Pete Wentz has radio DJ and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest to thank for helping to make his recent honeymoon a paparazzi-free one.

The Fall Out Boy star and his pregnant bride took off to Turks and Caicos, but called in to Seacrest’s Los Angeles breakfast show in a bid to fool the media.

Wentz insisted he and his wife had decided not to spend money on an expensive vacation, and instead they were honeymooning in the basement of their California home, surrounded by inflatable palm trees.

And the media bought the ruse.

Chuckling about the prank during a chat with Seacrest on Thursday, Wentz said, “They (paparazzi) were at the house… I’d actually called you from Turks and Caicos and it got picked up on and people ran with the story that we were, like, fake baking with plastic palm trees in the basement. For once my cheap, scummy image paid off for me.”

But the honeymoon wasn’t entirely paparazzi free - one eager Turks and Caicos snapper spotted the couple and shot photos of them walking along a beach.

Pete Wentz needs to get his paperwork in order after reportedly learning his driving license is invalid.

The newlywed Fall Out Boy star was pulled over by police in Hollywood on Wednesday afternoon.

Fortunately for Wentz, his sister Hilary was driving his black SUV - and so the rocker wasn’t hauled off to the nearest police station.

But, when he identified himself as the owner of the vehicle, embarrassed Wentz was told his license had expired and he needed to update the information before he could get back behind the wheel.

An eyewitness says, “Pete wasn’t happy at all, especially when he realized his every move was being photographed by the paparazzi. The police officer understood his concerns and agreed to follow Pete and his sister into a nearby movie studio lot. A little while later the officer left after giving Pete a warning.”

These days when he isn’t rocking out with Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz can often be found speaking to his unborn child or reading books about fatherhood.

“I talk to it all the time,” he told People Saturday at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 86 afterparty in Las Vegas. “The Expectant Father tells you that the woman, when she speaks, the baby hears her all the time. And the father’s voice isn’t familiar unless you talk to it, so I talk to it all the time.”

Armin Brott’s parenthood tome is just one of the books the bassist is reading to prepare himself for his and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s first child together.

“It tells you your partner’s moods month-by-month and week-by-week,” says Wentz, who is also getting advice from both his father and Joe Simpson. “It tells you why you’re feeling the way you are, how you can feel more involved in the pregnancy.”

And while Ashlee often has cravings for ice cream, pickles and green olives, everything is “going well,” says Wentz, who performed a two-hour DJ set at the House of Blues following the UFC match.

In fact, he is already hinting at more children in the future: “This is the first one so we’ll have to base the next one on how we do on the first one.”

Are Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz expecting a Fall Out Boy?

That’s what it seems like, according to their baby registry, CelebTV.com reports.

The newlyweds stopped by baby boutqiue Petit Tresor last month to prep their list and “almost everything [they picked out] is blue.”

Ashlee and Pete also weren’t trying very hard to keep it a secret either, a salesperson adds.

“They made it very clear that it was a boy,” the source says.

Also telling? One of the Plain Mary bibs they snatched up was emblazoned with the word “Hunk.”

In addition to that, the musical lovebirds bought other bibs labeled “Loved” and “Yummy” and a handful of t-shirts as well.

The couple tied the knot in an Alice in Wonderland-inspired ceremony on May 17. They finally confirmed their pregnancy two weeks later after months of speculation.

Dad-to-be Pete Wentz has a confession: He’s made out with dudes.

He tells Out magazine he first smooched a guy when he was 16 or 17, probably on a dare.

He experimented again around 18 and 19, he says.

His last same-sex make out?

“A long time ago,” Wentz, 29, says. “Probably when I was 22?”

The Fall Out Boy bassist — who wed Ashlee Simpson in May — puts all his experimenting in perspective.

“When I said that I make out with dudes, there was a slight sense of sexual rebellion in that,” he tells Out. “And I probably even made it a bigger deal than it was.”

(Asked to describe his sexuality, Wentz — who admits to having a crush on
John Mayer — says: “I’ve always felt this relentless heterosexual drive.”)

“Our culture bombards us with this idea that you’re not that, and if you are that, there’s something wrong with you, and then we’re going to call you that, and then it’s an insult,” Wentz says.

After Wentz once discussed his “possible bisexuality” with Blender, rumors floated that Joe Simpson, an ordained Baptist minister, had told Ashlee not to bring him home for the holidays.

He says that report was “such bull–t” and that Joe even joked about it.

“He was like, ‘We should take a picture in front of the Christmas tree holding hands,’” Wentz says. Still, he admits, “There are definitely ramifications for what you say.”

In general, Wentz says people are becoming open to alternative lifestyles.

“The actual acceptance of gay marriage is inevitable,” Wentz declares. “It’s just like how the next generation of kids are going to all have tattoos.”

Papa Joe Simpson can be proud. His son-in-law, Pete Wentz, “nailed” a recent performance of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” – a song once mangled by his other daughter’s beau.

Ashlee Simpson’s new hubby performed a stunning rendition of the baseball tune at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Sunday. Last month, Jessica Simpson’s boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, made headlines when he sang an off-key version of the same song also at Wrigley Field.

“We’ve had both [Simpson] significant others,” says Chicago Cubs manager of entertainment and player relations, Joe Rios. “It’s like comparing apples to oranges. But they were both great in their own ways.”

In terms of Wentz’s performance of the iconic song, which is traditionally performed by various celebs during the seventh-inning stretch, “He nailed it,” says Rios. “I would put him up there on the upper echelon. Definitely top one to two percent.”

Adds Rios, “Every now and then you get these awesome singers to do it. We’ve [also] had some non-polished professionals go out there and have fun.”

Romo’s off-key version of the song would certainly fall into the non-polished category – but that’s half the fun of it, according to Rios.

“Tony gave us a lot of fun with the pickup in the news about how awful he did,” laughs Rios. “It’s almost no fun when you nail it. There’s more to talk about when you screw up. If you do bad, it’s actually good.”

The important thing was that Romo and Wentz – who are both Cubs fans – had a “great time and had fun with it” says Rios. “Now we just need to get the sisters out next.”
