, but it’s a worry, too, like he’s tapping into some insecurity.”

Tom Cruise is looking for more comedic roles

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is keen to trade in his screen legacy as an action hero for more comedic roles after making a cameo appearance in new war comedy Tropic Thunder.

The Hollywood icon is unrecognizable as a chubby, balding movie executive in the new Ben Stiller film - featuring Stiller alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black.

And Cruise admits the role was an unexpected inspiration to make movie audiences laugh.

He says, “Well, I’m always looking for something new, and Ben’s (Stiller) movie is hilarious. He and I are old friends, and he is a really good director, so originally I said I’d do it just for friendship. But it turned out great. I actually love comedy, and I did it in Risky Business, so I’ll do more if it presents itself.”

Tom Cruise on Suri: So charming, so beautiful

Tom & Suri Cruise

Tom Cruise gushed to the New York Post’s Liz Smith about his family, saying he looks forward to wife Katie Holmes’ debut on Broadway in “All My Sons” on Sept. 18. When asked about his adorable tot Suri, Cruise said: “She’s so charming; she’s so beautiful; she’s just great!”

Tom also spoke about the stepping down of partner Paula Wagner from her post as CEO of United Artists, saying “I’ll say this of her leaving United Artists - whatever Paula wants is what I want her to have! And I hope we’ll continue working together on future projects.”

Tom Cruise gets David Beckham’s diet tips

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has reportedly been getting diet advice from soccer ace David Beckham.

The Top Gun star and his wife, Katie Holmes, became pals with Beckham when the soccer ace and his Spice Girl wife Victoria moved to Los Angeles last year.

And the actor is said to have shed 10 pounds in just six weeks with the sports star’s help.

A source tells Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, “David has been round at Tom’s house a lot. While Katie and Victoria have been swapping fashion tips on the phone, David has been advising Tom on diet. Tom has a private gym at his home and David has been working out with him. He also gave him diet advice. Tom has been sticking to 1,200 calories a day, mostly grilled chicken and fish with lots of vegetables, salads and fruit. David put together a work-out regime that included the treadmill, weight training and fencing lessons together.”

And the reason for the ageing actor’s sudden health kick appears to be to do with his young family.

The source adds, “Tom had been steadily gaining weight. He didn’t notice it at first but then he developed quite a paunch. He hated it when pictures started appearing of him with a belly and love handles. He turned 46 this summer and he’s got a 29-year-old wife and a young family so he wanted to get back in shape.”

Moviemaker Tom Cruise faces a crisis

Tom Cruise

Who knew Tom Cruise could shake it like a Polaroid picture?

Last week, he rocked audiences with his cameo as a profane, hip-jiggling, Machiavellian movie chief in ” Tropic Thunder.” The role was designed to show the world — and Hollywood insiders — that the one-time king of Hollywood didn’t take himself too seriously and even had comedic chops.

His performance was funny, but somehow as with all things Cruise these days, a black cloud emerged from the silver lining.

His tour de force was overshadowed by yet another hellish publicity week, which included debates over whether “Tropic Thunder” was degrading to the mentally disabled as well as an inaccurate story that Sony had replaced Cruise in the film “Edwin A. Salt” with “it” girl Angelina Jolie.

(According to several sources close to the project, it was Cruise who refused to commit to a start date, and his actual next film looks to be “The Tourist,” a remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer,” to be directed by Lasse Hallström.)
