It was a mad house in the shop as hoards of fans and shutterbugs came out to see Lindsay put on a show. After all her hard work she gave a photo shot and sipped on her milkshake.

Mischa Barton was submitted involuntarily to a California mental health facility last week, and she’s still there. According to insiders, friends and associates have been trying to get Mischa into some sort of treatment for months, including party pal Lindsay Lohan.

The two club regulars often partied together into the early morning hours. But last year, Lindsay walked away from the friendship after a messy Mischa pushed Lindsay over the edge. Sources close to Lohan tell Fox 411 that the two girls haven’t spoken for months, but Lindsay would help Mischa if she asked for help to get through this latest fiasco.

“Lindsay and Mischa used to go out all the time together in Los Angeles. They were like kindred spirits when it came to clubbing and letting loose,” says the insider. “ They have many mutual friends, but everything shifted for Lindsay last year at a party. Mischa was completely out of control, and Lindsay sat Mischa down then to make it clear that she needed help. Lindsay was desperate for Mischa to clean herself up and offered a treatment facility and a therapist to help Mischa. Mischa completely ignored Lindsay, and that was the end.”

Several people close to the “OC” actress tell FOX411 she’s been on a downward spiral for years. “No one close to her is surprised,” says one pal. “Alcohol was like the gateway to other things for Mischa. Nobody has been able to stop her until now. Hopefully this psychiatric hold will force her to seek real help.”

Mischa’s latest stylist deserted her as well, says the insider, warning that ”Mischa must get help or she will be all alone. She can’t continue down the path of the last two years or so. It’s destructive and it will end her career for good.”

Lindsay Lohan has a new addiction — lollipops!

The (former) actress has been using candy to keep her vices — such as drugs and alcohol — at bay.

“Lindsay says she’s using candy to to distract herself from smoking and drinking,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

The source adds that Lohan is hoping to team up with Sugar Factory, a company that makes couture lollipops.

“Lindsay wants to either be the face for a new line of ads or design her own suckers,” said the insider.

Lindsay, 23, recently insisted that, despite her shocking reputation, she really is a hard worker.

“I do like to go out but there aren’t many girls my age who live in L.A. who don’t,” she said. “But what people don’t realize is that I work very hard during the day.

“I am a very hard worker, there isn’t much time during the day when I’m not thinking about work. I enjoy going out but I enjoy working more.”

Lindsay Lohan was left red-faced yesterday after her on/off girlfriend Samantha Ronson threw her clothes onto the street after another row.

The 23-year-old redhead turned up at Samantha’s Hollywood home at 6am on Monday morning – an hour after Samantha returned home alone after a late night with Sopranos actress Drea De Matteo.

After the couple were heard rowing in Samantha’s house, the DJ demanded Lindsay leave the house and threw a bag of the actress’s clothes onto the street.

During their early morning row, Lindsay was heard accusing Samantha of being a ‘liar’.

On Sunday night, Sam met up with Drea for dinner at Nobu in Malibu, before continuing the night elsewhere.

Sam, 31, finally returned to her house at 5am and laughed off a paparazzo’s assumption of a romantic date with Drea, 37.

She said: ‘She’s one of my best friends.’

Sam is friends with both Drea and her fiancé, country singer Shooter Jennings, father of her 20-month-old daughter Alabama.

After her late night with Drea, Samantha sent a message to Shooter – who is on tour in New York on Twitter, telling him he ‘was missed tonight’.

When Samantha was presumably in bed, an angry Lindsay stormed up to her house at 6am and repeatedly knocked on the door.

Lindsay recently admitted the couple’s relationship was volatile and she was unsure how long they would last.

She said: ‘I am so in love with Sam but the truth is neither of us can ever stop arguing with one another.

‘I wake up every morning and despite being more in love with Sam than I have been with anyone in the past, in all honesty I don’t know if we’ll still be together by the time we go to bed.’

If there’s one person that’s solidly in Lindsay Lohan’s corner these days, it’s her momager, Dina Lohan, who praises her daughter as a “genius” who just wants to be successful in her career and live happily with a family.

Lindsay’s most recent foray into the entertainment business is the production company she just started, a venture Dina is all about.

“She’s a genius. Such a good heart,” Dina told OK! at the Charlotte Russe 2009 Fall Launch in NYC, adding that Lindsay will also be heading behind the camera.

“Lindsay will direct one day. She loves directing,” Dina revealed to OK!.

And although Lindsay’s acting career might seem at a low ebb right now, Dina thinks a busy career isn’t the only thing to aim for in life.

“You know what, I taught my children to love. And if you fall in love, life is about that. Family, it’s not about work. You want goals, you want it to be, but you still want someone to share that with, so it’s kind of an open ended question. We’re all living that,” Dina explains to OK!. “We’re all looking for love and someone to be with; someone to share that with. My parents have been married for 50 years, we see that and that is important. It’s work, but you want to separate it, go home and have a family. [Work] is not going to be forever.”
