One week after delivering a tipsy champagne-fueled speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala, the singer, 40, announced she’s launching her own line of bubbly.
“Didn’t realize they put the champagne on the tables, So we WOULDN’T drink it! LoL,” she wrote on Twitter Friday. “No, seriously ANGEL CHAMPAGNE (ROSE) by MC coming soon!”
Both George Clooney and Sean Penn mocked Carey’s Jan. 6 speech, which she jokingly blamed on Precious director Lee Daniels.
“We were celebrating and having little splashes, and I hadn’t eaten, and that’s what it was. We were celebrating the movie and all the exciting stuff going on,” Carey explained at the People’s Choice Awards the next day. “There’s a time for celebration and a time for not — but really technically, it’s a party atmosphere. We had splashes of champagne. I love Lee, but he’s a bad influence.”
The champagne won’t be the singer’s her first foray into alcohol production.
She invested in Mendocino County winery’s Mariah Zinfandel in 2006 — and even appeared on an episode of MTV Cribs knocking back a few glasses.
At Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards, the diva, 40, was asked about her sloshy speech Tuesday at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala.
“I don’t even know what it was,” she told reporters. “I heard clapping. You know, Lee [Michaels, Precious director] and I hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and he started right in with all these inside jokes, and I was like, OK.

Carey was the butt of jokes by Sean Penn and Jason Reitman, director of Up In the Air. “I think it feels just as good as Mariah Carey feels right now,” Reitman joked onstage while accepting an award at the show. “I should really leave now. I don’t think it gets better than that.”
Mariah Carey had attendees at Tuesday night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala scratching their heads.
After she was escorted on stage, she greeted her presenter and Precious director Lee Daniels at the podium with a little dance and a big hug.
She then busted out in laughter as she staggered to form a sentence while accepting the Breakthrough Actress award for her performance in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
“Please forgive me because I’m a little bit um, yeah!” she said between fits of laughter. (Watch a video of Carey here.)
“Oooooooh, my goodness!” she then added.
As she praised the director’s speech, she kept bursting into applause. “Sorry,” she told Daniels. “Sometimes I get a little …” she then paused to snap her fingers, adding “… you know, difficult.”
Then she giggled again.
Before leaving the stage, Carey thanked the audience “for listening to my little spiel, and God bless you.”
Backstage, USA Today reports, the diva kept photographers waiting, and would only be photographed on her right side.
Jason Reitman, director of Up In the Air, couldn’t help but poke fun at Carey’s on-stage giddiness. “I think it feels just as good as Mariah Carey feels right now,” he joked. “I should really leave now. I don’t think it gets better than that.”
