Move over, Robert Pattinson, it seems Taylor Lautner is taking over your Twilight spotlight – and your leading lady.
“I love that kid,” Lautner’s New Moon love interest Kristen Stewart, 19, says in Entertainment Weekly’s Fall Movie Preview issue, on newsstands Friday. “I would do anything for him. I would kill for him, literally.”
But the 17-year-old heartthrob – who originated his role as Bella’s bestie Jacob Black – nearly lost his starring shot in the blockbuster franchise’s follow-up, until Stewart stepped in.
“It’s completely understandable why they wanted to make sure he was right,” says Stewart, who with New Moon director Chris Weitz, encouraged Lautner’s casting. “He was so young, 16, so I got it. But I knew he had [to do] it. Just because of how I felt around him. I literally saw Jacob in him.”
To further secure his role, Lautner famously gained more than 30 lbs. for New Moon. “Now I’m a big bad wolf!” he says.

With a new director, a new level of fame for stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and a new set of washboard abs for Taylor Lautner, the second film in the Twilight series, due Nov. 20, promises even more swooning-opportunities for its fans. This week’s double issue of Entertainment Weekly places Stewart and Lautner on the cover, while revealing secrets from the New Moon set inside.
New Moon, a far different beast than Twilight, is steeped in heartbreak, focusing on the recovery Bella (Stewart) undergoes after Edward (Pattinson) breaks her heart and her new feelings for her friend Jacob (Lautner). Pattinson couldn’t be happier with his downsized role: “It was a stress-free job for three months,” says the actor. “All the pressure was on Taylor.”

There were some minicontroversies surrounding the set – director Chris Weitz replaced Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwicke, Lautner had to publicly campaign to keep the role of Jacob, and actress Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for the soon-to-be-shot third film in the series. Lautner ultimately secured the spot thanks in part to Stewart. “It’s completely understandable why they wanted to make sure he was right,” says the actress. “He was so young, 16, so I got it. But I knew he had [to do] it. Just because of how I felt around him.” And how did the Bella-Jacob best-friend chemistry play out on set? “We have that relationship,” she says. “It’s lamely cute.”
Taylor trained hard to bulk up for the role of the budding werewolf. “My body fat got so low that we actually needed to increase it a little bit,” he says. “My trainer would be like, ‘Go have a huge milk shake just so I can get a thousand calories into your body.’”
Stewart thinks the new film will be beefier, too: “[Making Twilight] was much more of a fight,” she says. “We needed to make something commercial but stay true to the book. We didn’t have enough money. It was all very impulsive, and that’s what I love about that movie…But I think New Moon is gonna be even better.”

The vampire drama Twilight drove a stake through the 11th annual Teen Choice 2009 awards on Sunday, winning 11 trophies in a ceremony also notable for its celebration of musical acts new and not-so-new.
Audience members thirsting for a glimpse of the Twilight stars were not disappointed, as the film won best drama as well as acting awards for leads Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and supporting stars Cam Gigandet, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner.
Pattinson was also named Choice Male Hottie. “I really appreciate it. I have to say, the hottest teens of the year are Twilight fans!” he told the crowd during the taped event, which airs Monday night on FOX. Choice Female Hottie went to Megan Fox, star of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Music largely dominated the proceedings otherwise. The Jonas Brothers hosted the show and won five of the surfboard-shaped awards, including breakout show (Jonas). And Miley Cyrus won six, including best single (”The Climb”) and acting awards for the TV and movie versions of Hannah Montana.

A film with a cast already overflowing with talent saw cameos by stars Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift on July 30, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Both tween idols enjoyed each other’s company on set, flirting and laughing until director Gary Marshall interrupted them. The newly added actors are playing athletes for the fictional Henderson High School track and field team and Lautner took the opportunity to flaunt his athletic prowess and well-built frame, sprinting, jumping hurdles and doing the high jump while the less sports-inclined Swift did some mild stretching.

Kristen Stewart is itching to get her baby bump on—as her Twilight heroine Bella, of course!
During today’s New Moon panel discussion at Comic-Con, K.Stew was asked which aspect of the upcoming films she was most looking forward to. “Uh, I can’t wait to get pregnant,” she said, giggling.
In on the joke, costar Robert Pattinson added, “I can’t wait to perform the cesarean!” The screeching 6,000-person crowd, of course, caught the reference to the gruesome birth that takes place in Breaking Dawn—which is still three movies away!
But the panel wasn’t all about vampire spawn. Costar/werewolf Taylor Lautner, director Chris Weitz and Ashley Greene joined the fun, too, as lots of New Moon footage hit the screen. And R.Pattz admitted to being a “p*ssy.”
