Timbaland has dominated the music scene for years, working with big names like Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott and Dr. Dre. 

Timbaland sat down with E!’s True Hollywood Story, and opened up about his past, which includes suicidal thoughts and a confession of falling in love with Aaliyah when she was only 12 years old.

“This will be the last time I talk and I’m going back into hibernation,” he says, before making some stunning revelations.

“When I first met Aaliyah—it time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a little secret—I was in love with her. I said, But I’m not…She just a baby, I’m old,” Timbaland says. “I said to myself, ‘I’m just gonna be her brother.’ Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot—a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.”

He, of course, is referring to Aaliyah Dana Haughton, the soulful singer who signed a deal with Jive Records at age 12 and allegedly married R. Kelly at the age of 15, inspiring the song, “Age Ain’t Nothin but a Number.”

Aaliyah then collaborated with Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million. The “Try Again” singer became highly successful in the music biz and started to dip her toes in acting, starring in Queen of the Damned.

Tragically, in August 2001, Aaliyah died in a plane crash. She was just 22.

As if proclaiming your love for a younger woman so many years later wasn’t intense enough, Timbaland’s discussion turns to darker thoughts.

Back in 2003, confesses, Timbaland, “I was almost 400 pounds. Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I’m looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast. And I was saying, ‘That ain’t cool.’ So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.”

But he managed to pull through and is now happily married to his wife, Monique.

“It’s probably hard to be married to me,” he says. “It’s not easy. I’m a musical genius. I’m weird, I do crazy things, it’s not like the average norm. But I’m a loving guy.”

The admission about Aaliyah was prooooooooobably better left unsaid. It’s hard for me to imagine “falling in love” with a 12 year old. It’s harder for me to imagine why anyone would admit it out loud.  And I had completely forgotten that R. Kelly married her when she was only 15!!! He makes Doug Hutchison (who married 16-year-old Courtney Stodden) look like a saint!

Timbaland is making the rounds today trying to undo what mess his family created. TMZ first reported that Timbaland’s mother-in-law called 911 claiming the rapper was a threat to himself. The sheriff sent out a “possible suicide alert” and went out looking for Timbaland. “I don’t know what people are talking about. Why would I commit suicide?” he said.

Needless to say he’s less than pleased with his family. “I snapped,” he told Seacrest. “I was like, ‘Who would report something like that?’”

He admits that he did get in his car and leave – but he says it was simply to clear his head. He said he “took a drive to figure out how I’m going to handle it.”

His wife and mother-in-law say they were worried he had taken medication before driving off.

I would be upset too!

TMZ ran a story earlier this morning that Timbaland was subject of a manhunt yesterday over a possible suicide attempt. This is what happened…

Apparently Timbaland called his brother-in-law, and was reportedly very upset about the theft of a piece of jewelry worth $2 million dollars. He suspected the piece was stolen from someone close to him. He left his home, apparently upset, and family members couldn’t find him – they became really worried and called the Sherrif’s office.

The police were able to locate Timbaland’s Escalade, and they pulled him over. They took him back to his home where they had paramedics evaluate him. Paramedics determined that he wasn’t a threat to himself, and left.

In the final minutes of Ryan Seacrest’s Los Angeles radio show Wednesday, Timbaland called in to set the record straight on a police report listing him as the subject of a “possible suicide attempt.”

On waking up this morning to the news:
“I dont know what happened to be honest with you. I don’t even know what people are talking about.”

On the reported theft of one of his watches by a close friend:
“[The theft] did happen, [but] it wasn’t a watch, it was something else.”

On the police report’s “possible suicide attempt”:
“The only thing that I did was take a drive to figure out how I was going to handle [the theft].”

On why people thought he may have been suicidal:
“I wasn’t talking, so I guess people got worried.”

“I tell people if my mom ain’t calling, or my brother or my best friend, then ain’t nothing to worry about.”
