Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has denied claims that she attempted to get ex-boyfriend Milo Ventimiglia axed from the NBC show.
The actress, who plays Claire Bennet, was reported to have wanted Ventimiglia, who portrays her on-screen uncle Peter Petrelli, kicked off the drama following their split last month.
However, speaking to OK!, the 19-year-old dismissed the rumours, saying: “Milo and I are very close. We have enjoyed and continue to enjoy working together.”
Meanwhile, show creator Tim Kring has assured fans that the relationship between Panettiere and Ventimiglia would not affect how he developed storylines for the rest of the season.
“The final decision about which characters live and die on Heroes rests with me,” he insisted. “I’ve made no announcement yet as to who will return and who won’t.”

Heroes costars Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia have called it quits, Usmagazine.com has learned. “It was a lifestyle conflict,” a source close to the couple tells Us, adding that the split happened within the last week. “They were in very different places.” Adds the insider, “They are still on friendly terms. There are no hard feelings.”
The source tells Us that Panettiere, 19, “is young. She likes to go out in the Hollywood scene and that’s not his style.” Ventimiglia, 31, “has been concentrating on work on his production company [Divide Pictures],” the source adds. The two, who began dating in 2008, had been an open secret for months – in part because of their 12-year age gap.

Milo Ventimiglia turned pit photographer on Saturday to capture girlfriend Hayden Panettiere’s latest allstar gig.
The actor urged event snappers to concentrate on his teenage girlfriend and not him as he tried to get shots of Panettiere’s concert with Band From TV.
One fellow snapper tells WENN, “He told us, `I’m just one of you guys tonight.’”
The actress performed with Heroes co-stars Greg Grunberg and Adrian Pasdar, James Denton and House castmates Jesse Spencer and Hugh Laurie, who all make up Band From TV.
Denton’s Desperate Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher also sang with the band at the outdoor concert at the Autry National Center of The American West.
