Tom Cruise didn’t jump on Oprah’s couch this time around

Tom Cruise couch jumping on Oprah

Tom Cruise’s couch jumping days are over.

The actor, 45, filmed the second-part of his Oprah Winfrey interview in her Chicago studio Thursday, the Associated Press reports.

“He was really calm and collected,” said Diane Andonovski of Toronto, Canada.

During show breaks, Cruise even talked to audience members and seemed “so sweet and so sincere,” Sally Maddy of Duluth, Minn., said. “He’s even cuter in person.”

Cruise was joined by immediate and extended family members, including wife Katie Holmes and their daughter Suri, who just turned 2, audience member Jenny Hume of England said.

He appeared on the show in honor of the 25th anniversary of his break-out film Risky Business. His friends and colleagues — including David and Victoria Beckham, Dustin Hoffman and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett — also appear on the show.

Part one of Winfrey’s interview — taped from his family’s home in Telluride, Colo. — airs this afternoon.

He is expected to open up about whether he thinks he has come under attack unnecessarily and how he has been accepted by his Holmes’ family, as well as his infamous Matt Lauer interview.

Tom Cruise’s appearance on Oprah will be in two parts

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has got so much to say about life, faith and love, his upcoming re-appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show has been split into two.

The actor will show the talk show queen around his sprawling Telluride, Colorado estate during one segment, which will air in on Friday.

He will return to the Chicago, Illinois TV set, where he made his now-famous couch-jumping proclamation of love to then-fiancee Katie Holmes, for an indepth interview that will be aired on Monday.

The smitten star made a spectacle of himself with his loved-up antics on the talk show in 2005.

The two shows have been arranged to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Cruise’s breakout movie, Risky Business.

Leona Lewis credits Oprah for her success

leona_lewis022008.jpg

Leona Lewis has Oprah Winfrey to thank for her recent U.S. chart success - because it was the TV titan’s overwhelming support that helped her single Bleeding Love soar to the top of the charts, according to bosse at her record label.

The former winner of British reality TV show The X Factor made history last week by securing the coveted number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart - making her the first U.K. female solo artist to achieve the feat in over 20 years.

Lewis embarked on a massive promotional campaign in America prior to the single’s release, and most notably appeared on Winfrey’s show, Oprah, to rave reviews from the talk show queen. And bosses at the star’s record label Sony BMG insist winning the support of Winfrey was the key to chart dominance.

Sony BMG U.K. International Vice President Dave Shack says, “Oprah was lighting the touch paper to rocket Leona beyond the likes of Usher to number one. “It gave the platform it (the single) needed and it feels really, really good. We’re all excited about where it leads to the album.” Lewis’ debut LP Spirit is released in the U.S. on April 8th.

Kirstie Alley signs deal with Oprah Winfrey

Kirstie Alley

Kirstie Alley has signed a deal with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions to develop television projects — which could include her own daily show.

“Kirstie is a tremendous talent who is incredibly relatable and a true fan favorite,” said Tim Bennett, president of Harpo Productions.

The actress, 57, recently stepped away from her role as an official spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, and announced plans to launch her own weigh-loss brand.

Alley, who notably modeled a bikini The Oprah Winfrey Show after losing 75 lbs., said she hopes her willingness to be honest and open will come together to help her “offer something totally fresh for the television audience.”

Is Marie Osmond the next Oprah?

Marie Osmond

Actor Owen Wilson will return to work next month, filming Marley & Me with co-star Jennifer Aniston in Miami, his The new cast of Dancing with the Stars will be revealed tonight, but who can forget last season’s most-talked about names, especially one Marie Osmond?

The entertainer, who finished a surprising third on the program, joined fellow alum Cameron Mathison for an interview in which the soap star asked if she would participate in a Dancing All-Stars show?

“Only if you do it,” she says.

One person who won’t be doing any Dancing of any kind is her brother Donny, who was long-speculated to have made the DWTS shortlist for this season. “They are rumors,” Marie says.

Don’t expect Donny on Marie’s upcoming daytime talk show either. Although they have teamed up for two versions of Donny and Marie in the past three decades, Marie says she’ll be on her own for The Marie Osmond Show, launching in 2009.

“The problem is Donny’s not very articulate…If he were there, it’d be a different kind of talk show,” she laughs.

So can we expect Marie to dethrone Oprah Winfrey as the Queen of Talk?

“Absolutely not,” she says. “Oprah’s amazing. [She] brings perspective but our hearts are similar because she does all her charity.”

The 48-year-old, who lost 40 lbs during her Dancing days, also discussed growing up in show business — past and present.

“The difference is that our homes were more solid [back then] so we had a place to fall back on. So, that’s what’s concerning. These kids [current celebrities] don’t have that stability. They’re kind of raising each other.”

Dr. Phil to welcome Oprah Winfrey as a guest on February 11th’s show

Dr. Phil McGraw

I don’t know how true this is, but a source is saying that Dr. “Opportunity” Phil McGraw is going to have Oprah Winfrey on his show as a special guest for the February 11th show. The show is special because it will mark McGraw’s 1,000th episode of “helping” people.

The self-help “guru” started his TV career with a weekly spot on Oprah.
