Pete Doherty fought back tears at a London gig on Tuesday, after burying his beloved pet cat just hours before he was due to go on stage.
The star apologized for arriving late to the show at the capital’s Brixton Mass venue, telling fans he had been forced to lay the animal to rest at the roadside before heading to the performance.
Before his arrival at the gig, the eager rock crowd were told the star was “en route” due to his kittens acting “crazy”.
And, once he arrived, the star told fans told fans the tragic reason for his tardiness: “Sorry I’m late. But considering I’ve had to bury one of my cats at the roadside I’ve done pretty well to be here.”
Doherty was spotted taking his beloved pet cat to a vet near his home in Wiltshire, England last week

Junkie rocker Pete Doherty was kicked out of Millwall football ground — for weeing in a trophy.
The Babyshambles star, a fan of London rivals QPR, was at the League One side’s New Den stadium to play in the Celebrity Soccer Sixes tournament.
A source said: “Babyshambles were given access to the chairman’s office so the attention surrounding Pete wouldn’t get in the way of all the other guests.
“He decided to play a prank but overstepped the mark.
“One of the security guards was tipped off that Pete was trying to take a trophy. When he checked it out he found that Pete wasn’t nicking it, he was filling it up.
“He is a huge QPR fan and thought it would be a laugh to leave a little surprise.”
The Babyshambles team — who played in QPR’s hooped kit — lost Sunday’s final to Faithless despite Doherty, 28, being cheered on by five-year-old son Astile, troubled singer Amy Winehouse, 24, and Pixie Geldof, 17.

Pete Doherty has spoken out about the bizarre video he appeared in alongside Amy Winehouse where the pair can be seen talking to mice – claiming they are her beloved pets.
The troubled British stars posted the strange clip on video-sharing website YouTube – which saw the Back To Black hitmaker use the rodents to pass on a message to her incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
In the 42 second-long footage she seemingly makes reference to recent reports she is set to split from Fielder-Civil, saying, “Please don’t divorce mummy.”
But Doherty denies that there was anything erratic about the video – insisting Winehouse was taking care of the creatures after one had babies.
He tells music website Gigwise.com, “One of the mice gave birth didn’t it? I think it was Jennifer. She (Winehouse) was really fond of them.”

The junkie rocker has purchased three more cats – taking his tally to ten.
If a house full of moggies wasn’t enough, Pete thought it would be a good idea to buy pregnant mice to roam around his Wiltshire home as the perfect feast for his kitties. Ugh!
Pete left his animal lair to perform at The Forum in London on Tuesday night — his first gig since prison.
With the venue only two thirds full, Babyshambles showed how mediocre they really are. But there were still impressive flashes.

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has returned to the stage for the first time since his stint in prison.
The star was released from jail last week after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence for violating his probation.
And the 29-year-old – who had missed a number of gigs while in prison – performed with the Babyshambles at The Forum in London on Tuesday night.
The singer told fans he was “a bit rusty” after his spell in prison and joked that he had developed a “massive spot” on his face.
The band’s frontman began the show by thanking “everyone who wrote a letter over the last month”.

Pete Doherty vowed to give up drugs after almost killing one of his beloved kittens.
The star admits he came close to murdering the feline – with the incident helping him to realise he needed to ditch his habit.
He says, “I got a shovel and was going to kill one of the cats. That was when I was, like, you know, ‘I’m a bit of a mess’. It was a bit of a crazy time.”
Doherty was released from London’s Wormwood Scrubs prison last week after serving 29 days of a 14 week sentence for violating his probation, brandishing a certificate showing he was free of drugs.
It’s not the first time Doherty and his cats have hit the headlines – in September last year, he was criticized for appearing to force a kitten to smoke crack from a specially-modified pipe.

The welfare fund set up to help troubled rocker Pete Doherty cope upon his release from prison on Tuesday only managed to raise a paltry $34.20.
The Babyshambles frontman was jailed for 14 weeks on April 8th for “breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his (probation) order and using different drugs”.
Stefano Passantino, the founder of British clothing company Lastseason.com, set up a fund to help the star get his life back in order after he was freed – donating all the proceeds from stripey T-shirts sold on the firm’s website.
Doherty won an early release from London’s Wormwood Scrubs Prison on Tuesday, but Passantino admits his campaign failed to get much of a response from the star’s fans.
He says, “Sales have been somewhat disappointing – we only sold six stripey tops. We had planned to do a big presentation and get a big cheque made up, but it seems pointless for a mere 17 quid and change. I wish Pete better luck selling records.”
Passantino has sent a cheque for the amount to Doherty’s management, which is expected to be forwarded to an undisclosed charity.
