Transformers director Michael Bay is confident actor Shia LaBeouf will be cleared of his drink driving charge following his car crash last weekend.

The 22-year-old was arrested and charged with DUI after his truck flipped across a road and collided with another vehicle in Hollywood on Sunday.

LaBeouf suffered serious injuries to his hand and is facing misdemeanour drink driving charges, but investigators have ruled the other driver caused the accident by running a red light.

However, Bay is adamant LaBeouf was not over the limit when he was arrested, because so much time had passed between the actor consuming alcohol and being involved in the crash.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, due to be aired on Friday, Bay says, “He was not drunk. He was drinking hours and hours before.”

And the filmmaker has further defended LaBeouf, insisting he has shown a lot of growth since they worked on the first Transformers movie, which was released in 2007.

He adds: “The kid really has his head together. He’s doing a great job on this movie. He’s really matured since the last one and I love working with him.”

Shia LaBeouf’s car crash is causing chaos on the set of his new movie Transformers 2, according to reports.

The actor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his truck flipped across a road and collided with another vehicle in Hollywood on Sunday.

He injured his hand in the smash and was treated at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. His publicist insists he will be back on the movie’s set within a month.

While Transformers 2 insiders insist LaBeouf’s injury hasn’t disrupted shooting, separate sources tell industry publication Daily Variety at least two days of filming have been lost. Scenes have also had to be rescheduled to accommodate the star’s absence.

Director Michael Bay has refused to comment.

A person on eBay who lives close to the scene where Shia LaBeouf flipped his truck, is selling the broken glass and remains from the accident.

I just happen to live a few blocks from the crash site and collected some leftover souvenirs… broken glass and some plastic pieces from Shia’s truck. (some of the pieces can be from the car he hit but his truck flipped and definitely suffered more damage) The debris was collected afterwards and was in the public domain on the street. a.k.a. it’s legal.

Shia LaBeouf has been urged to install an anti-drunk driving device in his car, following his DUI arrest at the weekend.

The 22-year-old Transformers star was charged with driving under the influence after his truck collided with another vehicle and flipped across a road in Hollywood on Sunday.

He is due in court next month to face a misdemeanor DUI charge – but Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) are already calling on the actor to agree to fit ignition interlock devices in all his vehicles.

The contraption prevents a car from starting until the driver has passed a sobriety breath test.

A M.A.D.D. spokesperson says, “We hope Mr. LaBeouf will voluntarily use the opportunity of his DUI arrest to educate his fans – and the country – about this life-saving device by installing the device on his vehicles.”

Four states – Washington, Nebraska, Alaska and Colorado – currently force convicted drink drivers to install the devices in their vehicles.

Reality star Khloe Kardashian – who served 173 minutes in jail last week for a 2007 DUI charge – has some advice for actor Shia LaBeouf, who was arrested for DUI after getting into a car accident on Sunday.

“Just be smarter,” she told Usmagazine.com at the Annual Style L.A. Runway show benefitting the Facial Paralysis Foundation & Stop the Violence/Face the Music benefit, which she co-hosted with sisters Kim and Kourtney at the The Viceroy Hotel, Santa Monica, CA on Monday.

“Think about your actions and get a driver!” the 24-year-old counseled. “It’s so much cheaper in the long run!”

LaBeouf, 22, was arrested early Sunday morning following a night of boozing at West Hollywood’s Troubadour club. His 23-year-old Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas was a passenger in his truck when the accident occurred. LaBeouf required extensive hand surgery but police determined he was not at fault for the accident.

Khloe’s jail stint was short but dramatic.

“As soon as I got to Lynwood, there were three bomb threats, and so they put me in solitary confinement,” she told Ryan Seacrest on Monday. “They released me early because I was a threat to the prison.”

She pledged to “never” drink and drive again.

A new twist in the Shia LaBeouf story! Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore tells ET the other driver involved in the accident blew a red light and Shia did not cause the accident.

The other party will be cited in the accident, which occurred early Sunday in Hollywood, the Sheriff’s spokesman said. Shia was arrested after the crash on suspicion of drunk driving.

Before his weekend DUI arrest, Shia LaBeouf opened up about his struggles with alcohol in Details’ September issue (out August 12).

The most shocking revelation: LaBeouf, 22, and his father, a former heroin addict, “would drink together and smoke together,” the actor told the magazine, “and it’s just a bad deal.

“It’s not something that is conducive to being a role model — no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that,” LaBeouf added. “And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink.”

He also opened up about a drunken spat he had in a Chicago Walgreens last November. (He was charged with criminal trespassing; it was later dropped.)

“It was two hotheads,” LaBeouf said of the incident. “One completely in the wrong, one who wasn’t enjoying his job that night, going at it about minuscule bulls–t.”

The Details interview surfaces days after the actor’s DUI arrest early Sunday morning following a night of boozing at West Hollywood’s Troubadour club.

LaBeouf’s 23-year-old Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas was a passenger in his truck when the accident occurred, sources tell Usmagazine.com.

She was not seriously injured, but LaBeouf’s rep said the the actor is “currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month.”

LaBeouf’s mom told Us Monday: “He is doing really well.”
