R. Kelly’s defense attorney has publicly apologized to teen actress Miley Cyrus for using her name at his client’s child pornography trial.
The singer - real name Robert Kelly - was acquitted of 14 counts of child pornography in a Chicago, Illinois on Friday.
During the closing arguments of the trial, lawyer Sam Adam Jr. had used Hannah Montana star Cyrus to explain how teenagers gossip in a bid to prove the sex act his client was accused of didn’t happen.
He told the jury: “This wasn’t a gardener or the man down the street or a janitor. This was a 13-year-old girl having sex with a superstar, and she doesn’t tell anyone? She doesn’t let it slip to her best friend? Never? Not anyone? You can’t keep a 13-year-old’s mouth closed over Hannah Montana tickets, but this?”
But Adam has since apologized for using Cyrus as an example.
He tells MTV.com, “Miley Cyrus woke up this morning (saying), ‘Why me?!’ Hannah Montana is the biggest thing out - no offence, Robert. And to Miley, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring you up, and if you took it negatively, I’m sorry.”
And Adam admits Kelly was unaware of his plan to use Cyrus’ name, adding: “No, I didn’t run it by him. I probably should have. Now that I think about it, I probably should have.”

The creator of hit TV show Hannah Montana has called on the press to leave Miley Cyrus alone - insisting the media is unfairly scrutinizing her life.
Cyrus, 15, shot to international fame on the Disney Channel show, but has been hit by a series of scandals throughout this year.
Most recently, the teen was accused of inappropriately flaunting her body in a controversial Vanity Fair photoshoot.
But Michael Poryes, co-creator and executive producer of the series, insists the media should stop giving Cyrus a hard time, as she is just going through the usual stresses of being a teenager.
He says, “To say the tabloids are paying attention to her is a very kind way of saying it. It becomes like Miley Cyrus bites her finger nails is news at 11. They don’t give her a break for being able to go through the aches and pains of being an adolescent. Everyone has the right to go through being an adolescent. They blow everything out of proportion and a little misstep becomes the biggest tragedy that ever struck mankind.”
And Poryes reveals that everyone involved with the TV show is going out of their way to make Cyrus feel better about herself.
He adds, “The challenge of that is to do our best to make Miley feel - at least in this circle of people - that it’s fine to make mistakes, you’re not going to be judged or scrutinized on set.”

Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus feels the pressure of fame – especially after Vanity Fair published a semi-topless photo of the 15-year-old, according to co-star Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.
“Sometimes I’ll talk to her on the phone and she’ll be like, ‘It’s really hard’ or ‘I’m really tired. I can’t do this,’” Perez de Tagle told E!
“But I’ll always say, ‘You do want to do this. You love your job.’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah,’” the actress added.
The Vanity Fair portrait “really hurt her inside,” said Perez de Tagle. “She didn’t know that people would look at it like that.”
After Cyrus apologized and said she was embarrassed when the photo was released, Bill O’Reilly blamed her dad for putting “her into a situation where she becomes, at 15, a sex symbol.”
Production is under way for the Hannah Montana movie, which hits screens in 2009.

Miley Cyrus came close to quitting showbusiness following the fuss surrounding her provocative Vanity Fair photos, according to her pal and Hannah Montana co-star Anna Maria Perez De Tagle.
The actress, who plays Cyrus’ sidekick Ashley on the hit kids TV show admits she’s had to boost her friend during recent phonecalls - because the teen sensation is so downbeat of late.
The 15-year-old was forced to apologize to fans when a topless shot of her, wrapped in a bedsheet, appeared as part of a Vanity Fair photospread, upsetting family groups and parents across America.
And Perez de Tagle admits the whole controversy has been tough on her friend.
She says, “Sometimes I’ll talk to her on the phone and she’ll be like, ‘It’s really hard’ or ‘I’m really tired. I can’t do this.’ I’ll always say, ‘You do want to do this. You love your job.’ It (photo scandal) really hurt her. She didn’t know that people would look at it like that.”

Miley Cyrus has become the focus of yet another controversy, after a photo agency filed suit against her Disney bosses for copyright infringement in relation to a range of Hannah Montana-branded candies - which feature her face on the packaging.
Bosses at Oklahoma-based company Glamour Shots claim the Hannah Montana Glamour Shots Candy, placed on Disney store shelves, misleads buyers into believing the photo agency made the treats.
The candy is packaged in a small picture frame with Cyrus featured inside.
In court documents obtained by website TMZ.com, Glamour Shots executives have also accused Disney of false advertising and unfair competition, and are requesting the case to go to trial to determine damages.
A spokesperson for Disney declined to comment on the suit.
Cyrus, 15, has become the subject of various debates since her pop star image was tarnished by the release of ’sexy’ images from a controversial photoshoot with Annie Leibovitz for June’s edition of Vanity Fair magazine.
