Actress Rose McGowan is engaged to director Robert Rodridguez, a source close to the actress tells PEOPLE.

McGowan, 34, met Rodriguez, 39, in 2006 when he directed her in the Planet Terror portion of the Grindhouse double feature.

“He’s my best friend,” McGowan told People last June. “We instantly became really good friends.”

Engagement rumors swirled for months as the couple attended Hollywood events, and recently McGowan has been sporting a large diamond ring on her wedding finger.

McGowan previously was engaged to rocker Marilyn Manson. Rodriguez is divorced from producer Elizabeth Avellan, with whom he has five children.

A rep for McGowan declined to comment. Calls to Rodriguez’s rep were not immediately returned.

A highly reliable source tells ELLE.com exclusively that Rose McGowan is slipping into a fur bikini and major bouffant to take on the title role in the remake of Barbarella. Robert Rodriguez, who left his wife after falling for McGowan on the Grindhouse set, is directing and has cast his love in the part made famous by Jane Fonda. While the rumor mill placed everyone from Halle Berry to Kate Beckinsale and Nicole Kidman in the role of Queen of the Galaxy, it seems he’s found the perfect Barbarella in McGowan.

The newly blond Rose partied it up on Friday night until 6am with Domenico and Stefano following their Dolce & Gabanna show. Only a few short hours later, she had to hightail it to the airport for a flight to L.A., presumably to get back to the set.

According to some, Rose McGowan lost out on a role for the upcoming movie Speed Racer because the powers that be for movie production thought that Ms. McGowan has had too much plastic surgery in the near past and she would be nrecognizable to movie goers. Ouch and I say Ouch because that has to hurt her ego and her face looks like it’s painful. What do you guys think? Too much plastic surgery?

Rose McGowan has been sporting a big rock as of late sparking rumors that she and boyfriend Robert Rodriguez are tying the knot.

Page Six is reporting that reps for the two are not commenting on this new development but I’m sure that the lovebirds would have to wait a while before getting married because I have a feeling he isn’t divorced yet.

These two met while filming “Grindhouse” and while Rodriguez was still married.  McGowan was previously engaged to creepy Marilyn Manson. I think for both of them this is an upgrade.
