Susan Boyle’s brother fears for her safety

FP_IMAGE_4116853/FP_SET_4114972

Susan Boyle’s brother is petrified his famous sister will be assassinated like Beatles legend John Lennon, after the singer found an intruder inside her home.

The Scottish sensation called cops after returning to her house in West Lothian, Scotland on Tuesday to find a man roaming around the property.

It was Boyle’s second security scare in two months – late last year she spotted two strangers in her garden.

Now her sibling, John Boyle, is demanding bosses at Boyle’s management company increase her security before a maniac tries to attack her.

He says, “I am very upset about the lack of security. Her management company are too busy counting the money Susan has made them to consider her safety. The family have told them several times that vast improvements need to be made to avoid something like this happening.

“This is the second time something has happened to Susan at her home and it is extremely worrying. Susan is a massive world star and needs better protection. You look at what happened to John Lennon in New York – it’s really worrying.”

But the singer insists the intrusion won’t cause her to move house. She says, “I’m not going anywhere – nobody’s pushing me out of my house. I’m absolutely fine but it was very concerning for everyone. I think (the suspect) got more of a scare than I did because he ran off. The matter is in hand. The police have been excellent.”

Lennon was assassinated outside his home in New York City by crazed fan Mark Chapman in 1980.

Justin Bieber reveals his secret: He shakes it

FP_IMAGE_4384814/FP_SET_4379350

It may be an understatement to say that overnight teen sensation Justin Bieber makes girls go gaga. But luckily for them, the feeling is mutual.

“I just really love girls!” the 15-year-old told Atlanta’s WWWQ-Q100 99.7, where the first question he received from a female caller was, “Will you marry me?”

When it comes to creating his signature shaggy look, the young idol revealed, “After I have [a] shower, I blow dry my hair and just shake it and it goes like that” – which prompted the caller to reply: “I love it when you shake it!”

“I could say the same thing about Beyoncé,” Bieber said.

Despite the female attention from his new-found fame, Bieber said he hasn’t been on a date in about three years. Asked to describe the type of girl who catches his eye, Bieber, who lives in Atlanta, said he’s partial to “nice eyes and a nice smile, a girl that can make me laugh, because everybody likes to laugh.”

There was no shortage of laughter when Bieber performed his take on another YouTube sensation: Larry Platt, whose American Idol audition of a song called “Pants on the Ground” has gone viral.

“I don’t have the awesome dance moves that [Platt] has, though,” Bieber noted.

Fans still have the chance to have Bieber perform personally for them, as his Golden Ticket contest – first prize is an in-home show by Bieber, second prize a costarring role in a video with him – remains up for grabs. The winning ticket is to be found in one of his yet-to-be-purchased My World CDs.

Susan Boyle dreams about a boyfriend

63528EW_BOYLE_B-GR_02

Susan Boyle’s hit album and adoring fans gives her plenty to smile about, but Susan opened up to OK! about some less happy moments and how she’s now dreaming about finding her heart’s duet.

Why are people fascinated by you?
Put it this way: A woman who went on Britain’s Got Talent with mad hair, bushy eyebrows and the frock I was wearing had to be noticed. Come on! I know it’s a cliché, but it’s a bit of a Cinderella story.

Was it hard, dealing with instant fame?
I went from being an unknown to headlines like “The Hairy Angel.” The pressure was suffocating.

In fact, you checked into London’s Priory Clinic, a mental health facility….
After the finale, I went there with extreme exhaustion. I’ve never felt so tired, but I look back on it now and it was a necessity. I wanted to get a break, without all the cameras.

Do you like America?
I went to L.A. and there were great crowds waiting for us at the airport — it was quite something. The hotel I was staying in, apparently Frank Sinatra used to take his women back there! Talk about “Strangers in the Night,” eh?

You’ve undergone quite a transformation, as of late….
I brush up quite well! I keep reading that I’ve had Botox and teeth whitening but I haven’t! I’ve been working hard to lose a bit of weight, which has been good.

What about a boyfriend?
What a laugh. There was a TV company that wanted to set me up. Apparently he was nice, but I’ve got my living to do now.

So what do you dream about these days?
I dream about security, about one day finding the right person and continuing to make people happy with my music. My advice to those who dare to dream is don’t give up. If I can do it, anyone else can.

David Archuleta Shares His “Melodies of Christmas”

81207W1_ARCHULETA_B_GR_06

Us Weekly’s music editor, Ian Drew, talks with David Archuleta about his heartfelt holiday album!

American Idol alum David Archuleta loves Christmas — so much so that he decided to follow up his self-titled debut album with Christmas From the Heart.

The Season 7 runner-up, 18, talks to Usmagazine.com about the motivation behind his sophomore CD, what inspired him to write a brand-new Christmas song and his recommendations for your holiday party playlist!

