Scarlett Johansson: Marrying Ryan Reynolds was “the best thing I ever did”

Scarlett Johansson, 27,  has nothing but nice things to say about her ex-husband Ryan Reynolds. In fact, the actress told Cosmopolitan that marrying Ryan was “the best thing I ever did.”

“I’m a big believer that when something feels right, you should do it,” she told the magazine. “I’m a big believer in instinct. Getting married was the right thing to do because it was natural. It grew out of a romance and love and a desire to have a future with somebody, and I was very fortunate that I married somebody who turned out to be the person I thought he would be.”

The Avengers star told the magazine she does miss “having a partner and a confidant.”

“Relationships are complicated,” she mused. “Being married is a living, breathing process. I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and the valleys. I wasn’t prepared to hunker down and do the work… Both of us were extremely busy. We spent so much time apart. It’s very difficult.”

Scarlett’s five-month romance with Sean Penn, 51, ended back in June, and she’s currently single. Her ex, however, has moved on – and is currently dating Blake Lively.

Scarlett Johansson’s strange Cosmopolitan cover!

Is it just me – or does this Scarlett Johansson Cosmo cover look totally strange? Is that really her body? I know Cosmo airbrushes the hell out of all their covers – but this doesn’t even look like her body! I know that’s her tattoo – but the rest doesn’t look right! I call upon Cosmo to release 1 REAL cover! Just try it – once! I hate the airbrush look. It doesn’t give me the urge to buy the magazine. I’ll take a “real” cover anyday over this garbage.

Anyway – here is Scarlett Johansson on the cover of another magazine! This time it’s Cosmo. (See her “boyish” Interview cover here!)

Cosmo hasn’t released the interview yet, but here’s a snippet.

“I’m attracted to the quality of being adventurous and perhaps a bit mischievous and also questioning authority and being proactive. If that makes up a quintessential bad boy, then whatever. I’m not at all attracted to meanness or bullying, but I do think conviction is attractive. I mean, really, who doesn’t?” – Scarlett Johansson in the January issue of Cosmo

Meh.

Scarlett Johansson goes topless for Interview Magazine!

Scarlett Johansson is all over the place right now, promoting her upcoming movie, ‘We Bought a Zoo’. The film, which was directed by Cameron Crowe, an costars Matt Damon comes out around Christmas. I just finished up reading her article in Vanity Fair, which, to be honest wasn’t interesting at all. Looks like this interview may have dug a bit deeper. The interview was conducted by Arianna Huffington, and delves into more serious topics.

On Being Politically Active: “I’m already planning what I’m going to wear to the next White House Correspondents’ dinner. Next time I go I’m going to find Anderson Cooper’s table and camp out there. My brother was totally geeked-out by Katie Couric. I think he followed her around the entire night. I was chasing after him, and I turned around, and I had a bunch of Republican senators chasing after me. [laughs] But honestly I think it’s the best party in town. I’d rather go to the White House Correspondents’ dinner than any awards show.”

On Balancing Fame & Privacy: “I don’t really profess to know how to balance any of it. I don’t profess to know how to balance the positive and the negative media attention. It’s a gamble every time you put yourself out there, and, certainly, I’m always readjusting to it. But I hope it never becomes normal to feel scrutinized. I value my privacy and my personal life-and I certainly don’t exploit my personal life. But that’s not always in your control. There are, unfortunately, people who are interested in prying. You know, my favorite actors are actors who are enigmatic and mysterious and never make the obvious choice in terms of the projects they do or who they work with or their craft. But I think that the less I know about an actor, the more chance I have of allowing their own persona to kind of slip away so I can get completely lost in the character they’re playing, and the more that people think they know about your personal life, the more difficult it becomes to preserve that. So when I’m not working or promoting something, I try to be as under-the-radar as I can. This has just been a bit of a crazy year.”

On Avoiding Twitter “Personally, I don’t feel the need to brand myself in that way. But as a means to share information and raise awareness of things, I think these social-networking platforms are unprecedented. They’re amazing tools to communicate information-especially about different causes or crises or movements. That said, I don’t have a Facebook or a Twitter account, and I don’t know how I feel about this idea of, ‘Now, I’m eating dinner, and I want everyone to know that I’m having dinner at this time’ or ‘I just mailed a letter and dropped off my kids.’ That, to me, is a very strange phenomenon. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than have to continuously share details of my everyday life. I’m always surprised that certain actors have Twitter accounts.”

On Her Work In Somalia & Kenya: Well, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel with Oxfam several times, and they’re always so well organized, so it was a good way to show the kind of work they’re doing. You read statistics all the time like, “13 million people are at risk because of the severe drought in East Africa,” but I think those kinds of numbers fall on deaf ears-there’s so much devastation in the world, that it’s a bit overwhelming for people. But by seeing a first-hand account of something like the effects of the drought in the Horn of Africa, you can have a different relationship with the story. It’s one of the blessings that come with new media. I’m hoping to go to Ethiopia in February and do a similar kind of project there because it’s an ongoing crisis, so I think it’s important to keep some focus there right now.

