Pete Wentz was lying when he told fans he and new bride Ashlee Simpson were honeymooning in their basement earlier this week – the couple was actually holidaying in the Caribbean.

New photos show the pop couple frolicking in the surf of Turks and Caicos.

Wentz phoned in to Ryan Seacrest’s Los Angeles radio show on Tuesday to ‘reveal’ he and Simpson were lying low and recovering from their weekend wedding in their basement.

He said, “We’re in the basement on our honeymoon with these blow-up palm trees.”

Ashlee Simpson is one ecstatic wife-to-be, and her diamond sparkler had her gushing to Ryan Seacrest on Thursday morning.

Calling into to his KIIS-FM radio show Thursday morning, the 23-year old singer giggled when Seacrest brought up her impressive ring from fiancé Pete Wentz, 28. “It is [huge]!” Simpson said from her mother’s New York City hotel room, “I stare at it. I’m like, ‘Oh, my god, I can’t believe this is on [my] hand!’”

Simpson was more coy about other details of their recent engagement to the Fall Out Boy bassist. “I’m keeping that part sacred,” she said of Wentz’s actual proposal. “But I will tell you it was very thoughtful and he did a great job.”

Pushed on whether she was planning on drinking alcohol Thursday night, Simpson stayed mum on her pregnancy, playfully answering, “Who knows. Maybe.”

Still, Simpson couldn’t contain her happiness. Despite the name of her upcoming album – Bittersweet World, out April 22 – she said she was “extremely in love making the record.”

Rapper Nas called the newly engaged couple “super people” and shared his recipe for rock star marital bliss with People at a Belvedere vodka event. “Respect each person’s individuality,” said Nas, who has his own high-profile musical marriage with R&B singer Kelis. “Don’t try to hog somebody or handcuff ‘em. Help them grow and blossom.”

Ryan Seacrest was in a charitable mood Sunday night: In addition to hosting Fox’s Idol Gives Back special, the host also handed over his paycheck for the evening.

A source close to Seacrest tells People that he wanted to show fans that he was serious about the cause.

“When he and Simon went to Africa last year and saw the children, it was really life-altering for him,” says the source. “He just knew he had to do his part and be willing to put his money where his mouth is.”

An insider close to Ryan’s inner circle is confirming that the American Idol and E! host has been seeing Sunset Tan star Holly “Olly” Huddleston for a few months now. Ryan has managed to keep the relationship hush-hush since the couple started dating, but Holly has been seen recently backstage at Idol tapings, adding fuel to the rumor mill. Ryan, 33, and Holly, 22, reportedly met through a mutual E! network connection.

The results of Victoria’s Secret’s 2008 What Is Sexy list are in — Ryan Seacrest officially has the world’s sexiest smile. “What’s sexy about him is he doesn’t act like he is,” Victoria’s Secret spokeswoman Monica Mitro tells the A.P. “We felt that his smile was quite sexy — in a very subtle and innocent and humble way.”

One New Year’s resolution for the multi-tasking Ryan Seacrest, who is single, could be to find a Mrs. Seacrest – or, at least, make time for a personal life.

“I think, in a way, my goal is to focus on a little bit more balance,” a smiling Seacrest 33, told PEOPLE at a recent photo shoot for Crest and Scope’s tooth-whitening products. “I really haven’t been out with anybody. … This week I’ll literally work seven days, and I’ll get home at 10 p.m.”

So, how will he make more time for romance?

“I don’t know,” Seacrest says. “I haven’t figured it out yet.”

As for his busy schedule this week, Seacrest will be in New York’s Times Square to bid farewell to 2007 with his New Year’s Rockin’ Eve co-host Dick Clark – whom Seacrest tells PEOPLE is “doing better and better” after suffering a stroke in late 2004.

“He’s doing alright,” says Seacrest. “He and Fergie and I were doing a photo shoot, and Fergie couldn’t have looked better. Dick gave some vintage looks to [the] camera when he saw her gorgeous legs and body in this little skirt.”

Meanwhile, Seacrest is also prepping for American Idol’s upcoming seventh season (premiering Jan. 15). “This year, you will see us go back to our roots,” Seacrest says. “We’re going to focus more on the kids – where they came from, the background, what they did for a living. We also have more rockers this year.”
