Taylor Schilling Talks Fame, An Unconventional Childhood And “Going Rogue”

Screen Shot 2015-06-25 at 6.53.44 AM

Taylor Schilling might look like a conventional actress, but looks can be deceiving!

The actress opened up to Net-a-Porter’s The EDIT about her unconventional childhood and how it led her to become the “rogue” person she is today. Here’s a taste:

On her parents’ tumultuous divorce: “I think I was just born rogue,” she tells the magazine. “My parents did not have a good relationship. There was no sense of, ‘This is where you belong. This is how you have a friend over for a tea party. This is how you go to a dance.’ It was chaotic. I thought, well, I might as well go off-map.”

On leaving NYU: “I’m not afraid of Chekhov or Shakespeare. But I thought, ‘How much more theory can we talk about?’ I had to spread my wings.”

On her OITNB role: “There are expectations people have of blond-haired, blue-eyed girls, and that’s to be good. That’s how Piper grew up. She was meant to follow the rules: marry a man, have a baby and a business that her mother approves of,” she says. “[But] the center could not hold. And now she’s scrambling to put the pieces back together to find out who she is, and it doesn’t fit in the mold.”

Taylor Schilling talks ‘Orange Is The New Black’ in ‘Allure’

Taylor Schilling talks 'Orange Is The New Black' in 'Allure'

“Orange Is The New Black” actress Taylor Schilling is featured on the cover of the latest issue of “Allure” magazine. Inside, she talks about the liberation she feels about not having to worry about how she looks for filming the hit Netflix show.

“It’s totally liberating,” Schilling tells the mag. “There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play.”

In her day-to-day life, the actress doesn’t stress much about her appearance either. “I don’t feel bound by my face or my body,” the 29-year-old said. “I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world. I feel like there are more parts of me to offer than that.”

The Argo actress admits, however, growing up she wasn’t so easy on herself. “It was tough at home, and it was tough at school,” Schilling said of feeling ugly. “My experience was painful, so painful. There was a period of time I had very short hair, and I had glasses, and I was very tall for my age.”

Taylor Schilling Talks OITNB!

The Weinstein Company & Netflix 2014 Golden Globes After Party

Who’s excited for Season 2 of Orange is the New Black to premiere on June 6th?  I am!  I’m a newcomer to the show- just finishing up a binge watch of Season 1 – but I love it.  It’s smart and funny and well-casted and different.  I’m really enjoying it.  Anywho… Taylor Schilling won a Webby Award for her leading role in the show this past Monday in NYC.  Webby Awards honors excellence on the Internet.

She recently spoke with Glow Magazine about her the hit Netflix series.

Representing a diversity of women is one of Orange Is The New Black’s strengths, Taylor said.

‘Sometimes the entertainment industry denies reality, but the reality is, when you walk down the street there are so many different variations of what it means to be a human being and a woman, and I believe they are all OK,’ she said.

‘The series has made more space for realistic characters on TV that are based on all kinds of real people, as they’re all valuable and worth having their story told.’

And just so you are clear.  Her costar, Laura Prepon is NOT dating Tom Cruise.  Though I’m about ready to see him paired up with someone for some couch jumping fun!

Leonardo DiCaprio took home the award for best actor for his role in ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ and it was deserved! I’m so glad he won!

Michael Fassbender was nominated for his role in ’12 Years a Slave,’ and although he didn’t win, it was still nice to see him!

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

‘Orange is the New Black’ actress Taylor Schilling  wore this emerald green, silk strapless, draped front gown by Thakoon. I think it’s beautiful! Look at the draping around her waist! Gorg!

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I was NOT a fan of Julia Roberts‘ dress last night. It was so unflattering, so…weird. If she would have just worn the black gown without the white shirt part – it would have been so much prettier! If she wanted to cover her arms, there were so many better ways to do it. Not a fan of this look.

From what I’ve read she actually did wear a white shirt – under a black Dolce & Gabbana dress. Why??

Poor Drew Barrymore. She has really unfortunate maternity looks. I haven’t seen her in anything (while pregnant) that I like, and this dress is no exception. Pass.