Why did you decide to record a Christmas album?
For me, Christmas music has always been such a big time in my life. Ever since I was little, I was just into Christmas music. We used to go around Christmas caroling with Santa hats on, and I did that whole thing, and it was really fun… That’s always been my time to sing. Now it’s like, ‘Whoa! The songs that I’ve been singing every year since I was a little kid — now I get to make an album?’

What has the experience been like?
I never imagined that I would be able to really do a Christmas album like this, to this extent, where I have my own arrangements of these songs that I’ve been singing. It’s just so cool. And it’s like, ‘Wow, no one else sings it this way except for me, and it’s on an album and it’s released.’ It’s just really amazing to see that from where I would sing acapella when I was little at retirement homes and hospitals and neighbor’s houses to now being able to put them on an album.

How did you choose the songs?
Some of them were songs that I’ve sung or I used to sing. So that’s what’s cool. And [the producers] went to Prague for some of these arrangements to have a Prague orchestra, and it was just so cool. It’s just exciting to have some of the songs like “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “O Holy Night.” Just those songs — that’s what I grew up singing.

What inspired “Melodies of Christmas,” the song you wrote yourself?
It sums up what I feel Christmas music can do for people. It talks about how all the different melodies of Christmas bring back memories. When people hear Christmas songs, it reminds them of things. It reminds me of having dinner with my family, just celebrating opening presents and this family trip that we had during the holidays.

Which songs from your Christmas album are a must for any holiday party playlist?
The Trans-Siberian orchestra song. I love that one. It’s so big and powerful.

How do you spend Christmas?
We actually used to put on some Christmas shows with me and my brothers and sisters and cousins, and we used to just go out and bike at retirement homes and hospitals and just put on shows for people who might feel kind of left out and forgotten about because they’re in the hospital or places where they might be alone. For the actual holiday, usually we’ll go to my grandpa’s, but we went to Las Vegas last year. We went to get away because I had not been home all year, and I’d just been so busy with so many different things. It was finally my break to be back with my family. It’s so important to spend time with the people you care about.

What are your favorite Christmas albums to give as gifts?
Mariah Carey is great. She’s an amazing singer and has such a big voice. My mom listened to Celine Dion a lot when I was little. I always heard Natalie Cole’s “The First Noel,” too. She’d sing that a lot. Natalie Cole was a big influence!

NEXT TWO ENTRANTS WILL WIN – FINAL DAY!

img_8567.jpg

You don’t always know where the road will take you. This is certainly true of Ben Sigston. An ex-Canadian National Team cyclist, Ben turned to music after a university athletic scholarship went awry.

Growing up in North Vancouver, Ben spent most of his time training in the fresh mountain air. After a few successes, including a World Cup win, Sigston was awarded an athletic scholarship to a mid-western US university. However, not long after attending, his life blew apart.

Within a few months, a pressure-filled environment, punishing physical training and two near death experiences took their toll, leading Sigston to some serious soul searching and an alteration in course. “It seemed evident to me that I had to change my circumstances,” Ben says “I jumped on a plane and went back to Vancouver. I quit biking, sold all of my gear, and used the money to buy a guitar.”

img_9938.jpg

This abrupt life change wasn’t as random as it might appear, as Sigston had been heavily influenced by music his entire life. He began piano lessons at the age of five, followed by the drums. There was always music in the house – the Beatles, Bob Dylan, as well as his dad’s own band, holding practices in the basement.

In fact, in Ben’s world, music and athleticism have always been inextricably intertwined. When his focus shifted to music, lyrics and sound became his outlet. Instead of training away his frustrations and emotions, Ben began to write about them.

 ben_s.jpg

Over the last seven years, Ben has been relentlessly pursuing and refining his writing process. His music is filled with juxtapositions that compare and contrast thoughts, feelings and reflections.

“For me, music is so powerful. It’s a way to see into a situation or an experience that can be related to individually. It’s the artist’s job to internalize an even and then to recreate it…to express it.”

Whether expressing simple ideas, or wide-ranging thoughts, Sigston has an uncanny ability to convey himself through the melody of song. His music successfully cuts through the noise of modern existence, and extracts simple, universal truths: hope, love, redemption and the search for meaning.

Ben’s debut EP Free Now (available on iTunes — check it out!) features 8 amazing songs, and is the product of five years of writing and over 150 songs. ICYDK has three autographed CDs to give away. Simply be one of the first three to email ICYDK and correctly indentify what kind of scholarship Ben had for university.

Listen to Ben perform live on 100.5 The PEAK Thursday, Sept 10 at 3:15pm (Pacific).

If you’re in Vancouver, come on down to The Media Club (695 Cambie St) and see Ben perform Thursday, Sept 10. Doors at 8pm. It’ll be an awesome show!!!
