Obvious News: Expert says Bronx Mowgli “Won’t Set Off Baby Name Fad”

ashlee_simpson071508.jpg

A baby name expert is weighing in on Bronx Mowgli, the newborn son of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz.

“I’d say that in the world of unusual or bizarre baby names, this is the biggest double whammy since Moxie CrimeFighter [daughter of magician Penn Jillette] and Pilot Inspektor [son of actor Jason Lee],” Linda Rosenkrantz, co-author of The Baby Name Bible tells Usmagazine.com.

So where does Bronx come from?

“Bronx – named after early Dutch settler Jonas Bronck – follows in the footsteps of that other NYC borough, Brooklyn, but is not likely to set off a baby name fad as Brooklyn has,” Rosenkrantz adds.

(Victoria and David Beckham named their nine-year-old son Brooklyn after the area of NYC in which he was conceived.)

Brooklyn is more popular than Bronx because it “has a soft, feminine sound – in fact it’s No. 57 on the girls’ popularity list and seen by some parents as the combination of two female names, Brooke and Lynn,” Rosenkrantz says.

“Bronx has a much harsher, grittier sound, and the nickname Bronxie has something of a negative feel,” adds the expert.

But Bronx “follows the tradition started by the Jolie-Pitts of x-ending boys’ names, such in Maddox, Pax and Knox…and the trend for ‘place names’ like Kingston and Paris,” Rosenkrantz points out.

The newborn’s middle name, Mowgli, “was created by Rudyard Kipling for his Jungle Book stories, best remembered by most people via the spunky 10-year-old boy brought up by wolves in the 1967 Disney animated version.

“Even though in the stories Mowgli was said to mean ‘frog,’ it was actually made up by the author and has no real meaning,” she adds.

Overall, the Wentzs may have gone with the moniker because “obviously they’re into Disney big time!” Rosenkrantz says.

“Just weeks ago, the mother-to-be was given a Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower,” Rosenkrantz says. “Prior to that, the couple were married in an Alice in Wonderland-themed ceremony.”

Bronx Mowgli Wentz was born Thursday night, a rep for the Wentzs confirmed to Us.

“Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!” the rep added, calling the couple “proud parents.”

It’s a boy for Ashlee and Pete!

ashlee_pete_wentz.bmp

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and husband Pete Wentz welcomed a son Thursday night, PEOPLE confirms.

Bronx Mowgli Wentz weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long. (Isn’t Mowgli the boy from Jungle Book?)

“Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!” a spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

Simpson-Wentz, 24, and the Fall Out Boy bassist, 29, announced her pregnancy in May, a few weeks after their opulent Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland-themed wedding.

“I would love to have a big family one day,” Simpson-Wentz told PEOPLE at the time. Added Wentz: “A big soccer team or a band!”

And, as her dad, Joe Simpson, recently put it to PEOPLE: “The day she found out she was pregnant, she became a woman.”

Wentz, meanwhile, has been leaning on rocker pal Joel Madden – dad to 9-month-old Harlow with girlfriend Nicole Richie – for tips on fatherhood. “Joel gives me advice,” Wentz recently told PEOPLE. “[It's] been really awesome for me to go to another person my age.”

Richie and Harlow were guests at Simpson-Wentz’s Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower on Nov. 1.

Wentz also has another kind of baby on the way: Fall Out Boy’s third album, Folie A Deux, will be released on Dec. 16.

Pete Wentz: Wife Ashlee Could Give Birth “Any Point Now”

wenn2106035.jpg

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is ready to pop!

“I’m permanently on-call right now,” her husband, Pete Wentz, said on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Thursday.

“She is at the very end, and it could happen at any point now,” added Wentz, who announced the pregnancy in May shortly after they’d wed.

Wentz, 29, says his wife, 24, is “excited, she’s anxious…I think she wants it to be over. She just wants to not be pregnant any more. She wants to have it because it’s, like, a struggle to go up and down the stairs…going out in public’s insane.

“She’s hot all the time,” added Wentz. “She’s like ‘I wish I was in Canada right now.’ Our room temperature is set to, like, 34 degrees. It’s insane!”

Wentz admits they haven’t yet come up with a name for the baby. (He’s also denied it was a boy after slipping up and calling it a “he” earlier.)

“I want to meet them first,” he said. “My brother was almost a Duncan, and he’s Andrew now. I think it might have ruined his life more if he was a Duncan.”

His goal?

To make sure the baby’s name would work as either “a rock star or a senator,” he said.

Pete Wentz has trouble with insomnia

Pete Wentz

Pete Wentz has to carefully balance the sleeping pills he takes to nod off at night – because a wrong dosage keeps him awake hallucinating.

As well as anxiety, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and depression, the Fall Out Boy star suffers from insomnia and needs help getting to sleep.

He tells Playboy magazine that without medication he can only sleep for an hour at a time.

Wentz explains, “If I don’t take an Ambien, I’ll sleep for an hour. With Ambien, I’ll sleep from 2am to seven (am). But, if you don’t fall asleep, Ambien makes you hallucinate. About four months ago I took Ambien and almost set the house on fire.”

And the fact that his wife Ashlee Simpson is pregnant only serves to make matters worse: “She goes to bed at eight… so it’s just me and the dogs, hanging out. You don’t even know the transcendent conversations we have.”

Why Pete Wentz is so emo

Pete Wentz

Earlier this morning we came across a little quote Pete Wentz gave to Playboy about popping Ambien and playing Russian roulette. Turns out there was so much more in that interview.

“As a kid I always went to therapists; the first time was when my parents were separated on my sixth birthday, then on and off since then. I was diagnosed with ADD—see also: raised on sugary cereals and cartoons—and manic depression. So I was prescribed Ritalin for the ADD, and for the manic imbalances I was prescribed mostly benzodiazepines, which I loved, and antidepressants.”

Divorced parents, ADD, sugary cereals, prescription drugs—sounds like the perfect recipe for some serious Hot Topic emo-ness. It also makes us feel a little bit bad for the guy, so we’ll just end this by saying how excited we are for his future emo-baby with Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, which the couple is 90 percent expecting to be a boy.

It’s a boy for Pete Wentz & Ashlee Simpson!

Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz

The sex of Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson’s baby revealed! Pete tells Playboy magazine in an interview that he and Ashlee are 90 percent sure they will be having a baby boy this fall.

“We know with 90 percent accuracy that it’s a boy and our due date is around Thanksgiving. We don’t have any names yet. My friend Andrew said, ‘Your kid has to have a name that would fit either a rock star or a senator,’” Pete tells the magazine.

In the article, Pete also opens up about battling depression. “As a kid I always went to therapists; the first time was when my parents were separated on my sixth birthday, then on and off since then. I was diagnosed with ADD.”

He also speaks candidly about an overdose from an anxiety medication suffered in February 2005. “It had more to do with being depressed. I wasn’t thinking of killing myself. I’ve never really called it a suicide attempt. I just wanted my head to be completely turned off. I took a handful of Ativan.”

On Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback and boyfriend of his wife’s sister, Jessica, Pete says: “I like Tony a lot. He’s a rad dude, and we’re both into Guns n’ Roses. Magazines always like to use pictures of us together: ‘Tony wears Nikes, but Pete’s checking out Balenciaga bags.’”

Pete’s full interview will appear in the October issue of Playboy, available this Friday on newsstands and online at www.playboydigital.com.
