“Beastie Boys” rapper MCA — real name Adam Yauch — has died.
In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.
So far, it’s not clear if the death is related to the rapper’s battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons’ website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.
Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The group has won multiple Grammys.
Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.
Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys’ induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group’s most recent album, “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.” The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch’s illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.”
Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1979. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, “Licensed to Ill,” in 1986, and further albums “Paul’s Boutique,” “Check Your Head” and “Ill Communication” cemented the band as a true superstar act.
In addition to his career with the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the movement to free Tibet and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the late Nineties. In 2002, he launched the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories. (Today)

Ryan Seacrest is especially hit by the sudden passing of host and television personality Dick Clark.
Having taken the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve torch in 2006, Seacrest learned an amazing amount of wisdom from the late radio and television innovator. The two became close friends over the years. This was a dream come true for Seacrest, who was a huge fan of Dick Clark and always looked to him as his mentor.
Seacrest tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life.”
This news makes me so sad! Dick Clark was such a big part of my life growing up. We never missed a New Years Eve countdown with him as host. He was always so happy, and made the holidays just that much better.
Dick Clark – famed TV producer, and “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” host — died from a massive heart attack this morning … TMZ has learned.
He was 82.
Details surrounding his death are unclear, but Clark had suffered a significant stroke in 2004 — forcing him to retire from his hosting gig at “New Years’ Rockin’ Eve,” which he created in 1972.
Ryan Seacrest took over in 2006. Dick has co-hosted the show ever since.
Before suffering a stroke, Clark told Larry King he suffered from Type 2 diabetes.
Clark has been married 3 times — and has 3 children from his first two marriages. He is survived by his current wife Kari Wigton.
“For now, Dick Clark … so long.”
Rest in peace!