“It’s seemingly a whole other world. But in actuality, you’re standing next to somebody, looking them in the eye, and what you realize is that there is a human connectivity that exists between people no matter the cultural difference. You don’t even have to go that far. There are people in America who are absolutely desperate right now, who have no means to support their families, who have no opportunities to better themselves or their education-and they’re not that different from the farmers and working-class people that I visited when I went to Kenya with Oxfam. Whether they’re in America or in Africa, people want to work. They want to have purpose. They want to provide for themselves and their families. They don’t want handouts. They don’t want to be completely dependent on their governments-even though there’s usually no opportunity for that anyway. But they want to be self-sufficient and have a sustainable lifestyle. You know, I just finished this movie, The Avengers, in September, and we shot in places like Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in Cleveland, and around Ohio. We shot in a town called Wilmington in Ohio. It’s a lovely town, and the people there were really generous and welcomed us with open arms, but I’m sure part of that was probably that this film was an opportunity for commerce that they haven’t had for a long time. So these problems sometimes seem so impossibly large that it’s hard not to be pessimistic.”

Full interview can be read here.

What do you think of this photoshoot? Some sites are saying she looks boyish – but I think she looks beautiful.

Scarlett Johansson reveals who her naked photos were intended for in the new Vanity Fair!

Scarlett Johansson is Vanity Fair’s December cover girl. In the interview, Scarlett defends her naked photos (which were eventually leaked) saying they were intended for her then-husband, Ryan Reynolds. She says “It’s not like I was shooting a porno!”

In the interview, Scarlett also opens up about her relationship with Woody Allen and her divorce.

Scarlett Johansson does not seem the least bit ashamed when discussing her recent nude-photo scandal with Vanity Fair contributing editor Peter Biskind.

“I know my best angles,” she says with her trademark insouciance. “They were sent to my husband,” now ex Ryan Reynolds. “There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno.” She adds saucily, “Although there’s nothing wrong with that either.”

Johansson, who has been active in campaigning for various Democratic political leaders, including Barack Obama, tells Biskind that nearly one term later “we’re all guilty of being idealistic, I and everyone who voted for him.” But in response to being asked if she would work for him again, she says, “It would be irresponsible not to.”

She also discusses her friendship with Woody Allen, spawned by their shared tendency toward hypochondria and, subsequently, shared Purell.

“He shakes a lot of hands,” Johansson explains. “I’ll squirt some in my hand and then squirt in his.” She also has a bizarre penchant for diagnosing him. “The only reason why Woody and I are still friends is because I’ve diagnosed all kinds of his skin tags, lesions, ailments. I’ve prescribed things for Woody that he’s then asked his doctor to prescribe for him.”

Despite their compatibility, after working with Johansson on several films, Allen decided they should take a break: “I have every intention of working with her again, but I just didn’t think it was a great idea for either one of us to work together too intensely, picture after picture. I didn’t want her to be burdened by, ‘Oh, she’s in all the Woody Allen pictures, it’s so predictable,’ and she’s my new muse, and all that silliness.” Johansson does not share his opinion: “I don’t think anything’s played out. I’m waiting for him to write my Citizen Kane.”

Johansson says that her role in a revival of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge in 2009 opposite Liev Schreiber “completely took me over in every way. I’d spent four months bleeding all over the stage, completely exposed. I felt I was forever changed by that experience. It was unbelievable holding that Tony.”

Her emotional and physical exhaustion after the end of the run was compounded by her subsequent divorce from Reynolds. “I didn’t really know what to do with myself. It was such a strange time. There was nothing that was interesting to me. I had a very public separation. It was difficult. I felt very uncomfortable.”

I think the pictures are beautiful. Can’t wait to get more when the magazine comes out!

New Couple Alert: Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes out with Scarlett Johansson

ScarJo is at it again. After her marriage breakup with Ryan Reynolds in December 2010, the starlet has been linked to a series of men from Justin Timberlake to Kieran Culkin (Macaulay’s younger bro) to Sean Penn and now she’s been caught swapping saliva with 50/50 star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Scars and Jo were first seen dining together and “discussing a project for a while” at Hundred Acres restaurant in New York’s SoHo area in late July. Sparks obviously flew and the two were most recently spotted inspecting each other’s tonsils in New York City last month.

“They were kissing and very hands on,” reveals a witness. “They were very lovey and didn’t try to hide it. They were infatuated with each other.”

While friends of the duo are insisting there is nothing at all going on, I’m going to beg to differ. Keep your eyes peeled for this hot new romance.

PICS: Scarlett Johansson begins filming movie in which she plays an alien!

Scarlett Johansson is back to work this morning, on the set of her new sci-fi film, ‘Under the Skin’. According to FilmNation, “Johansson plays an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey — her voracious sexuality.”

An alien sexual predator?

But, wait, there’s more. “She is deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind. Taking her point of view throughout, the film presents a unique look at our world through alien eyes.”

Glazer co-wrote the script with Walter Campbell and is eying a production late spring 2011.

In a statement, FilmNation CEO Glen Basner said, “We’re so very excited to be working on this arrestingly original movie. How could we pass up the chance to work with a visionary director like Jonathan, especially when combined with the intriguing notion of Scarlett Johansson as a ruthless alien seductress?”

Sounds interesting?
