Quentin Tarantino turned John Travolta’s entire career around with a memorable role in “Pulp Fiction,” and now he’s lending a similar hand to Mike Myers. According to Variety, the comedian who packed them in with the “Austin Powers” series and is the voice of the world famous green ogre “Shrek,” is set to join the cast of the director’s WWII thriller, “Inglorious Bastards.”
No, this isn’t some bizarre revamp of Myers character Fat Bastard from the “Powers” films. Instead, Tarantino’s long-awaited drama will find Myers playing British General Ed Fenech, a military genius who helps devise a plan to take out a number of Nazi leaders. He’ll join an already intriguing cast that includes Brad Pitt, Eli Roth (the “Hostel” director), B.J. Novak (the latest breakout star of “The Office”) and another Tarantino comeback candidate, Nastassja Kinski (”Cat People”).
While it’s unclear how dramatic “Bastards” will be in tone, this isn’t the first time Myers has stepped out of his over-the-top comedy comfort zone. In fact, he was one of the few actors to receive strong reviews in the 1998 drama “54.” And that’s a big compliment considering what a mess that misfire was.
Still, this role couldn’t come at a better time. After the disappointing returns for this summer’s “The Love Guru,” the industry was questioning whether Myers could succeed at anything but the International Man of Mystery. And rumor had it that the failure of “Guru” had Myers working on putting “Austin Powers 4” on the fast track. It’s still anyone’s guess if and when that will occur, but, happily, “Bastards” will keep him busy once production begins Oct. 15 in Germany.

Mike Myers is working on a new Austin Powers movie as a tribute to his late father.
The comedian was devastated when his dad Eric passed away in 1991 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
And he is now using the script for the fourth installment of the spy comedy to pay homage to his beloved father - by basing the story on their relationship.
A source tells Deadline Hollywood Daily, “It’s very personal with a father and son theme loosely based on his own life.”

Mike Myers’ movie The Love Guru is a tribute to his late father - because the actor conceived the film’s plot during a “spiritual quest” following his dad’s death.
Myers’ father Eric died in 1991 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The comedian admits he was so devastated by the loss he embarked on a journey of self-discovery to help him cope.
And it was during this time in his life that he was inspired to create the character of The Guru.
Myers explains, “I was devastated by his death. When my father died, I went on a little spiritual quest, just to try and make sense of it all. And, in many ways, The Love Guru is honoring him by dealing with his loss, because making silly movies is how I deal with things.”

Mike Myer’s Love Guru – which hits theaters today – is getting slammed by critics.
“What is the opposite of a belly laugh?” New York Times reviewer A.O. Scott wrote. “[It] is downright antifunny, an experience that makes you wonder if you will ever laugh again.”
Scott said “unfunny” and “obnoxious” do “not quite capture the strenuous unpleasantness” of Myer’s portrayal of the main character Guru Pitka.
“To say that the movie is not funny is merely to affirm the obvious,” Scott added.
The New York Post’s critic quipped, “If this movie were a president, it would be Tedious Roosevelt.”
Variety called the film “relentlessly juvenile” and the Associated Press reviewer blamed Myers: “From the credits of this scattershot comedy sketch stretched and strained to movie length, Myers clearly loved himself to the point of narcissism going in.”

Mike Myers created the voice for his new movie guru Pitka to cheer ill friends up.
The funnyman has been working on his The Love Guru character for years and came up with the comic spiritual leader’s Indian voice in an effort to give sick pals a laugh.
He explains, “The Seat of The Soul was a book I read that I saw on Oprah and I loved it. This is a guy who was a green beret and he was also a physicist. When I talked about what I was reading philosophically this mellifluous voice would emerge. My friends loved it and, in fact, would ask me to call them when they were not feeling well in that voice: `You have a cold? This is the universe telling you to be with yourself because the only way out is in.’”

I want to see this movie - cause I love Mike Meyers. I’m not such a fan of Jessica Alba, so hopefully she doesn’t kill it for me. I seriously cannot think of one movie she has made that I actually enjoyed. Plus, I think she’s a terrible actress. Okay, enough of that…
