A decade ago, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan were the magical movie couple, seemingly unable to do any wrong at the box-office. Now, Hanks’ son is hoping to recapture some of that late-Nineties gold.
“There’s a movie I did with Meg Ryan – as well as Antonio Banderas and Selma Blair – which should be coming out at the beginning of the year,” the 29-year-old “King Kong” star told us. “But I don’t know the name. We’ve sort of changed movie titles, so I don’t know what it’s called.”
“I play an FBI agent who comes home to find out that his mother is dating an FBI suspect,” he said of the flick, which is now actually being called “My Mom’s New Boyfriend.” “He’s forced to bug the dates that his mom and this art thief [played by Banderas] go on, and comedy ensues.”
But if the title does revert to its old moniker, just know that Martin Lawrence has nothing to do with it. “‘National Security’?” Hanks repeated, referring to the 2003 Lawrence comedy. “No, ours was called ‘Homeland Security’, but they changed the title … Maybe [fear of confusion] is why they’re changing it.”
And if that film’s February release hits hard, look for the younger Hanks to double his old-school leading lady pleasure with a Diane Lane flick, also due in theaters at about the same time. “‘Untraceable’ is a thriller with Diane Lane … a very twisted kind of thriller, about this guy who tortures people online.”
Once again, Hanks will play a federal agent. “[The killer] tortures people live online, and we try to find out where he is and stop him,” he explained. “Diane and I play the FBI cyber cops that try and catch him.”
Directed by criminally-underrated filmmaker Gregory Hoblit (”Fracture,” “Frequency,” “Primal Fear”), the film also stars Mary Beth Hurt and Joseph Cross. Hanks, however, is quick to disassociate “Untraceable” from “Saw” and its disciples. “It’s pretty intense, but it’s not torture porn,” he grinned. “Some of the stuff I’ve seen is pretty gruesome – but I like to keep my torture and my porn separate.”

Actor Adam Brody considers his career a success now he has shot a movie love scene with Hollywood sex symbol Meg Ryan.
The 27-year-old former The O.C. star is proud to be the latest name on the list of Ryan’s onscreen love interests – a prestigious club including Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks, Hugh Jackman and Alec Baldwin – after starring alongside her in In The Land Of Women. Brody says, “When I got the part I thought about how many leading men she (Ryan) has been opposite, which are some of the greatest actors of this generation and I was excited and intimidated by that,” says a relaxed Brody from his home in Los Angeles. “I just didn’t want her to be disappointed in me. But I think we got along well and I think there was some chemistry there.
“I have been in teen shows for years, so doing that stuff (kissing) is kind of commonplace and not a big deal. “It was way more cool just because it was Meg Ryan.”
Ah, how cute.
