Shane Sparks, a hip-hop choreographer who was a judge on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” has been ordered to trial on eight sex counts involving an underage girl in the 1990s.
A Superior Court judge ruled after a preliminary hearing Monday that there was enough evidence for 41-year-old Melvin Shane Sparks to stand trial on six counts of lewd acts on a child and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16. He is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 15 at the Van Nuys courthouse.
The alleged crimes took place over a nearly three-year period ending in April 1997.
Sparks was arrested Dec. 18 at his Studio City home and he was released on $590,000 bail. Defense attorney Steve Meister says his client is innocent.

Shane Sparks — a judge on the MTV show “America’s Best Dance Crew” — has been arrested and charged with 9 counts of child molestation.
The LAPD took Sparks into custody at 8AM PT this morning on a felony warrant charging him with molestation.
The alleged incidents began occurring in 1994. According to the criminal complaint Shane allegedly committed the crimes of lewd acts upon a child — all felonies.
The criminal complaint — filed by the L.A. County District Attorney’s office — lists 9 incidents of alleged molestation with an underage girl.
The lewd acts include oral copulation and other acts “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the defendant, who was at least 10 years older than [the victim].”
Born in 1974 (according to wikipedia), Shane was 20 years old in 1994. That means the girl he molested was 10 years old or younger. That is absolutely disgusting.
UPDATE: The papers filed claim Shane was born in 1969 – which means at 25 years old, the girl was 15 or younger. Either way, it’s still awful.
Sparks — who was also a choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance” — is being held on $590,000 bail.
Sparks is the second person from “So You Think You Can Dance” who’s been in trouble with the law — earlier this year his co-star Alex Da Silva was charged with rape.
