Rihanna credits her success as a singer to childhood bullying, insisting her prejudiced peers prepared her for the entertainment industry by forcing her to develop a thick skin.
The Barbados-born beauty experienced difficulty fitting in at school because her lighter complexion left her feeling like an outsider.
But she says the taunting she endured is what eventually drove her to seek out the limelight.
She says, “It (prejudice) made me angry. It made me want to fight in my younger years. Having lighter skin wasn’t a problem in my household, but it was when I went to school - which really confused me at first. For the first six years of school, I would go home traumatized.”

Chris Brown refuses to answer interviewers’ questions about his relationship with Rihanna - because he hates discussing his personal life with strangers.
The Kiss Kiss hitmaker has been romantically linked to the Umbrella beauty for months, but both singers have continually denied they are a couple, despite being snapped in public kissing and cuddling.
And Brown insists he will always keep the media guessing about his love life.
He tells WENN, “Nobody wants to focus on what’s positive, they want to know about my personal life. Every interview I do, they’re like, ‘So, how are you and such and such doing?’ And I’m like, I don’t know you, why you all in my business? So that’s my take on it personally.”

Rihanna has vowed never to pose for a naked photoshoot - because her mother would “kill” her.
Although the singer has proved she isn’t shy about shedding her clothes in the name of work - she appeared wearing just gold body paint for her 2007 Umbrella video - she refuses to strip off for a magazine.
She tells MTV.co.uk, “My mother would kill me if I posed nude! When I did that metallic body paint stuff for my Umbrella video, I didn’t do it to show my body. I didn’t do it for people to like me. I did it because it was a cool visual, unexpected, and it looked hot. I have done a lot of photoshoots for magazines but it’s always great to be shot for a cover because you know that you are looked at as a fashion icon.”
