Will you see this movie?  I’m not a huge Oliver Stone fan, so I may have to wait and see what the critics say…

Thandie Newton turned down Charlie’s Angels role

Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton turned down a role in Charlie’s Angels – because she was worried it would make her too famous.

The Crash star was about to start filming alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore on the 2000 action film – but pulled out when she realized it would catapult her to a higher level of fame.

She was replaced by Ally McBeal star Lucy Liu.

Newton says, “In career terms it was a platinum opportunity. Or, as my agent put it, ‘a one-two punch’. I was going to do it for about 24 hours. But then I woke up and it just didn’t feel right. It would have meant entering that virtual world of stardom, but I’d been away from home for nine months (filming Mission: Impossible II) and it would have meant another six months away.”

And although Newton was pleased with the decision, her agent and manager weren’t – and she soon parted company with them.

She adds, “They were appalled. They thought I was committing career suicide.”

Thandie Newton refused to shoot sex scenes with Gerard Butler while he was sick

Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton forced director Guy Ritchie to fake a sex scene between her and Rocknrolla co-star Gerard Butler – because the Scottish star was suffering from a cold.

On the day the pair was scheduled to leap between the sheets, Butler arrived on set sick – and Newton was so scared of catching his cold, she refused to kiss him.

The actress says, “Gerry was very unwell indeed. So I wouldn’t kiss him. Guy had to improvise. I don’t know how he coped with those problems but it ended up being one of the most brilliant scenes.”

Meanwhile, Ritchie’s wife Madonna tried to cure the sick 300 star with vitamin shots.

He admits his celebrity nurse only served to make him feel worse: “I got a shot from his (Ritchie’s) wife Madonna! I was sick, and she was a nurse basically. Guy introduced me to her and she said, ‘You’re the sick one?’ and I said, ‘Yes’. Well, she was amazing. She just said, ‘Drop your pants’. I stood there with my little bottom out, and she gave me a shot in the bum! It didn’t work at all – I got more sick!. But I appreciated the effort.”

Thandie Newton goes green by buying vintage clothing

Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton has called on style icons to help the environment and urges them to buy secondhand clothing.

The environmentalist star believes in stocking her own wardrobe with recycled and stylish vintage clothes.

She says, “It is grotesque how out of control manufacturing has become, and the excess, the pollution that’s caused by it. Vintage clothing is not only glorious and stylish, it’s also the way forward in terms of recycling. Whenever I go into great vintage stores, I wonder why we ever buy new things.”

Think green. Buy someone else’s used junk. I’m all over it.

Thandie Newton: “Madonna & Guy are having fun!”

Madonna & Guy Ritchie

At a screening of her new movie, Run Fat Boy Run, British beauty Thandie Newton was gushing about working with former Friend turned director David Schwimmer. But everyone really wanted to know what’s going down with Madonna and her director hubby Guy Ritchie.

Thandie recently worked with Guy on the flick Rock and Roller. And she said, “They’re having a good time, as far as I know! I went to their house in the country – it’s lovely. It’s all good! I just saw them the other day – they’re having a great time.”

She continued, “Oh, he’s lovely! He’s a lovely, lovely, lovely man! Awesome – he’s just like – sort of perfect!”

Meanwhile, Thandie knows a thing or two about making a marriage work. She’s been married to her writer husband, Ol Parker, for nearly a decade and the two have two kids together. “He’s essential! They adore him. We love each other a lot and love being together. The key thing is that my kids don’t go to bed until 10 every night. From 7 at night until 10 – that’s when it rocks out in our house! It’s terrible because they’re knackered.”
