Melissa Rycroft has revealed that she has swine flu. “I am indeed recovering from a bout of the H1N1 flu virus,” the former Bachelor star, 26, tells Usmagazine.com exclusively.

“Like most people who become infected, I thought I had a mild case of the common flu, but when my symptoms exacerbated, I immediately went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with H1N1 and given the proper medications to cure the infection.”

She said she learned a lesson from fiancé Tye Strickland’s mother, who is a nurse: Get checkups and get better. “I want to stress to people how easy it is to battle this flu when you take the proper steps such as seeking the care of a doctor,” she tells Us. “I’m a clear case that by paying diligent attention to your health, it’s easy to overcome this illness and be healthy again.”

Melissa Rycroft has set a wedding date!

According to the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now), The Bachelorette star, 26, is set to wed insurance-agent beau Tye Strickland on Dec. 12.

“We aren’t doing much. I think small, we plan small,” says Rycroft, who got engaged less than six months after being dumped in January by Bachelor star Jason Mesnick. “But whether it’s going to turn out the way we have it in our minds, I don’t know!”

Us Weekly also reports that Bachelor costars Jillian Harris and Naomi Crespo have scored invites, as well as Rycroft’s former Dancing With the Stars partner Tony Dovolani.

Wedding plans are falling into place for Melissa Rycroft – but it’s all thanks to the work of her fiancé Tye Strickland.

“Tye is planning more than I am,” the former Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars contestant confessed to People Monday night at the Verizon Wireless Matt Leinart Foundation Celebrity Bowl at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood. “At this point, I’m probably the worst bride in the history of brides.”

But Rycroft, who got engaged June 26 to Dallas insurance agent Strickland, 28, after they dated on and off for more than two years, says she’d rather be a bad bride than a bridezilla.

“I’m the exact opposite [of a bridezilla],” says Rycoft, 26. “I don’t know if we’ll get married ever by the way that I plan it!”

But she is thinking about one important part of the wedding: getting fit to show off her wedding dress.

“I’ve heard the stress alone of planning a wedding helps you get into shape for it, so we’ll see if I need to stress myself out a little bit to lose that extra pound!”

Barely four months after enduring a nationally televised breakup with indecisive Bachelor Jason Mesnick, Melissa Rycroft is engaged to fellow Texan Tye Strickland, the bride-to-be confirmed on Good Morning America Tuesday.

“Sometimes the stars align and the clouds part and everything works out the way it should,” she said in a phone call to the morning show.

Per Rycroft, the engagement took place in private at White’s Chapel in Southlake, Texas, after which the happy couple “went and met up with our parents and friends”—who were apparently onto something when they were reluctant to meet Jason last year—at a nearby restaurant.

Rycroft parlayed her rather heartbreaking Bachelor appearance into a third-place finish on Dancing With the Stars. Easy as ABC, the 26-year-old former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader was then offered a job as a special correspondent on Good Morning America this summer.

And it turns out Strickland was never too far from Rycroft’s side throughout.

“We’ve been really good friends, but the timing was never right,” she told Us Weekly of Strickland, who she started dating not long after Mesnick broke off their engagement.

“With all this going on, he’s my support system. It’s funny how things happen.”
