Miranda Kerr recently revealed that she was initially “reluctant” to begin a relationship with her now-husband Orlando Bloom. She confessed she originally turned down the actor when he tried to date her because she hated the idea of dating a movie star.

The couple began dating in 2007, and married shortley before becoming parents to their son Flynn in January, 2011.

She tells Australian TV program Sunday Night, “I was reluctant – not about him, but the idea of that (him being a movie star)… I think it was his persistence (that won me over). Maybe he wanted me because he thought he couldn’t have me.”

During the interview, Kerr also spoke about her painful natural birth, revealing she resisted the urge to take any painkillers during her labour, but her husband wasn’t quite as brave.

She explains, “I had made the decision to not have any drugs, no epidural, nothing… I remember looking at Orlando and saying ‘Oh honey’… And he said, ‘Give me the epidural! Seriously, if you don’t want it I’ll take it because right now I’m dying watching you go through this pain’. I didn’t realise (Flynn) was going to be such a big baby.”

InStyle has today revealed an Australian newsstand magazine exclusive, with Australian supermodel and entrepreneur Miranda Kerr posing for her very first newsstand magazine cover shoot and interview following the birth of her child, Flynn Bloom.

“She’s the girl next door who has done extremely well and we hope our readers love what she has to say as she opens up to InStyle following the arrival of her gorgeous son,” says Kerrie McCallum, editor, InStyle.

Miranda Kerr reveals to InStyle:

“I was working 18-hour days. Now the pace has slowed so I can spend the majority of my time with Flynn—we have a bath together every night.” Kerr is now “first a wife and a mother, and then comes work,” she explains. “When I work, it needs to be the best decision for us as a family.”

Was there pressure to “bounce back”, as some of her seemingly elastic Victoria’s Secret colleagues had done before her? Kerr considers the question. Then answers with, “He’s a big baby, 4.5 kilograms at birth, and I thought to myself, I have so much more that I want to do aside from modelling. I can live with my body not being in shape if I have a healthy son. It’s worth it.”

Might a permanent return to Oz be on the cards for Kerr? “I like to think [so]. Flynn would love it, and I had such a wonderful childhood in the country. He is going to have a diverse upbringing.”

On giving birth, Kerr says, “I’ve never been through so much pain, but I was totally present the entire time, focusing on my breath and meditating,” she says. “I kept thinking, how do women do this? But if other women have done this, I can do it, too. I was determined.

“I actually thought I was going to die at one point and left my body. I felt as if I was looking down on myself – the pain was so intense. Then he came out and we met, and it was the best thing. I think once you go through something like that, nothing else fazes you – it puts everything into perspective.” Kerr later revealed to US talk show host Conan O’Brien that she wouldn’t let Bloom leave the room while she was in labour, even making him pee in a bottle.

“Orlando was by my side the whole time,” she smiles. “I couldn’t have done it without him. Just to have his support was a really wonderful experience.”

I like how she’s just putting up with this body of hers. How in the world does she put up with not “bouncing back”!? But hey, she’s dealing with it – for her son. She’s so brave.

On the 6th of January I gave birth to our beautiful little son Flynn. We cherish him. He weighed 9lb 12 ounces (a very healthy and big baby boy). I gave birth to him naturally; without drugs or painkillers and it was a long, arduous and difficult labour, but Orlando was with me the whole time supporting and guiding me through it. I could not have done it without him.
