Jamie Lynn Spears gives mom’s book the thumbs up

Jamie Lynn & Lynne Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears brought her mother Lynne to tears after reading her new book Through The Storm – because she loved it.

The Spears family matriarch admits her eldest kids Britney and Bryan have yet to read her memoirs, but she’s thrilled her youngest daughter likes what she has read.

She says, “Jamie Lynn loved the book. I started to cry because I told her, ‘I wanted so much for you to like it.’ And she got up and kissed me on the cheek and said, ‘Mama, thank you so much.’”

And Spears admits that writing the book has also helped her mend her relationship with pop superstar Britney: “We are back to four or five phone calls a day.”

Lynne Spears: ‘Every mother makes mistakes’

Lynne Spears

Lynne Spears says that even knowing what she knows now, she would still let her daughters Britney and Jamie Lynn pursue stardom.

“I think you have to let them follow their dreams,” she says in a new interview with People. “I think it would be worse in the end if you didn’t.”

But she does express regrets about not listening to her “gut” at times: “Was I the perfect mom? No.”

In an exclusive excerpt from her new memoir, Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, Lynne, 53, details the highs – and lows – of her family’s journey from Kentwood, La., to the harsh international spotlight. “Every mother makes mistakes,” she writes, “and I’m no different.”

“I wanted the truth out in my own words for myself and my family,” she tells People of writing the book, which chronicles Britney’s highly publicized troubles and Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy at 16. The latter, says Lynne, “was probably the hardest time in my life.”

What do her kids – Britney, 26, Jamie Lynn, 17, and Bryan, 31 – think of the book?

She says Britney and Bryan have yet to read it, but “Jamie Lynn loved the book. I started to cry because I told her, ‘I wanted so much for you to like it.’ And she got up and kissed me on the cheek and said, ‘Mama, thank you so much.’”

Lynne’s once-troubled relationship with Britney “has undergone tremendous healing,” she says. “We are back to four or five phone calls a day.”

These days Lynne is also a doting “Me Maw” to her grandsons Preston, 3, and Jayden, 2, and granddaughter Maddie Briann, 2 months. Of Britney’s boys, she says, “They are the cutest! The biggest personalities you’ve ever seen. Preston is the older brother and he’s protective, but Jayden is tough as nails.”

Lynne Spears’ startling tell-all

Lynne Spears

As the mother of troubled pop star Britney Spears and teen mother Jamie Lynn Spears, Lynne Spears has had to overcome her share of parenting challenges.

In her new tell-all book about her life as the mother to famous children, Through the Storm, Lynne shares her story of the tough road she’s been down with her family, as well as her hopes for the future.

The Associated Press, which got an early look into the much buzzed about tell-all, to be published Sept. 16, reports today that the book includes stories from Britney’s singing and dancing childhood up through her meteoric rise and all the way to her recent pill-addled, head-shaving escapades.

Lynne details her feelings of powerlessness and a loss of control throughout Britney’s skyrocketing fame, marriages, children and ensuing highly publicized custody battles, as well as her struggle with drugs in her private life, says the AP. Lynne reveals that Sam Lufti, a constant presence in Britney’s life at the time, said he was grinding up pills and adding them to Britney’s food.

The AP also reports that Lynne felt like she had been “punched in the stomach” upon learning Jamie Lynn was pregnant at 16.

After two trips to the hospital this year, Lynne writes that Britney was finally given the care she needed, and that it was a “turning point” for their family.

A turning point, for sure, if Britney’s glowing, fit and levelheaded apperance at MTV’s VMA awards is any indication of the care she’s been receiving with the help of her family.

Lynne Spears: You’re Still My Brave Little Girl

2eprscp.jpg

The mother of Britney Spears says that the singer has overcome the tabloid nightmares of the past few years and believes that little by little, her daughter is regaining her “glorious voice.”

Lynne Spears writes of her famous child and her other celebrity daughter, Jamie Lynn, in “Through the Storm,” to be published Sept. 16 by Thomas Nelson, a leading Christian publisher. The Associated Press obtained an early copy.

The 211-page book, which includes several pages of family photographs, tracks Britney Spears’ life through her precocious early years _ she was singing and dancing by the time she was 3 _ through her explosive rise to her pill-addicted, near-tragic fall.

Lynne Spears describes young Britney as a confident, outgoing girl whose talents were so obvious that family friends would insist she would one day be on Broadway. Spears rejects the image that she pushed Britney into show business, and writes that the singer was always focused on achievement and would constantly practice to the music of Madonna, Whitney Houston and others.

In “Through the Storm,” Lynne Spears presents herself as a loving, selfless (she gave up her job as a school teacher for her daughter’s sake) but increasingly powerless parent. After the jolting, but pleasant surprise of Britney Spears’ debut smash, ” … Baby One More Time,” Lynne Spears says she felt she was losing control when a 1999 Rolling Stone magazine story featured a racy cover of the singer in panties and a bra.

