Prince Harry kicked off the Concert for Diana with the words: “Hello, Wembley!”

William and brother Harry took to the stage in front of a 63,000-strong crowd at Wembley Stadium at the start of the special event they have organised in memory of their mother, on what would have been her 46th birthday.

Sir Elton John opened the event with a performance of Your Song before introducing the two princes, who entered to a standing ovation.

“This event is about all that our mother loved in life – her music, her dancing, her charities and her family and friends,” said William, 25. “We just want you to have an awesome time and enjoy the line-up.”

Harry said: “It’s great to see so many of you here supporting this very special show.”

And the 22-year-old royal couldn’t resist cracking a gag.

“When William and I first had the idea we forgot we would end up standing here desperately trying to think of something funny to say. We’ll leave that to the funny people – and Ricky Gervais,” he quipped.

The princes were watched by Harry’s girlfriend Chelsy Davy and William’s former girlfriend Kate Middleton, who helped them to organise the event.

The concert marks the 10th anniversary of Diana’s death and features a line-up of acts including Lily Allen, Take That, Kanye West and Sir Tom Jones.

The princes introduced one of their mother’s favourite bands, Eighties heart-throbs Duran Duran, before taking their seats in the royal box.

Kate Middleton’s romance with Prince William may be back on. The royal pair broke up in April, but according to News of the World, Wills wants Kate back! Sources told the paper that royal hottie has secretly taken Kate out several times in the last month, in the hopes of winning her heart back.

Earlier this month, Kate and Will locked lips at William’s Army barracks’ party, before reportedly retiring to William’s private quarters.

“No one in the royal household would be at all surprised if they get back together,” said a royal source.

Prince William turned 25 on Thursday – and his bank account got a serious boost.

The prince now has access to the interest – an estimated $500,000 to $600,000 a year – generated by the $13 million left to him by his mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

He’ll come into the full capital sum when he turns 30. His brother Harry, 22, will gain access to his inheritance – a similar amount – on the same schedule, according to their mother’s will.

Reps for the prince would not say what he plans to do with the money, the Associated Press reports.

He and Harry each earn about $44,000 a year as second lieutenants in the British army, and their necessities – including housing, staff and polo playing – are paid for by their father, Prince Charles.

According to Britain’s Guardian newspaper, William was expected to spend his birthday training with the army in Dorset.

The breakup was “amicable,” according to a friend of the couple.

The prince, 24, and Middleton, 25, have been dating for nearly five years, after meeting at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

A spokesman at the prince’s office at Clarence House says they will not be commenting. “We don’t comment on Prince William’s private life,” the rep says. Britain’s The Sun newspaper first reported Saturday that the pair had reached an “amicable agreement” to separate.

The pair are said to have grown increasingly independent of each other since their university days. William is currently taking an armored corps commander course in Dorset, around 125 miles west of London, and it has kept him from Middleton and her new life in London.

Middleton, who is an accessories buyer for the British fashion chain Jigsaw, also was having difficulties with the media pressure that came with being his long-term girlfriend. (Speculation continued over whether the couple would get engaged.)

Although she has been “brave,” as one friend tells PEOPLE, the attention was an ongoing source of trouble. Earlier this month she won a public apology from a British newspaper after it printed a photograph of her heading to work.

The engagement talk peaked in December, when she appeared at his graduation from military college, sitting in a prominent seat along with her parents and two of his closest friends.
