Hollywood’s on-again, off-again couple – Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson – are on yet again.

“They’re back together,” a source tells PEOPLE of the pair, who spent all of Sunday together at Wilson’s Malibu home. Also there: Hudson’s 5-year-old son Ryder.

Hudson, 29, and Wilson, 40, were most recently linked in Feb. 2008, where they appeared cozy at the Academy Awards last year. The two continued to hang out for several months – even celebrating Hudson’s birthday in Miami – before breaking up again in May 2008.

“It was a pretty bad breakup,” a friend of Wilson’s told PEOPLE at the time. “Owen said it was a tough one. He definitely doesn’t want to dwell on it. He wants to put it behind him.”

The two began dating originally in Sept. 2006, after filming You, Me and Dupree together. They later split in June 2007, but remained “friends” at the time, a source told PEOPLE.

Jennifer Aniston is praising Owen Wilson for being “so divine” in Marley & Me.

The comedy — out Dec. 25 — is based on a book of John Grogan’s newspaper columns about life with his wife, their children and their pet dog.

“I’ve never seen him play a part like this,” Aniston tells the Los Angeles Times. “He was a man; he was a husband; he was a father.”

Referring to his 2007 suicide attempt, she adds, “And I feel like, how brave of him, to walk through the year that he walked through.” (Marley & Me was Wilson’s first film since he tried to take his life.)

Aniston wasn’t so warm about one of her other co-stars — a yellow lab named Clyde.

“I walked onto the set and put my sweater and my bag down on the couch, and that dog leapt up onto the couch, grabbed my sweater and started ripping it,” she recalls. “They said, ‘Good, good boy!’ and gave him treats. The set was a toy.”

She says she was apprehensive about doing the film at first (three people, including her father, had given her the book for Christmas).

“I thought, ‘This isn’t a book I’m going to sit down and read, because it’s got a dog on the cover,’” she says. “I don’t know why I had that weird prejudice against it.”

When she saw the script, “I was like, ‘Uck, a dog movie?’” she recalls. After reading it, she changed her mind.

“It’s so much more than a dog movie – it’s this beautiful portrait of a marriage and this 15-year span between these two people and this sweet little unconditionally loving creature that sort of walks through it with them.”

She has played pregnant characters before – but this is her first role as a wife and mother.

Director David Frankel (Devil Wears Prada) asked her not to prepare in advance.

“I said, ‘You’re the boss, I’m your actor, so let’s go,’” she says. “It was all on the page. There was really nothing to do, except be.”

Owen Wilson is saying “aloha” to island living. When the 39-year-old actor spent a week visiting good pal Woody Harrelson in Maui starting on August 7, he fell in love with the tropical paradise — and the environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Woody lives in a completely solar-powered, sustainable community featuring organic farming. “It’s 100 percent green living,” says an insider. “Owen likes it so much that he made an offer on a home there.” Owen’s 2004 film, The Big Bounce, was set in Hawaii.

Since Kate Hudson split from Lance Armstrong, she’s been speed-dialing Owen, her boyfriend before Lance. And sources tell Star the Marley & Me actor is taking her calls!

“He was frosty at first,” says one insider. “He felt betrayed when she dumped him for his friend Lance. But after a while, he caved in and has been sweet to her.”

Friends worry that Owen, who tried to commit suicide in 2007 after splitting from Kate the first time, will once again fall under the single mom’s spell.

Adds a source, “It’s not fair to Owen, because he really cares for her and ends up getting hurt.”

Actor-turned-director Ben Stiller is convinced no one can help Owen Wilson overcome his personal problems – because it is hard to understand his emotional anguish.

Wilson was hospitalized last year after allegedly slashing his wrists at his home in Santa Monica, California.

And Stiller, a close friend of the funnyman, admits that his pal is battling depression – and it is hard for his family and friends to empathise with what he is going through.

He says, “It’s impossible to understand that kind of pain – depression or anything like that – until you’re in it. I love Owen. I felt bad that he had to deal with all the outside bulls**t.”

Tropic Thunder director and star Ben Stiller has opened up about pal Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt last August.

“It’s impossible to understand that kind of pain – depression or anything like that – until you’re in it,” Stiller tells Playboy in the August issue of the magazine.

“I love Owen,” he says of his Royal Tenenbaums co-star. “I felt bad that he had to deal with all the outside bulls–t.”

Stiller, 42, also reveals that he was “blown away” by Tropic Thunder co-star Robert Downey Jr.

“I started trying to copy him,” the comic says. “It was like, ‘Wow, this guy’s a genius; maybe if I do what he does, I’ll be a genius too!’”

Stiller jokes: “If he had spun around and thrown oat bran at the moon, I’d have run out, bought some oat bran and started spinning. I want to look like I’m as big a genius as he is.”

Tom Cruise’s anticipated role as a studio chief – for which he wore a fat suit – in Tropic Thunder was his own idea, Stiller says.

“It wasn’t even in the script,” Stiller says. “I didn’t have to persuade him.”

The actor tells Playboy that “people would rather dwell on somebody else’s problems than look at their own” – and revealed he’s just like Us!

“Do I want to pick up a copy of U.S. News & World Report or grab Us Weekly?” he asks. “If I’m in a checkout line, I’ll take the one with the big pictures.”

So is there a line of humiliation that the jokester won’t consider?

“I think I’d draw the line at porn, but no one has asked,” Stiller tells Playboy.

Tropic Thunder opens August 13.
