A Sherlock Holmes curse?

spl54396_001.jpg

The cast and crew first wondered if they had a mystery fit for legendary detective Holmes on their hands when ROBERT DOWNEY JR was knocked out by a 7ft wrestler.

Then yesterday, he and JUDE LAW, 35 — who plays his sidekick Dr Watson — had to flee the set with Ritchie when a petrol tanker exploded in a fireball.

The Iron Man actor, 43, was knocked unconscious by 25-stone co-star ROBERT MAILLET during a fight scene.

Downey Jr — who plays the famous detective — was “out cold” for six seconds and “drooling blood” before medics could bring him round.
A nurse on set at Chatham dockyard in Kent gave him six stitches in his mouth.

A source said: “Robert was accidentally caught on the chin by a thundering hook. He went flying and was out cold.
“He didn’t want to go to hospital and kept trying to get up. He’s a trooper. But there have been lots of other problems too.”

Yesterday’s drama came as the loaded tanker burst into flames during a delivery to the set — forcing it to close for two hours.

The source added: “The crew have started joking about the curse of Sherlock Holmes.”

Robert Downey Jr. to direct Ben Stiller?

spl57681_011.jpg

Robert Downey Jr. is set to direct Ben Stiller in a film about conjoined twins. The actor – who appears in ‘Tropic Thunder’ alongside Ben, who also directs the comic movie – wants to make the movie in a bid to give Ben the chance to win the Oscar he craves.

He told BANG Showbiz: “There is a story about some famous conjoined twins – I don’t remember their names but that’s irrelevant anyway – and I’m going to direct Ben in that film. Ben will play both twins. It’s going to be kind of like ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, except with two buttons.”

“He got me to score in the comedy department and I am determined to help him win two Oscars for playing the same part. And we will get picketed by the Siamese twins organisation, which will draw more attention to the cause.”

Robert is also planning to give himself an unusual starring role in the film.

He quipped: “I am also going to make a cameo as a Siamese cat. I want Ben to win one Oscar for a dramatic role and another for his role in a musical or comedy because one of the conjoined twins likes to tap out the words and dance a little bit!”

I can’t tell if he’s actually doing a movie about conjoined twins – or if the whole thing’s a joke.  What do you think?

“Sherlock Holmes” ET interview with RDJ and Rachel McAdams

I watched Iron Man again last night, and loved it even more the second time. Is there anything that Robert Downey Jr. can’t do? And do well!? I love him. He’s definitely lickable. (And yes, I mean lickable, not likeable)

ET was in London to speak to the stars of the highly anticipated blockbuster ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ starring Robert Downey Jr. and Rachel McAdams.

The Guy Ritchie-directed film, due to begin shooting this month, will feature Downey Jr. as famed detective Sherlock Holmes in a mystery that promises a fresh take on the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character.

The movie will present Holmes as more adventurous and less formal than previous screen incarnations and Downey Jr. says he is excited to take on the new action-packed challenge, saying it promises to be “big and fun.”

He also reveals he’ll have a lot of intense fight scenes in the film, which he says should be no problem for him since he has been training in martial arts for the past five years.

The 43-year-old actor’s new project comes on the heels of his hugely successful blockbuster ‘Iron Man,’ which has already earned $318.3 million for Paramount Pictures at the U.S. box office.

For her part, McAdams describes her character as an underworld adventuress with a criminal mind, but who also has her romantic and “delicious” sides. She says it will be a pleasure working with Downey Jr. and Ritchie, whom she calls a “collaborative, experimental director.”

Based on a forthcoming comic book written by the film’s producer Lionel Wigram, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ will be distributed by Warner Bros for release in 2010.

Jude Law to play Dr. Watson?

Jude Law

Jude Law is reportedly in talks to star alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.

Law is touted to play Holmes’ sidekick Dr. Watson in the forthcoming film and is expected to sign up for the part shortly, according to Daily Variety.

Ritchie denied that Russell Crowe was lined up for the role after reports surfaced earlier this month.

Production on the movie is slated to begin in October in London.
