American Idol judge Simon Cowell has lashed out at the latest batch of contestants on the smash hit talent show – insisting the are devoid of the “personality” needed to become superstars.

The music mogul claims the wannabe singers battling it out in the show’s seventh series – currently airing on the Fox network – are not taking enough risks with their comments or song choices.

And the outspoken Brit has warned the contestants not to consider imitating their own idols, as they will be booted off the show for not offering original performances.

He says, “They are giving very safe answers to questions, making safe song selections. We are not getting a sense of who they are. We have to try to pull it out of them more. You cannot deliver an uninspired performance at the top of the show. And you can’t be up there imitating another singer.”

British music mogul Simon Cowell has denied he has split from his model girlfriend Terri Seymour.

The American Idol judge was reported to have broken off his five-year romance with the 33-year-old beauty amid claims the star’s heavy work load had put a strain on the relationship.

The couple was also at the center of rumors that Cowell’s refusal to settle down and start a family had caused a rift between the pair. But Cowell’s representative Max Clifford insists their relationship is still going strong.

He says, “I’ve spoken to Simon about this and he and Terri are absolutely fine. They’re as happy as they’ve always been.”

The British judge whose known for his bitter tongue decided to take part in Oprah’s Big Give program in a big way–by paying off the mortgage of a couple who are struggling with their daughter’s debilitating cancer.

Amy and Randy must travel more than 100 miles from their home each day so that their daughter Madeline can receieve treatments.

In order to lessen the burden on the family, Simon decided to pay off the family’s $162,000 mortgage.

“I never knew that doing good could feel so good,” said Simon.

The Grammy-winning singer/choreographer admits she subconsciously fancies the British star – dubbed TV’s Mr Nasty – even though she finds his sharp-tongued comments hard to take. The 44-year-old says, “Just when you think we’re all getting on, Simon turns and we get back into our little quarrels. I suppose it’s quite funny to watch, but he’s so infuriating.”

“Maybe ( I fancy Cowell). Subconsciously. In a really weird, Freudian way. We have a good work balance. We’ve all had moments where we’ve walked off because of Simon, but he’s even walked off because of himself.”

Music mogul Simon Cowell is set to make a film about a British cellphone salesman who shot to fame after winning TV talent show Britain’s Got Talent. The tale of singer Paul Potts’ rise will be brought to the big screen by his musical mentor Cowell, who has agreed a deal with Paramount.

The forthcoming movie has been dubbed the new Billy Elliot by Cowell, who will act as producer. Film giant Paramount reportedly agreed to finance the project after seeing Potts’ performances on YouTube following his win on the talent show in 2007. And Cowell is delighted the studio has given the movie the green light.

He says, “Most of these calls result in absolutely nothing, but this company got that it’s another Billy Elliot, a story anyone in the world can understand.” Potts’ album One More Chance has sold over three million copies, and has been released in 15 countries.

Acid tongued music mogul Simon Cowell has slammed Sunday night’s Academy Awards, because he says, “The Oscars reek of snobbery.”

The American Idol judge believes the ceremony – which exclusively rewards work on movies – looks down on TV series and television stars; and Cowell even claims he’s viewed as “evil” in Hollywood circles.

He says, “They think I’m the antichrist. They don’t like us TV people to be part of it – it’s ridiculous. It reeks of snobbery.” And Cowell insists he wouldn’t want to attend the star-studded event because he hates Tinseltown. He adds, “I have nothing to do with the Oscars – and nor do I want to. I’ll only go if someone has invited me. “I hate the whole movie industry. It’s so stuck up I can’t bear it.”
