Paris Hilton has hit out at critics of Britney Spears, insisting she can party and still be a good mother. The pair has rapidly become bosom buddies, and are regularly spotted out on the town together in Los Angeles and Las Vegas – prompting some to question the time Spears dedicates to her one-year-old son Sean Preston and three month old Jayden James.

But Hilton writes on her MySpace.com page, “Lately, you’ve been seeing pics of me and Britney partying (blah blah) and she knows that some of her fans are very upset about what they call her ‘behavior’ and sadly they’re blaming the issue on her being friends with me.

“For people to call out her parenting skills on behalf of her partying ethics is appalling. Britney loves her kids to death, and I know for a fact that it truly hurts her when she sees these cruel things being written about her. She goes home every night to her babies and partying has not come in the way of her parenting.

“Anyone who has called her out on this should really be ashamed. There are thousands of mothers out there who like to go out and have a good time. But, you do not see people out there calling them ‘bad parents.’ She’s young, and if she wants to go out and have some fun, let her. Just because she does these things does not mean she doesn’t care about her children. For the sake of Britney and her kids, be kind. Love, Paris”

Paris Hilton has put her feud with her The Simple Life co-star Nicole Richi firmly behind her, insisting they are “friends forever now”.

The childhood pals mysteriously fell out in January 2005 after a life-long friendship, but they made up after holding a reconciliation dinner in Los Angeles in October, and Hilton insists their reunion is permanent.

She gushes, “We’ve been friends for 23 years of our lives and when you’ve known someone that long she’s like a sister. I’m really happy to have her back in my life. I love her to death! We’re definitely friends forever now.” “She’s amazing. Nicole has a great personality, she’s beautiful and sweet, and she’s fun to hang out with. She’s hysterical – she can make me laugh so hard!”

After nearly a week of clubbing, partying and shopping in LA with new BFF, Paris Hilton, Us has learned exclusively that Britney Spears has abruptly pulled out of co-hosting with the heiress on the Fox Billboard Music Awards, scheduled to air live on December 4.

“She pulled out,” confirms a source with Fox. “She didn’t give a reason.”

The source tells Us that Hilton is still a possible host despite losing Spears as a sidekick. Other sources confirm that as recent as this morning, agents for both Hilton and Spears were hashing out the final terms of the contract, but at 5pm today, Spears had backed out of negotiations.

“We really don’t know the reason. But we’re disappointed she backed out.” says a Fox source.

The source says the show may go on with Hilton as solo host, or it may feature comedian (and Fox sitcom star) Brad Garrett, given he’s at the top of the show producer’s wish list.

At press time, neither Hilton or Spears’ reps were available for comment.

New best friends Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are taking their act onstage: The pair will co-host next week’s Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

“There are no plans for either to perform, but they will host the event together,” says a show source. “They’ll be fun onstage together.”

Among those performing will be Janet Jackson – who will open the show – Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige, Ludacris, and the Fray. Carrie Underwood, Carmen Electra, Dave Navarro, Vanessa Minnillo, and Katharine McPhee are among the celebs making special appearances.

Finalists are expected to be announced shortly.

The 2006 Billboard Music Awards will air live on FOX Monday at 8 p.m. ET from Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Spears, who turns 25 on Saturday, is quickly establishing Las Vegas as her second home: She’s also confirmed to host a New Year’s Eve party at Pure Nightclub, a club spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE Tuesday.

It’s also the city where she and Hilton first forged their newfound friendship. Earlier this month, the pair met up and partied in Las Vegas, before doing more club-hopping in Los Angeles over Thanksgiving weekend.