Lynne Spears recalls feeling “shock and dismay” at seeing her daughter shave her head, at her brief marriages to childhood friend Jason Alexander and dancer-rapper Kevin Federline, and her highly publicized custody battles over her two children. She also recalls feeling she had been “punched in the stomach” when she learned that Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant at age 16. (I bet thats what she wanted to do to Jamie Lynn)

She praises Federline as a “caring daddy” and says Britney Spears is “an amazing mother,” but only when at her best. Lynne Spears also writes warmly of her daughter’s former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, but says the willful nature of the young couple helped break them up.

The bottom came in the past two years with Britney Spears’ increasingly disturbing public behavior and her drugged private life in her Malibu, Calif., house. Lynne Spears writes that she was distraught as then-manager Sam Lufti told her he was grinding pills and putting them in Britney’s food, hoping to induce a coma that would enable doctors to cure her of all addictions.

Britney Spears was hospitalized twice this year, the second time in February, when paramedics took her to the psychiatric ward of the UCLA Medical Center, where her mother says she finally received the care she needed.

It was, Lynne Spears writes, a “turning point” for the entire family.

On Sunday night, Britney Spears had clearly recovered from last year’s fiasco at the MTV Video Music Awards, when she bumbled her way through a performance of “Gimme More.” This time, Spears nabbed three VMAs, including video of the year.

“Wow, thank you, I’m in shock right now. I was not expecting this,” Spears, looking spectacular in a shimmering silver dress, said as she accepted her third trophy of the evening for “Piece of Me.”

Mother and daughter are close again, Lynne Spears writes, and Britney remains a “brave little girl who sang to the skies” so long ago.

Lynn Spears defends herself in her new book.

wenn5174035.jpg

From Britney’s breakdown to Jamie Lynn’s teen pregnancy, Lynne Spears has weathered a multitude of parental problems. Now, in an explosive tell-all book, Lynne Spears: Through the Storm, due out on September 16, In Touch can exclusively reveal that the 53-year-old defends herself against criticism that she’s failed as a mother.

By February 2007, her world had crumbled. Britney, in the midst of a mental breakdown, shaved her head. “It’s a mother’s worst nightmare,” the source says.

Last fall, Lynne was hit with another shocker — Jamie Lynn, 17, was pregnant by boyfriend Casey Aldridge. Perhaps most disturbing is the way that Lynne found out she was going to be a grandmother again. “Lynne writes that they handed her a note,” reveals the source. “She was furious.”

Since the arrival of Jamie Lynn’s daughter, Maddie, in June, Lynne’s rage has subsided. But according to the insider, there is one person whom Lynne will never be able to forgive for destroying her family — Britney’s former friend and manager Sam Lutfi: “She makes Sam out to be a monster and a predator who took advantage of Britney when she was most vulnerable.”

After reading the book, “You really feel for Lynne,” the source adds. “All she ever wanted was to raise a happy and healthy, loving family.”

Get the dirt on Lynne Spears’ parenting memoir ‘Through The Storm’

Lynne Spears' book

Lynne Spears’ parenting memoir is coming soon – and we have details.

Britney and Jamie Lynn’s mom wears a crisp blue shirt and thoughtful look as she peers out a window on the just-released cover of “Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World.”

According to ChristianBook.com, which is taking advance orders for the memoir, the book “takes readers beyond the reach of the paparazzi and outside the narrow orbit of the Hollywood glitterati to share the inside story of the Spears family – as only a mother can tell it.”

Lynne, 53, delves into the lives of her children Bryan, 31, Britney, 26, and Jamie Lynn, 17, in the tome.

Among the topics covered are Lynne’s response to Jamie Lynn’s teen pregnancy, Britney’s meltdown and how Britney’s rise to fame affected her family.

“Sincere, self-effacing, sometimes spunky, Lynne’s memoir reveals the heart of a mother who has struggled through difficult times and how she has held on to her faith and her sense of humor as she tries to hold on to her family,” the description says.

“Through the Storm” will be Lynne’s third book. She co-wrote two books with Britney – 2000′s “Heart to Heart” and 2001′s “A Mother’s Gift,” which was adapted into a TV movie, “Brave New Girl.”

Lynne’s latest work was placed on hold “indefinitely” in December 2007, following the announcement of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy.

The memoir is now scheduled to hit stands on Sept. 16.

Lynne Spears pleads for Britney’s charges to be dropped

Lynne & Britney Spears

Britney Spears’ mother Lynne is appealing to a judge to throw out a driving without a license charge against her troubled daughter.

The charge stems from a hit-and-run incident last year in which the 26-year-old hit a car in a parking lot, drove off and was later found to be without a driver’s license.

And in a court declaration filed on Wednesday, the Lynne maintains the Toxic hitmaker has temporary residences in Florida, New York and California – and was therefore unaware she was required to hold a California state license.

The document, obtained by TMZ.com, also alleges Britney intends to return to Louisiana to live – despite recent reports the star is hunting for a new house in Los Angeles.

The case will resume in court on August 11th.
