Welp, that didn’t take long. As we JUST reportedly, Susan Sarandon called Pope Benedict a “Nazi,” twice” during an interview at the Hamptons Film Festival, and not the largest Catholic civil right organization has commented on Susan’s words, calling the actress obscene.

TMZ spoke with Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League, who told us, “Susan Sarandon’s quip about Pope Benedict XVI being a ‘Nazi’ bespeaks unparalleled ignorance.”

Donohue adds, “Joseph Ratzinger (the pope) was conscripted into the Nazi Youth the way every other 14-year-old German boy was at the time. Unlike most others, he not only refused to go to the compulsory meetings — he actually deserted the Hitler Youth! Which is precisely why Jews today regard him as a friend, not as an enemy.”

“In short, what Sarandon said is positively obscene.”

We all should be expecting Susan Sarandon to be issuing an apology soon, seeing as how during an interview at the Hamptons Film Festival, the actress called Pope Benedict XVI a “Nazi”…twice.

During an interview at the Hamptons Film Festival, Sarandon was talking about sending the pope a copy of the book, “Dead Man Walking,” when she clarified …. “The last one [Pope John Paul II], not this Nazi one we have now.”

When interviewer Bob Balaban expressed disapproval, Sarandon reportedly said the Nazi comment AGAIN — drawing laughter from the audience.

The Pope’s PR people acknowledged that Benedict WAS a member of the Hitler Youth as a boy, a requirement at the time for German boys his age — but the rep insists he had no “active participation” in the group.

Are things getting hot and heavy for Susan Sarandon and her 31-year-old ping-pong aficionado boy toy, Jonathan Bricklin? Susan brought Jon to Italy with her for the Giffoni Film festival in Ravello, Italy.

Splitting from her longtime partner, Tim Robbins, three months ago has left Susan Sarandon with some mixed – but hopeful – feelings.

“I did a movie a long time ago where I had to fly in a glider,” the Oscar-winner, 63, tells Entertainment Weekly in its new issue. “You get towed up in the air by a plane, and it’s loud and annoying. And at some point you pull the cord and you’re suddenly floating, and in your mind it makes absolutely no sense. But it’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. That’s where I am now.”

But Sarandon, who called it quits with Robbins in December, hasn’t let that fear change her outlook on courtship – or love.

“It’s a long time to not be dating and then go back into it,” she says, while also remaining tight-lipped about a rumored romance with Jonathan Bricklin, 31, a partner in her New York ping-pong club, SPiN.

“I certainly love the idea of being in love, and I love the idea of companionship,” she adds. “Whatever happens next in terms of romance and partners, I don’t know.”

The actress, who told People in March that the secret to staying young was being happy, seems to have found another mantra to live by.

“I think the point is just keep moving,” she tells EW, “and to just say yes to life.”

Two weeks after announcing her split from longtime partner Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon is not slowing down: In fact, the 63-year-old single star has been spotted out at several New York City nightspots.

One of Sarandon’s favorite hotspots is SPiN, the ping-pong club where she’s an investor. On Tuesday night, she strolled into the place just before 8:00 p.m., wearing a slouchy black newsboy cap and sneakers to chat with one of her partners at the lounge, Jonathan Bricklin, and a few friends. Rumors have swirled of a romance between Sarandon and 32-year-old Bricklin, but reps for both have denied it. Still, Sarandon seems to be enjoying the single life.

Hanging out with Younger Guys
Sarandon spends a lot of evenings hanging out at her club SPiN with the young crowd that frequents the place – including Bricklin. On Tuesday, she popped in for just 20 minutes before she was out the door – perhaps to check out another late night hotspot.

Staying Out Late
On Dec. 28, Sarandon was spotted at Manhattan’s Creperie, a tiny crepe joint in the West Village. The same night, she and Bricklin, checked out Mermaid Oyster Bar, a casual seafood restaurant just down the street. The kitchen was closed – so they just had drinks. “He drank two Jamesons and she had tequila,” says a source. They left at around 1:30 am.

Flirting with Dave Letterman
On Dec. 22 – one day before announcing her split from Robbins – Sarandon appeared on The Late Show with Dave Letterman to promote her upcoming role in The Lovely Bones. She chatted about her two Pomeranians and learning to pole dance with her daughter, Eva, who learned the skill for a guest spot on Californication – and Sarandon showed off a new tattoo around her wrist.

With her late night prowling, maybe 63 really is the new 30.

Susan Sarandon is moving on.

The newly single actress, 63, was seen looking “quite happy” in the company of a “younger-looking fellow” around 2 a.m. Monday, New York’s Daily News reports.

“They shared a crepe with Nutella and whipped cream,” an eyewitness says of Sarandon’s late night bite at the Creperie in Manhattan’s West Village. “[They] stayed and chatted for a while.”

On Dec. 23, Sarandon’s rep confirmed to UsMagazine.com that, over the summer, the actress had split from actor Tim Robbins after 23 years together.

Sarandon and Robbins, 51, have two sons: Jack Henry, 20, and Miles Guthrie, 17. (Sarandon has a daughter Eva Amurri, 24, from a previous relationship with Italian director Franco Amurri.)

In 2004, Sarandon said of her partnership with Robbins, “We fight strongly but fairly. I can’t say that it is always comfortable, but he is my really good friend.”
