Thandie Newton won’t be getting any more Frappucinos!

The actress took to Twitter on Monday to blast Starbucks for a statue depicting a young black boy holding up a basket of coffee beans, which was visible and prominent by the checkout counter.

“Seriously @Starbucks? At the counter – Loin cloth and Safari hat on a black child. Happy New Year circa 19th century,” Newton, 43, captioned the photo of the piece, which was selling Colombia Narino espresso beans.

Obvi, The coffee company responded to Newton on Twitter, almost immediately, saying:

@thandienewton we are very concerned to learn of this incident & we can’t apologise enough. We have removed the figure & are investigating.”

Good move, Starbucks.  Check out the figurine (below) and tell us what YOU think of the controversial statue…

Will you see this movie?  I’m not a huge Oliver Stone fan, so I may have to wait and see what the critics say…

Thandie Newton turned down Charlie’s Angels role

Thandie Newton

Thandie Newton turned down a role in Charlie’s Angels – because she was worried it would make her too famous.

The Crash star was about to start filming alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore on the 2000 action film – but pulled out when she realized it would catapult her to a higher level of fame.

She was replaced by Ally McBeal star Lucy Liu.

Newton says, “In career terms it was a platinum opportunity. Or, as my agent put it, ‘a one-two punch’. I was going to do it for about 24 hours. But then I woke up and it just didn’t feel right. It would have meant entering that virtual world of stardom, but I’d been away from home for nine months (filming Mission: Impossible II) and it would have meant another six months away.”

And although Newton was pleased with the decision, her agent and manager weren’t – and she soon parted company with them.

She adds, “They were appalled. They thought I was committing career suicide.”
