Katie is shooting a film, “Mad Money,” in Louisiana, and while she’s away from her reportedly controlling spouse she’s “quietly reclaiming parts of her past,” according to Life & Style.
The mag reports that Holmes is reconnecting with family and friends and even secretly talking to Catholic priests. Holmes was raised a Catholic, but since her marriage, has embraced Scientology, her husband’s religion.
The “Batman Returns” star recently called a childhood pal named Meghann Birie, whom she hadn’t seen since meeting Cruise two years ago, reports L&S.
“She wanted to talk to someone not in Camp Cruise,” a friend told the mag. “Katie told Meghann she can’t believe she abandoned her old life.”
The actress hasn’t been to church lately, but is “secretly talking to pastors” for advice, and wants to enroll Suri in “kiddie Catholicism” classes, according to L&S.
What’s more, Holmes also plans to visit her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, this summer and has invited her parents to the “Mad Money” set.
“She’s trying to make amends with her family,” according to a Holmes family friend.

Tom Cruise is set to play the role of a man who tried to kill Adolf Hitler — but the descendants of the would-be assassin are saying nein to the casting.
United Artists, the studio that Cruise now heads, said to be working on a film about Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a Bavarian aristocrat-turned-colonel who in 1944 planted a bomb under a table in an effort to kill the Fuhrer. The blast killed four members of his inner circle, but Hitler survived, and von Stauffenberg was executed.
But the late officer’s grandson says the family is concerned that the film will be used to promote Cruise’s religion, Scientology.
“I have nothing against (Cruise) and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology,” Count Caspar Schenk von Stauffenberg said, reports the newspaper, The Scotsman. “But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda. Unfortunately, the family Stauffenberg can do nothing about this. My grandfather is a figure from history.”

I hate to believe all the rumors floating around about Katie…but she sure looks 1/2 dead lately. It’s like her spunk is gone or something.

Written by Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander, and directed by Bryan Singer, the as-yet-untitled project is based on an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of the war.
Cruise was initially involved as a producer through his company United Artists (UA), however Bryan Singer decided Cruise would be perfect for the central role, and offered it to Cruise who accepted yesterday (March 20).
“After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film that we had to make,” UA chief executive Paula Wagner said.
“As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer’s involvement and Tom’s admiration for him as a filmmaker, as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production” handbag.com report.
Production is due to begin this summer.
PS: Remember when Tom Cruise used to be hot?
