Maggie Gyllenhaal revealed in an upcoming issue of TheWrap Magazine that she was recently turned down for a role in a movie because she was too old to play the love interest of a 55-YEAR-OLD MAN.
YEAH. PS she’s 38. 38.
“There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time,” she said. “I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”
Well it’s making me CRY. That is insane, and shows just how terribly misogynistic the industry is.
Gyllenhaal didn’t specifically say what project she was turned down, but you know, if yousee a movie with a 55-year-old male character lead, make sure to skip it.
Despite the recent slam, Gyllenhaal also feels optimistic for women in entertainment.
“A lot of actresses are doing incredible work right now, playing real women, complicated women,” said the actress, who won a Golden Globe in January for her role in “The Honourable Woman” as an Anglo-Israeli businesswoman. “I don’t feel despairing at all. And I’m more looking with hope for something fascinating.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal welcomed another baby girl back at the end of April, and she’s looking amazing!
Maggie is out promoting her new film, ‘Hysteria’. The film takes place in Victorian England and documents the true events that led to a doctor accidentally inventing the vibrator to cure women of their “hysteria” — a catch-all misdiagnosis. (EW)
I’ve read several reviews on this film, and everyone agrees – it’s amazing. Several critics are calling it a “must-see feel-good movie”!
Sidenote:Rupert Everett is in this film, and he’s practically unrecognizable! Yikes! Time to lay off the plastic surgery!
