Ryan Seacrest came to the defense of Paula Abdul Wednesday during American Idol’s live results show.

Addressing Tuesday’s broadcast when Paula critiqued Jason Castro’s second song before he performed it, Ryan spoke up to put an end to gossip about his costar. (Paula defended herself earlier, calling the awkward moment an “honest mistake” on Ryan’s KIIS-FM radio show.)

“Last night the judges were thrown a curve ball on the air, which is just part of a live show,” Ryan said from the stage while a nervous-looking Paula watched from the judges’ panel. “But it sparked a lot of gossip about Paula. And I read some of this online this morning and just for the record, the rumors — they’re not true. She’s part of our family and we love her.”

Paula looked touched as the audience clapped and both Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell gave her a kiss on the cheek, which prompted Ryan to joke, “I think Simon still wants to hook up with her.”

Paula Abdul says she just got confused on Tuesday’s American Idol when she critiqued two songs by contestant Jason Castro (when he’d only sung one).

In an interview on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Wednesday, she blamed the gaffe on a change in judging.

For the first time in seven years, she said judges were asked to wait to critique contestants until all five had performed (normally, each contestant gets feedback as soon as they’ve finished their song).

Abdul said she first heard about the change when the show went live.

“I go, ‘We have never had to do this before … Oh my God, what do we do?’” she told Seacrest.

“We were freaking out,” Abdul added. “I said, ‘We’re gonna need paper and a pen to make sure we remember what we saw.’”

So she jotted down some notes.

When it came time to give Castro her feedback, she said, “I started looking at what I’m writing… I was reading the critique of what I was writing for Jason Castro….”

On the same page: Her notes for contestant David Cook, which she thought were for a second song Castro had performed.

“I got lost in my notes, and that is as simple as it was,” she said. “It’s so confusing.

“We were all discombobulated,” she added. “It was just crazy, that’s all.”

American Idol judge Paula Abdul is struggling to work alongside her fellow panelist Simon Cowell, because she is harboring a secret crush for the music mogul.

The Grammy-winning singer/choreographer admits she subconsciously fancies the British star – dubbed TV’s Mr Nasty – even though she finds his sharp-tongued comments hard to take. The 44-year-old says, “Just when you think we’re all getting on, Simon turns and we get back into our little quarrels. I suppose it’s quite funny to watch, but he’s so infuriating.”

“Maybe ( I fancy Cowell). Subconsciously. In a really weird, Freudian way. We have a good work balance. We’ve all had moments where we’ve walked off because of Simon, but he’s even walked off because of himself.”

Singer Paula Abdul has been snubbed by music channel MTV – after it refused to play her new single Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.

The American Idol judge shot to fame in the late 1980′s with exceptional dance routines to tunes including Straight Up and Opposites Attract. And despite fellow Idol judge Randy Jackson pitching in ideas for the video, critics have branded Abdul’s dance routines “recycled”, following its premiere on the talent show last month.

An MTV spokesman tells MSNBC.com, “There are currently no plans to play the video.”

American Idol judge Paula Abdul was shocked to discover a fan photographing her over a toilet cubicle partition. The singer said that she couldn’t believe that the nervous fan didn’t think there was anything wrong with invading her personal bathroom space, so she instructed her to never do it again.

She says, “I was mortified and she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. I honestly was weirded out by that and she was so nervous that she thought I wouldn’t even notice. And I was like, ‘No, no, that’s not cool.’ I said to her, ‘A real good tip – don’t do that to anyone else.”

Paula Abdul, who was a big hit in the 90′s, with hits like “Forever Your Girl” and “Straight Up”, has a new song will fellow American Idol judge Randy Jackson. The song is called, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” and she had the song pre-taped for the Superbowl pre-show.

Paula has said that a plane mishap has kept her out of the musical arena for over a decade.

Now, she speaks of getting back in the game, “Everything felt right. The song was amazing,” said Abdul, who added that she just finished a video for the song: “I’m dancing — wait to you see me,” she said. “I’m doing things that you won’t believe, that I don’t even believe.”
