Steve Carell to stay at The Office

Steve Carell

Steve Carell has denied rumors he will leave The Office to concentrate on his burgeoning movie career.

The former postman starred in the first three series of the Emmy Award-winning comedy and has since landed roles in big budget films including 2007’s Evan Almighty and this year’s Get Smart.

The funnyman had been dogged by rumours he is set to leave the programme to take on more high profile lead roles.

But he insists that he is definitely going to stick with The Office for the foreseeable future.

He says, “All of the main cast are signed for three more (seasons). Beyond that, I have no idea.”

Steve Carell was the world’s worst postman

Steve Carell

Steve Carell was the world’s worst postman before finding fame as an actor.

The 45-year-old actor started out delivering mail in his native Massachusetts, but confesses he let down the homeowners on his route.

He says, “I was a terrible mail person. I moved to Chicago months later and found mail from three or four months before underneath my seat. So it took me a while to finally get the mail in the right hands.”

Did Anne Hathaway give Steve Carell pink eye?

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway sparked a conjunctivitis scare on the set of new film Get Smart after realizing she was suffering from pinkeye during a snotty kissing scene with co-star Steve Carell.

The actress just thought she had a slight cold and didn’t realize that the germs she was passing on during a pivotal romance scene was actually a nasty eye infection.

She recalls, “There was a health scare last year where a certain contact lens solution gave you conjunctivitis.”

“I won’t say the name of it, but it was the one that I used, and I had a sinus infection at the same time. I had to go up to Steve with my red and puffy eyes, dripping green; I am just snotty and I’m just like, ‘Come here.’ The worst thing was we didn’t know that I had conjunctivitis at the time so I had to call our producer that night and say, ‘Yeah, you might want to call Steve and let him know I had pinkeye and my tears kind of got in my mouth when we kissed, so he might want to worry about that!’”

But despite the snotty kiss, Hathaway was thrilled to get the chance to make out with one of her favorite funnymen.

She adds, “Making out with him is like the yummiest lollipop, dipped in sunshine and wrapped in a masculine wrapper! That’s the only way I can think to describe it.”

Steve Carell is not picky about roles

Steve Carell

Steve Carell jumps at the chance to appear in any film he is offered, good or bad – because he’s always astounded to even be considered.

The 45-year-old has starred in a host of embarrassing movies and film flops, including 2005’s Bewitched. But he doesn’t care – he’s just happy to be working.

Carell says, “Someone offers me a part in a film and I take it. Clearly there’s been no rhyme or reason or anything. Am I getting paid? Absolutely. I’m always astounded to be offered any sort of role so I’m like, ‘All right, I’m going to play a rapist? Cool. I always wanted to play a rapist.’ So there hasn’t been a career path in that sense; it’s just kind of been the luck of the draw.”
