Moviegoers didn’t flock to see Katie Holmes’ return to the big screen this weekend.

Her comedy Mad Money, co-starring Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton, came in at No. 7 with $7.7 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

Cloverfield, the sci-fi monster flick, was the box office champ with $41 million.

No. 2: Katherine Heigl’s romantic comedy 27 Dresses, with $22.4 million. (See her in a bridesmaid dress here.)

The Jack Nicholson comedy The Bucket List ranked No. 3 with $15.2 million, while the indie comedy Juno (starring Ellen Page, who just signed on for Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut) came in at No. 4 with $10.3 million.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets was No. 5 with $8.1 million; First Sunday, No. 6, with $7.8 million.

Critics had slammed Holmes for her role. The New York Times called her “the movie’s weakest link.”

Queen Latifah, Diane Keaton and Katie Holmes all showed up to promote their new film, “Mad Money.”

Hollywood is buzzing about Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah teaming up to star in The Secret Life of Bees. Dakota Fanning and Alicia Keys are in negotiations to join the film as well, Variety reports.

Based on the 2002 New York Times bestseller by Sue Monk Kidd, Bees is set in the 1960s and centers on Lily Owens (Fanning), a 14-year-old girl who runs away with her caregiver (Hudson) to a South Carolina town. There, the girl is taken in by an eccentric trio of beekeeping sisters (Latifah, Keys, and Sophia Okonedo). Owens soon learns that this town holds the secret to her mother’s past.

Kirstie Alley and Valerie Bertinelli have another pal joining them in the Jenny Craig universe: Queen Latifah.

The Oscar-nominated singer and actress, 37, has signed up to be the latest celebrity spokesperson for the weight-loss chain, People confirms exclusively.

“We officially confirm that Queen Latifah will join the Jenny Craig program in January,” Scott Parker, Jenny Craig’s vice president of marketing, tells People. “We are thrilled to have Queen Latifah support our mission of improving health by taking her first step toward achieving a more healthful lifestyle.”

Parker adds: “Queen Latifah joins forces with Jenny Craig to communicate the importance of how small lifestyle changes, in the areas of diet and exercise, can have positive effects on overall health.”

The Hairspray star, who has consistently celebrated her plus-size figure over the years (including a recent People cover story), will have a “very different campaign, focused on a healthier lifestyle, not on getting onto a specific dress size,” says Parker.

Of her figure, Latifah told People in October, “I would say I’m voluptuous.”

Queen Latifah says that the rumors you are hearing about her getting married to her long-time female personal trainer are just not true.

“When you’re famous these days, it’s just part of the deal — unfortunately,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times this past weekend while promoting her upcoming Christmas comedy The Perfect Holiday.

“People will make up all sorts of things that are not true,” she said, adding, “There ain’t gonna be no wedding.”
