Spencer Pratt proving that yes, we’re right. He’s an idiot.

Spencer Pratt acknowledges that his marriage to Heidi Montag was fake — but only because he was uninformed. “I didn’t even know you have to legalize a wedding,” claims Spencer, who tied the knot with Heidi, 22, in a nonbinding ceremony on November 19 in Mexico. “I thought growing up, you say ‘I do’ and you’re married.”

And Heidi agrees. “We had our elopement, and to me, that counts,” she said at Christian Audigier nightclub in Las Vegas on December 31, but she adds that they are now planning to make it official. “We’re going to have a bigger wedding for friends and family.” And it will be a major production. “We’ll definitely have it on TV because of the fans and haters,” vows Spencer.

Spencer Had Visions Of Heidi’s Mom “Killing Me in my Sleep”

spl69531_001.jpgDespite having eloped in a secret ceremony in Mexico last month, Spencer Pratt refused to make his marriage to Heidi Montag official during Monday night’s season finale of the The Hills.

“I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years,” Pratt said at the Beverly Hills Courthouse.

Why the sudden change of heart?

“I just had visions of her mom trying to kill me in my sleep so I saw that as a possibility,” Pratt told Usmagazine.com at The Hills Season Finale Party at Tavern on the Green in NYC on Monday.

After the elopement, Montag’s mom Darlene Egelhoff opened up to Us Weekly about her “devastation” over her perceived loss of her daughter to Pratt – whom, she said, may have even drugged Montag before their surprise Mexico elopement.

While it’s not a match made in heaven, “we’re on a better path,” Pratt told Us of his relationship with Egelhoff.

And Montag remains equally optimistic that her family will grow to love Pratt now that they’ll be included in the nuptials.

“I think they are much happier,” she told Us. “Things will settle down a bit.”

Meanwhile, it seems Egelhoff has been getting used to the idea of Pratt.

“Over Thanksgiving my mom made a gingerbread house that said Pratt’s on the door and had Heidi and Spencer’s Pictures,” Montag’s sister Holly told Us. “It was adorable.”

But, joked Pratt, “I was afraid her mom poisoned it!”

Spencer and Heidi are not married, confirm whole thing is publicity stunt!

spl69481_035.jpg

So annoying, and totally predictable!

In the final minutes of The Hills season finale, Spencer Pratt nixed his plan to legalize his Mexican wedding to Heidi Montag – at least for now.

After eloping in a Mexican ceremony on November 19, Heidi and Spencer both vowed to make their union legal stateside. Pratt told Ryan Seacrest recently they had done just that by marrying again in a Beverly Hills courthouse. Pratt said to Seacrest on his radio show: “We checked the confidentially box, so good luck [finding our marriage license] people!”

The Associated Press questioned the legality because the judge shown in the trailer doesn’t sit on the bench at the Los Angeles Superior Court, and civil wedding ceremonies are usually performed in chambers instead of courtrooms. At the time, a MTV spokesperson told Usmagazine.com in a statement: “MTV crews captured Heidi and Spencer at the Beverly Hills Courthouse with the Deputy Commissioner who handles all civil unions. We filmed after hours at the request of the courthouse so our cameras would not inconvenience other couples getting married that day.”

But in the end, it was their families that convinced Spencer not to follow through with the quickie courthouse ceremony. During the finale, Heidi’s mom, Darlene, told Spencer, “I know you manipulated and plotted this whole wedding. It’s too fast, too much. You know she had dreams of a bigger wedding. I can’t let you go to the courthouse and make this wedding legal.” Last month, Darlene Egelhoff told Us Weekly that she didn’t trust Spencer. “He’s manipulative and seems to have power over Heidi. I would like to see a blood test from Mexico. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had her drugged.” Pratt responded on Seacrest’s radio show, “I am sure she is just hurt and reacting crazy because she wasn’t there.”

Spencer’s sister, Stephanie also had a strong opinion about the civil ceremony, telling him, “”You can’t do this. She’s going to regret this. I think this is wrong.”

Finally, in front of Deputy Commissioner, Donna Jones, Heidi proclaims, “I, Heidi, take thee Spencer to be my lawfully wedded husband for better or for worse for as long as we both shall live.” After a tense few seconds, Spencer pauses, and tells Montag, “I feel like we’re doing something sneaky and shady.” As Montag begins to cry, she says, “Of course I want my mom here.” Pratt responds, “I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years. I’ll deal with it It’s worth it to be with you the rest of my life. We’ll do it the way you want, I’m sorry, I love you so much.”

On the Hills after-show, Pratt and Montag appeared live in studio for the first time. Said Pratt: “Things are better since we didn’t legalize the wedding. Now I can live throughout 2009. They didn’t show the look of death in her [mom's] eyes on the episode!” Added Montag: “I want cakes and bridesmaids, two of them are standing right here,” referring to Holly Montag and Stephanie Pratt.

Speidi spawn coming soon!

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt believe their marriage will last for eternity.

“Forever and ever and ever!” Montag gushed on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show on Monday.

In fact, the newlyweds, who eloped in Mexico on Nov. 19, already have babies on the brain.

“A little birdie told me you were tryin’ [for kids],” Seacrest said.

“We definitely need a kid ASAP,” Pratt confirmed.

But Montag has a different plan. “I don’t want kids for a long time. You’ve got to keep your youth, your body for as long as you can. I feel like when I’m 30, we will,” the Hills star told Us Weekly after their elopement.

Montag and Pratt’s eloping shocked many, including her mother, Darlene Egelhoff, who told Us Weekly that Spencer may have drugged her daughter to get her to marry him. But Montag believes her mother has since seen the light.

“She loves Spencer and she always says she’s never seen anyone treat someone as well as Spencer treats me,” Montag said. “I think moms are just shocked at first because all moms would be, but she’s really come around.”

Still, Egelhoff won’t be spending the holidays with her new son-in-law.

“I don’t think so, because I’ll only have one day to go home,” Montag explained. “We’re going to New York and Vegas and then back to New York and Chicago. I’d have to fly home for one day and I don’t know if I can be in all those places at once.

Meanwhile, in Monday’s season finale of MTV’s The Hills, Montag makes amends with her one-time BFF, Lauren Conrad.

“You’ve got to stay tuned for tonight, but I think Lauren and I both have had a lot that’s happened in our lives and we’re older now,” Montag said. “For me personally, I’ve missed her. That was my best friend and it’s hard when that’s taken out of your life. I think for both of us we just wanted some kind of closure in one way or another. It was really really good to see her. It was definitely one of my best moments of the season.”

Will Spencer want back in the “Bromance”?

brody_and_spencer.jpg

Best friends Brody Jenner and Spencer Pratt had a falling out on The Hills, but Brody, 25, says the door is still open for Spencer to appear on his new MTV reality show, Bromance, premiering Dec. 29, when Brody begins his search for a new buddy. “I love Spencer,” he tells Life & Style. “Trust was broken, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.” Brody’s Bromance cohort, Frankie Delgado, says that if Spencer, 25, wants back in, he’s going to have to work for it. “He’ll have to compete,” Frankie says. “We’re going to have to put him through some tests!”
