Katie Holmes discussed the three M’s with David Letterman Monday night: marathons, her movie Mad Money and, most importantly, motherhood.

“They do grow up so quickly,” Holmes, mother of daughter Suri, who turns 2 in April, told the Late Show host (who is father of son Harry, who turned 4 in November).

Of being a parent, Holmes, 29, said, “It is beautiful [to] become part of that club. It’s sweet, and suddenly your life is just magical.”

Letterman wondered if, like he, Holmes tends to wake up her child when she’s napping, because she misses her so much. Holmes said she does do that to Suri, “and stare and kind of kiss her and see if, maybe, she’ll wake up.”

Bedtime for Suri? “She goes to sleep pretty late, because we go to sleep late,” says the mother. “Around 11.” She wakes up at 9 the next morning.

“Jackpot!” exclaimed Letterman, whose Harry is up at 6 every morning. “It’s like he was driving the Today Show crew to work.”

Holmes also said she wouldn’t mind if Suri grew up to become an actress. “I’m excited,” she said. “She’s so sweet and already talking a lot. You can already see she’s a wonderful artist.”

Not touched upon during Holmes’s visit was Andrew Morton’s controversial, unauthorized biography of Holmes’s husband, Tom Cruise, despite the publicity that the new book is receiving. Similarly, earlier on Monday Holmes spent eight minutes on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer, who also never broached the subject.

But in the GMA case, the program’s executive producer Jim Murphy told Tuesday’s New York Post’s Page Six that it had been Sawyer’s intention to inquire about Holmes’s reaction to the book, but the segment simply ran out of time.

“It was one of those bad calls on my part,” Murphy is quoted as saying. “Diane doesn’t generally get angry, but was she disappointed in how I handled it, yes.”

Murphy also told New York’s Daily News that there were no restrictions placed on Sawyer’s questions before the interview. “She had every intention of going there,” he said.

Cruise’s rep has called the book a “false, vicious and bigoted attack” on the actor and his family.

Andrew Morton makes some explosive allegations in his new book, Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography (out Tuesday). Among them: wife Katie Holmes signed a contract to commit to Scientology and that her father brokered a high-paying pre-nup.
Us Weekly distills the accusations in its latest issue, on newsstands now.

Morton claims Cruise had Holmes sign a document before they started dating that allowed “Scientologists full control over her life.” The alleged document required Holmes to “turn only to Scientology’s treatments” for herself and her children’s welfare and “must never use psychiatric care or psychiatric drugs.”

Morton maintains that Holmes’ father, Martin, an attorney, negotiated a pre-nup that would award her $3 million for each year of their marriage.

Holmes’ rep had no comment and the Church of Scientology told Us, “Ms. Holmes never signed any agreement.”

Holmes – praised for her glam makeover – recently congratulated Nicole Kidman on her pregnancy and attended the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Tom Cruise can now add hero to his already impressive résumé. On December 30, Tom was driving his Hummer near his home in Telluride, Colorado, with his wife, Katie Holmes, and his three children, Isabella 15, Connor, 13, and Suri, 21 months. Tom, 45, saw a woman who was stranded when her vehicle ran off the road. An onlooker tells In Touch, “The police were waiting with the woman for a tow truck and all of a sudden, a Hummer pulled up and it was Tom Cruise!” He and his bodyguard helped push the woman’s car out of the snow. The famous family had spent the holiday week frolicking in the snow. “We ski. We have big dinners and laugh,” Katie says. “We love cooking. Tom’s really good in the kitchen. He makes great pasta carbonara and lemon pasta.” Is there anything he doesn’t do well? Tom regularly rescues damsels in distress on the big screen. Tom and Katie, 29, wished the woman a happy New Year as they drove away.

A new biography of Tom Cruise claims he was encouraged to end his marriage to Nicole Kidman by Scientology bosses. Andrew Morton’s controversial book alleges the church soured towards Kidman after she gave an interview describing herself as a “Catholic girl”.

Morton alleges that in 1999, Cruise took a course that would identify those in his life who create problems and difficulties and Kidman was identified as such. Shortly after her interview, senior Scientology leaders discussed their strategy to keep Tom in the fold. Their fear was that Nicole could fatally compromise Tom’s commitment to his faith.

He claims that Kidman discovered she was pregnant after the split and Tom sent flowers but never visited.
