Bob Newhart star, Suzanne Pleshette dies at 70

Suzanne Pleshette

Suzanne Pleshette, best-known for her role as Bob Newhart’s wisecracking wife on the 1970s sitcom The Bob Newhart Show, died at her home in Los Angeles Saturday. She was 70.

The throaty-voiced actress, who also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and on Broadway in The Miracle Worker, passed away from respiratory failure, said her lawyer and family friend Robert Finkelstein, the Associated Press reports. She had been treated for lung cancer in 2006.

Born in 1937 in New York City, Pleshette began her acting career on the stage in the 1950s after attending New York’s High School for the Performing Arts. She then moved into film and TV roles, often getting parts because of her husky voice. “When I was 4,” she said in a 1994 interview, “I was answering the phone, and [the callers]] thought I was my father.”

Most recently, Pleshette starred in TV movies such as 1990′s Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean for which she received an Emmy nomination. She also appeared on the sitcoms Will & Grace and 8 Simple Rules.

Pleshette became a widow last year when her husband, comic actor Tom Poston, died after a brief illness. The pair married in 2001, more than 40 years after they had first met on Broadway in 1959.

RIP, Suzanne!

Breaking News! Brad Renfro found dead!

brad_renfro_dies.jpg

This is totally sad, he was such a cute kid.  I remember how everyone thought he would do so many great things after appearing in The Client.

TMZ has learned actor Brad Renfro is dead.

The 25-year-old actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home this morning. The cause of death has not been determined, however, Renfro has had a history of drug abuse.

Sources tell us Renfro, who had starring roles in “The Client” and “Apt Pupil” had been working valiantly to stay clean, especially since this summer. Renfro had been convicted of several drug offenses, including attempted heroin possession.

Renfro had been filming a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie, “The Informers,” just wrapped.

Renfro has had a rough time personally since moving to from Tennessee to Los Angeles. His parents split, and we’re told he did not have real guidance from adults as he tried navigating the treacherous movie industry.

RIP Ike Turner.

 iketurner.bmp

Ike Turner, the legendary musician and former husband of Tina Turner, has died at 76.

“He did pass away this morning” at his home near San Diego, said Scott M. Hanover of Thrill Entertainment Group, which managed Turner’s career, according to the Associated Press.

No other details were immediately available. TMZ.com earlier broke the news on its Web site.

Born and raised in Clarksdale, Miss., Turner was inspired by the old blues artists and embarked on a musical career of his own in the late 1940s. He later met Anna Mae Bullock, aka Tina Turner, who would become his wife and his musical partner for many years.

The couple’s often-tempestuous relationship was detailed in Tina Turner’s biography, which was the basis for the movie What’s Love Got to Do with It? They split in the 1970s.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 1990, Turner admitted to being abusive in his marriage.

“All the fights Tina and I had were about her being sad about something,” he said. “I get real emotional if you’re worrying and don’t tell me what it is. Then I can’t think about nothing else. So I’d slap her or something like that.”

Earlier this year, Turner told Jet magazine that he regretted many of his actions as a husband. “If I owe anybody an apology, that would be Tina,” he said. “I put her through hell with other women. I regret it today, but I can’t undo it.”

Turner married four times and had four children: Ike Jr., Michael, Ronald and Mia. Alongside his former wife, he was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.

tylo_blog.jpg

Soap star Hunter Tylo‘s oldest son, Michael Tylo Jr., died Wednesday night in Henderson, Nevada. Sarah Mildebrandt, Investigative Supervisor at the Clark County Coronor’s office tells Usmagazine.com that “the cause of death was drowning due to seizure disorder,” and that the “manner of death was accident.”

On the topic of whether there will be a toxicology report, Mildebrandt says there will be no toxicology tests done on the body. “The doctor determined the final cause today,” Mildebrandt says.

Hunter Tylo, 45, currently stars on CBS soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, but she might be best known for a role she was fired from. Tylo once won a reported $5 million dollars in a lawsuit after Aaron Spelling fired her from Melrose Place after she got pregnant.

Tylo’s manager Marv Dauer tells the Associated Press of the actress, whose daughter Katya lost an eye due to cancer, “She’s had one tragedy in her life after another, more than her share.”
