Jailed rocker Pete Doherty is to continue work on Babyshambles’ new album while he serves 14 weeks in prison.
The singer, whose drug use and legal woes have been well documented, was jailed on Tuesday (08Apr08) for “breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs”.
And the star’s Babyshambles colleagues have vowed to stand by him while he serves his time. But the band are determined not to let Doherty’s prison sentence affect work on their forthcoming third album, and are sending all of their recordings to London’s Wormwood Scrubs Prison so he can contribute.
Drummer Adam Ficek says, “We will send Pete the first nine burns (recordings) so he can work on them in there. It will give him something to keep him occupied, keep him focused and remind him that outside we’re all holding the fort for him. And also that as soon as he gets out it will be business as usual.”

Rocker Pete Doherty’s recent jailing is set to cost a British event organiser $140,000.
The Babyshambles frontman was jailed for 14 weeks on Tuesday for breaking probation and continued drug use.
Doherty has since been forced to cancel a string of performances, including GoBusker.com’s UK Battle of the Bands.
And organizer Joe Lucas fears he will have to cancel his event after losing a small fortune due to the troubled musician’s incarceration.
He says, “He’s let us down. It’s going to be a nightmare getting another headline name. We’ve spent a fortune on fliers, marketing and advertising with his name attached.”
Doherty was also due to headline the Walkman Presents Spring Fling party in London on Thursday, with Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell stepping in at the last minute to be his replacement.

British rocker Pete Doherty has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail for his drug use and failure to attend probation hearings in a timely manner.
The Babyshambles frontman was handed the prison term today, after appearing at West London Magistrates Court.
Judge Davinder Lachar, who presided over the case, has previously given Doherty a suspended jail sentence for various other drug offenses.
A court spokesperson says Doherty had been sentenced for “breach of time keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs”.
Doherty is now looking to appeal the ruling in a bid to press ahead with his tour schedule, which includes a date at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 26th and the Glastonbury festival in June.
However, in a statement from his record label Parlophone, label bosses claim the Royal Albert Hall gig will be postponed until after Doherty has completed his prison stint.
The statement reads: “(The Royal Albert Hall concert) is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced. Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and all those concerned.”

Laura “Lola” McLaughlin, who is a straight A student on her way to Harvard University claims that she’s three months pregnant with Pete Doherty’s baby.
“He knows about the baby. I told him I was pregnant the moment I found out shortly after Christmas. We are only in contact by phone.”
Lola told us the baby is the result of a sex-filled weekend with the Babyshambles star in her room at the 5-star Berkeley Hotel in London’s Knightsbridge in October.
She said: “I met Peter through mutual friends about a year ago. “He has always been overly tactile with me, kissing my neck and inviting me home with him. “He did not know I was a virgin, and I certainly didn’t tell him. I think he just thought I was an inexperienced lover and he told me ‘purity’ was a real turn-on for him.
McLaughlin says, “The baby is Peter’s. There is no doubt about that. I was a virgin when I met Peter and when we had sex. He knows about the baby. I told him I was pregnant the moment I found out.”
A rep for Doherty says, “Pete says he doesn’t know who this girl is.”

Pete Doherty is now stating the obvious. He will die unless he gets off the drugs! A “friend” of the British singer has given a news agency excerpts of Pete’s personal diary!
Doherty writes, “If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable. No jail, no rehab, normal functioning friendships and relationships and a lucrative, respectable career.”
I would probably own a house, a driving licence, and a better reputation. If I don’t pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go mad or end up permanently institutionalized. I’m on a direct course for all four.”
The pal adds, “I want this in the public domain because I want Pete to remember how determined he was to get clean and stay clean.”
I think i would be a little mad at the pal, but I agree that he needs to get clean!

The biggest train wreck I have ever seen was video taped injecting some heroine, therefore relapsing from his sobriety. His plan is to go back to rehab for the zillionth time.
What do you think?
The reps for his record label issued this statement:
“Peter Doherty would like to apologize to the medical staff, fans and well-wishers who have helped and encouraged his progress in fighting his addiction to heroin. His ongoing rehabilitation was a source of such pride to him that Peter and those closest to him thought that he was close to winning his personal battle with the drug. However, Peter sadly relapsed last week and is now looking to check himself back into a rehab clinic so that he can try to continue the hitherto excellent attempts he had made to break free of heroin. He realizes that he has not only let himself down but has let down those who trusted and encouraged his efforts and he is filled with remorse for what he describes today as, ‘a stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame.’”
