So young Hollywood is really all over the place with expanding their talent horizons these days. Arrested Devlelopment darling, Michael Cera, released a surprise lo-fi folk album this week. Early reviews state that the album is ‘totally surprising, absolutely awesome.’ He’s already been compared to Beyonce, and he speaks with HuffPost Entertainment about the comparison and his own expectations.
“I mean, it does feel good to get the comparison. I get compared to her for a lot of other reasons and it’s nice to finally get compared to her musically.”
“I’d never had the courage to release anything I’d made musically, and finally a friend said that he thought I was being too careful with my music,” he said. “I mean, it takes a bit of a leap of faith when you’re giving something to the whole world to piss on and talk about and pull apart, but at one point I felt totally okay with it.”
Cera approached the whole process very casually, recording at his home in New York and using GarageBand on his computer. He has no current plans to tour – but perhaps that’s because he is beginning a stint on Broadway in September in the show, ‘This is Our Youth.’ He also has a film, Entertainment in the pipeline, with John C. Reilly, and is doing a voice for the animated film, Sausage Party, along with James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Edward Norton.
