Teen sensation Miley Cyrus has found herself at the center of a health scandal.
A new report suggests select Hannah Montana-branded merchandise poses a potential risk of lead poisoning to young fans. The findings by researchers at the non-governmental agency the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) caused a stir in the U.S. earlier this week when they were first published.
Researchers purchased a variety of Hannah Montana-related items – including the Girls Rock and Undercover Pop Star backpacks, the Secret Star wallet and the slumber tote – in February and tested the made-in-China products for lead, using “an X-ray fluorescence analyser”. And they claim several items contained above the “federal standard for lead in paint (600 parts per million)”, while others proved to contain “lead concentrations above the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommended level (40 parts per million)” – all of which were found in the “vinyl parts” of the products.
CEH officials are now looking into whether the products are in violation of California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 before deciding whether or not to take action.
A spokesperson from Disney, the company behind the Hannah Montana franchise, has refused to comment directly on the case, but says, “We require all licensed producers of products using Disney characters to test their products and to comply with all applicable product safety laws and standards.”

She may just be starting her career out, but Dolly Parton thinks Miley Cyrus will soon become as iconic as another acting/singing superstar.
“That little Miley Cyrus…she’s like a little Elvis,” Dolly tells AOL.
Though she admits she is slightly biased as 15-year-old Miley is her goddaughter, Dolly still can’t hold back the compliments for the teen star. Of particular note are Miley’s songwriting skills, which she believes can rival those of someone twice her age.
“The kids love her because she’s Hannah Montana, but what people don’t realize about her is she is such a fantastic singer and songwriter,” Dolly says. “She writes songs like she’s 40 years old! She’s really deep.”
Having enjoyed a 40-plus yearlong career, the 62-year-old, who also believes Alison Krauss, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney have what it takes to go all the way, feels Miley is destined for longterm success.
“I think that she’s gonna have a big career after that show is off the air,” Dolly says. “But I’m amazed at the talent that child has and the effect she has on people. And a lot of that ain’t just Disney, a lot of that is Miley.”

Miley Cyrus has admitted that she cried after finding out good friend Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant.
The two teen sensations are good friends having both worked on their respected shows Hannah Montana and Zoey 101.
However, the younger sister of Britney Spears had her program canceled due to the pregnancy scandal.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Miley reveals: “When I first heard she was pregnant, I started crying. I was heartbroken to tell you the truth because she’s my friend and I didn’t want her life to change.
“But now she’s actually getting really excited and even though it’s a difficult situation, I’m happy for her now because she’s happy that she made the choices she did.”
The 15-year old also claims that she won’t be following in the same footsteps at Jamie Lynn’s troubled older sister Britney.
“Well, I’m aware that things can happen,” she says. “But I keep my friends and family superclose and that really helps.”

Billy Ray Cyrus is denying rumors that he deleted Lindsay Lohan’s phone number from daughter Miley Cyrus’ cell phone.
On Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday morning, the Idol host brought up reports claiming that the two young stars met Grammy weekend and traded numbers, but that Billy Ray went through Miley’s phone and erased Lindsay’s digits.
Billy Ray’s response: Not true. “We love Lindsay,” he said.
Cyrus, 46, emphasized that he wants his kids to think of him as a “best friend.” “I wanna be the person [Miley] wants to talk to,” he told Seacrest. Fifteen-year-old Miley has a lot of friends, and “I just want to be one of those friends.”
When Seacrest asked Billy Ray for words of wisdom on how to keep a teen star from running into trouble, the former “Achy Breaky” country star said it’s all about “having a good heart and loving people and knowing that you’re here for a reason.”
