Before Michelle Monaghan went public with news that she’s pregnant with her first child, her Made of Honor costar, Patrick Dempsey was already aware of her condition.

“It was a big secret, and I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone, but I knew Michelle was pregnant, and I am thrilled for her,” Dempsey, 42, told People on Friday – as he prepared to race this weekend in the Six Hours of the Glen Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York.

“She will be a great mom because she has a good head on her shoulders, a fine husband, and overall, she is a lovely woman,” he said.

Dempsey, who with wife Jillian has 18-month-old twin sons (Darby and Sullivan), and a 6-year-old daughter (Talula), gave Monaghan, 32, some advice on being a first- time parent.

“I told Michelle she may not see it now, but her life will change profoundly after she delivers the baby,” he recounts. “I told her being a parent is a feeling that she will not understand until she actually has the child.”

Dempsey, who races as often as his acting schedule allows – he’s due to report back to the set of Grey’s Anatomy June 25 – is looking forward to one day bringing his entire family to the racetrack with him.

“Jillian always tells me to be careful when I leave the house for a race,” says Dempsey, who is competing for the first time at Watkins Glen International. “It is hard to leave the family on weekends because I love spending time with the kids, but I also love to race. I count the days until they can come with me, and we can all be here together.”

Did Patrick Dempsey go commando for the big screen?

Yes! Sort of.

The McDreamy doc dons a mini-kilt in a scene in his latest rom-com Made of Honor and reveals he tried his best to follow the upstanding Scottish tradition of wearing nada underneath.

“For a short time [I was],” he tells AOL. “I tried it out and I realized that this is not the kilt I want to be doing that in. Yeah, I didn’t need to show that.”

Unfortunately for fans, it may be a while before Patrick will try it again as he must scrub up for Grey’s Anatomy. With the season finale fast approaching on May 22, the 42-year-old star drops some hints as to what the future holds for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek.

“I have like a rainbow color of pages in front of me that I’m trying to put together in my script, and I just got to the final scene. And it’s a beautiful scene where we get back together,” he says. “It’s really quite something. It’s unexpected, I think, the way it plays itself out. It kind of gets back to the essence of what made this show so great.”

Calling it a “good” decision by creator Shonda Rhimes to rekindle the achy lovebirds’ relationship, Patrick hopes the storyline will keep viewers’ interest well into next season – the show’s fifth.

“I hope we just keep entertaining people. I think that’s the key here,” he says. “And hopefully, we don’t get stuck in a rut and we don’t repeat ourselves. I just want the show to keep moving forward and hopefully stay fresh.”

Hollywood heartthrob Patrick Dempsey almost quit acting before he landed his comeback role in hit TV series Grey’s Anatomy - because he was fed up with losing parts as a result of his dyslexia.
The actor made a name for himself in the 1980s starring in movies like Loverboy and Can’t Buy Me Love, but his career faltered in the 1990s and he found himself constantly looking for his next big role.

But, despite attending numerous auditions, he kept losing out to his contemporaries because his disability left him struggling to easily read scripts.

And the 42-year-old had just given up trying to build a career in Hollywood when he landed the part of surgeon Dr. Derek ‘MCDreamy’ Shepherd in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.

He says, “Because of my dyslexia I had to memorise all the dialogue for auditions. If I forgot it, I would then have to get over my frustration. If you constantly don’t get the part it’s very frustrating.”

Erin and I went and saw Patrick Dempsey’s new movie, “Made of Honor” last night.  I have to say - it was enjoyable - I might even say good!  There were very cheesy - predictable scenes, but overall, I’d give it two thumbs up.

I also would like to give Mr. Dempsey’s chest two thumbs up.  The man is smokin hot in this movie.  I kinda like the bad-boy thing.  He usually plays such sappy “Mr. Charming” roles.  I’m quite certain I’ll love anything he does.  He just has this charisma - this cuteness… he’s great.

McDreamy may not know how to make a marriage last on Grey’s Anatomy — but Patrick Dempsey sure does!

“Love, humor and communication — those are the bedrocks of a good relationship,” the Versace-clad Dempsey, 42, told Usmagazine.com Monday at the NYC premiere of his wedding-themed romantic comedy Made of Honor.

He plays a compulsive womanizer in the comedy, but he insisted the character’s “nothing like me at all — I’m married and have kids!”

Of wife Jillian, the father-of-three said, “She’s immensely supportive. Without her, I wouldn’t be here.”

So does Dempsey — who recently revealed he has pec envy — have any funny memories from their 1999 nuptials?

“The photographers were just drunk and never got a good picture!” he joked.

Patrick Dempsey discovered fame has its benefits after escaping a speeding ticket in Hollywood when a traffic cop recognised him as the star of Grey’s Anatomy.

The hunky star was racing to get to an interview on time when a cop pulled him over. But he discovered that driving a Porsche GT3RS and starring in a top TV show can get you out of a lot of trouble.

He recalls, “The cop was really cool. He said, ‘At least you’re driving the Porsche properly’. He said ‘Oh, I know you!’ and I got out of it.”
