Matt Damon & Mark Wahlberg Re-Team for ‘The Fighter’

departed.jpg

Boston-born actors and The Departed co-stars Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg are set to star in a new film about boxer ‘Irish’ Micky Ward. Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked “The Fighter,” a drama about the Massachusetts-born boxer’s unlikely road to the world lightweight title.

Ward had a series of tough losses to Arturo Gatti that are considered among the best and most brutal bouts of the past 50 years. Wahlberg would play Ward, with Damon taking the role of Danny Ecklund, Ward’s half-brother who battled drugs and the temptation of crime to become the boxer’s trainer.

House executive producer Paul Attanasio is currently working on a rewrite of the script, and if approved by Wahlberg and Damon, the picture would begin shooting in Massachusetts this summer.

Diane Sawyer interviews Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, and asks the important questions.

Like - what’s it like to kiss Matt Damon AND Brad Pitt.

joliedamon.jpg

Angelina – ever the diplomat – said that the difference is simple.

“You know, one’s a friend, and one’s my love,” she said. (Nicely played, Ang.)

Sawyer then wondered if the love scenes were awkward for Damon (who’s totes BFF with Pitt). “How do you do a love scene with the girlfriend of your good friend, especially if they’re Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt?”

“It’s weird…We all know each other…” Damon said.

Jolie added: “In reality both the people we’re involved with couldn’t have cared less about that because they know us. You know, it’s one of those things where it’s like the least threatening person…You know, ‘Good luck to you guys, I hope it’s not too awkward.’”

In the film, Damon plays one of the first CIA spies and Jolie plays his wife who is crushed by her husband’s secrets.

“I think early on when we realized this was going to be the film where I am the weak victim and he is the cruel, cruel, terrifying scary man,” Jolie said.

Damon, 36, said that all the famously independent actress had to do was play her polar opposite. In one scene, Damon said, Jolie has to act “so apologetic and just so unlike Angie.”

Jolie, 31, has two adopted children – one from Cambodia and one from Ethiopia. Sawyer asked why she hasn’t adopted a needy American child.

“Well, I don’t see borders in the world,” Jolie explained. “I mean I work with programs here for all children.”

But Jolie says when she has adopted in the past, she has based her decisions on her emotions. “Well, to be honest, it’s just been, I’ve been led by something emotional…I’ve been moved by the countries.”

Another question following Jolie is when — or whether — she and Pitt will wed. Damon got married while making The Good Shepherd.

Damon, who married live-in girlfriend Luciana Bozan while making the film, said he was surprised how marriage changed their relationship.

“It had more of an impact on me than I thought it would,” Damon said. “We already had the house in Florida and everything, and so I didn’t. … I didn’t think it was going to really change anything necessarily, but it actually did.”

So will Pitt and Jolie ever take the plunge? In the October issue of Esquire, Pitt stood up for gay rights and proclaimed, “Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.”

“I think he was … he was commenting just on the state of [what] we all wish for,” Jolie explained. “That’s not really a comment on whether or not we would or if we plan to.”

Matt Damon opens up about being a daddy.

44vnwuo.jpg

MATT DAMON was terrified when he found out he was going to be a father, but now couldn’t be more thrilled with his role as a dad. Damon, 36 and wife LUCIANA, married in December 2005 and became parents to ISABELLA in June (06).

He explains, “I didn’t think that this would happen to me. Other people were always showing me baby pictures or trying to hand me the baby, and I was like, ‘Get that thing away from me. I don’t want to touch your kid. Give me a break.’ But I’m totally into it now.”

At first, the “scared” actor was “kind of excited for my daughter to be two. I was excited for her to start kind of talking and walking and toddling around hanging out, but I didn’t realise how much personality little people have right off the bat. I feel like I got made a member of a club that I didn’t know existed. It defies description, actually. (It’s) been just amazing.”

Matt Damon’s a dad!

Matt Damon and Luciana Bozan, 29, welcomed their first child Sunday June 10.

The baby girl named Isabella weighs 7 lbs., 7 oz. At about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, the couple checked into the Joe Di Maggio Children’s Hospital, part of the Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Damon was seen having a cup of coffee with a male medical professional at 10 p.m., before returning to the birthing area on the second floor. The couple’s family gathered in anticipation of the birth. Saturday afternoon, Matt’s mom, Lucy’s mom, and daughter Alexa, 7, two young cousins and a grandmother went to a museum near Parrot Jungle to pass time. They later settled in the maternity ward with their overnight bags and stayed all night until the child was born.
