“I’m excited to be a dad,” he recently told E! News. “I’m a genuinely nervous person. The first time I ever went to the doctor’s office and heard the heartbeat, I felt totally content and at peace with everything. It feels good.”

Usmagazine.com first broke the news in April that Ashlee Simpson and Wentz were expecting.

They confirmed the news on his Web site in May, calling it “the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family.”

The couple wed in Los Angeles on May 17 and honeymooned in the Caribbean.

Newlywed Pete Wentz is ready to embrace fatherhood for the first time.

In an interview with E! News on Tuesday night at the Op clothing launch party in Los Angeles, Wentz revealed he’s “excited to be a dad.”

“I’m genuinely a nervous person in general,” said Wentz.

But finding out he was expecting a child with wife Ashlee Simpson, whom he married in a fantasy wedding on May 17, was an exception.

“The first time I ever went to the doctor’s office and heard the (baby’s) heartbeat, I felt totally content and at peace with everything,” he said.

Wentz and his wife, who has changed her name to Ashlee-Wentz but will go by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz professionally, confirmed the pregnancy on Wentz’s friendsandenemies.com website last Thursday.

“While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child,” the couple wrote. “This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family.”

The day after their wedding, Simpson-Wentz told People, “I would love to have a big family one day.” Added her new husband: “A big soccer team or a band!”

Pete Wentz is desperate to release a new album with his fellow Fall Out Boy bandmates – despite preparing to become a first time father with his new wife Ashlee Simpson.

The rocker wed pop star Simpson last month in a lavish ceremony and two weeks later, the pair confirmed they are expecting their first child.

But, according to Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump, Wentz still has music on his mind – and even on his wedding day, he and his bandmates “were like, ‘We should do another record.’”

Stump adds, “The band is really not talking about a record yet, but we’re all itching to do one. We’re always writing. We’ve had material since (2007 album) Infinity on High dropped. So there is plenty just floating around. There is nothing ‘hiatus’ or ‘indefinite’ about what’s going on with Fall Out Boy right now.”

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz may be on their way to becoming first-time parents, but Ashlee’s older sister has no doubt the sort of mother her sibling will be.

“She’ll be amazing, absolutely amazing,” Jessica Simpson, 27, told People in Las Vegas Saturday at the grand opening of Palms Place.

Jessica, who is dipping into the country-music scene, also says that her sister’s relationship with the Fall Out Boy bassist helps inspire her own music.

“They’re just the cutest couple in the world,” she says. “They are adorable. Anybody would wish to be them and you can only wish them well. Just being around them inspires love and everything I sing about.”

At the Vegas event, newlywed Ashlee, 23, never strayed far from her sister, as the two hung out in the VIP area and took photos together – several with Jess’s hand on her sister’s stomach – while Pete Wentz remained only a few feet away, playing DJ at the event.

Came the end of his two-hour set, Wentz, 28, thanked his “baby mama.”

Pete Wentz has defended his decision to keep his wife Ashlee Simpson’s pregnancy a secret from the media – insisting he wanted to “protect her and the baby”.

The couple was dogged by baby rumors for weeks, but refused to confirm the news until Wednesday – after Simpson had passed the first trimester of her pregnancy.

And the Fall Out Boy guitarist felt it was only right to keep the news quiet until his wife was given a full bill of health from doctors.

He tells MTV.com, “Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least three months before sharing this very personal news. We wanted to wait until after the first trimester before confirming anything, just like any other couple. Being a boy I have no idea how to respond to such things and my first instinct was to protect her and the baby.”

“It’s insane that you can’t let happy news brew in Hollywood. This wasn’t about press or anything. It was about the health of the baby and trying to find a way to be happy with what should be the most happy time of our lives in the middle of a press blitz. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the person and growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend.”

Pete Wentz commissioned an artist to build a huge bumblebee out of Lego as a wedding day treat for his new wife Ashlee Simpson.

The Fall Out Boy rocker asked Nathan Sawaya to make the symbolic creature out of 18,000 Lego bricks.

Sawaya tells E!online.com, “In Hindu myth, Kama, the god of love, has a bow and arrows, and the bow string is made up of bees.”

“In the ancient Greek world the bee symbolized the soul because they migrated in swarms. And the Roman god of love, Cupid, is often pictured with bees or being stung.”

“I made this bee for a boy who wanted to give his girl a special wedding gift.
“They are a fun couple as evidenced by their Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding.”

The couple, who wed in Encino, California on May 17th, has just confirmed Simpson is pregnant with her first child.
