Anna Nicole Smith’s former lover Larry Birkhead has spoken out in a bid to set the record straight after buying the former Playboy pin-ups lingerie at a celebrity auction – and stating it was a keepsake for their one-year-old daughter Dannielynn.

Birkhead caused controversy after telling reporters he had forked out nearly $3,000 for lingerie the late star once wore for a Playboy shoot so he could give the saucy items to their tot.

But the photojournalist says his motives were innocent – insisting the lingerie represents a huge part of Smith’s life, and says he will pass the garments on to their tot as soon as she is old enough to understand their meaning.

He tells Eonline.com, “I didn’t buy Anna’s lingerie for Dannielynn. We’re still on Sesame Street. We won’t get to Playboy until at least the age of 21. Playboy was a significant thing in her life and career. It was something that I did with pure intentions. It’s something I will give her when she’s an adult so she can better appreciate what her mother was about.”

The tot’s mom, model/actress Smith, died from an accidental overdose last February.

Anna Nicole Smith’s former lover Larry Birkhead forked out nearly $3,000 for lingerie the late star once wore for a Playboy pinup shoot as a keepsake for their daughter Dannielynn.

Photojournalist Birkhead bought a pink bustier for $1,800 and a white negligee for $1,000 at a Las Vegas Auction on Saturday.

Birkhead said he is trying to ensure the pair’s one-year-old daughter has tangible memories to remember her late mother by at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino event, run by Julien’s Auctions.

He says, “I have a lot of history I have to put together that she doesn’t really know about. Playboy was such a big part of Anna’s career.”

The tot’s mom, model/actress Smith, died from an accidental overdose last February.

Just over a year since Anna Nicole Smith’s death, her 18-month-old daughter Dannielynn has been declared the sole heir to the former model’s estate, a Los Angeles judge has decided.

The toddler could conceivably inherit millions from the fortune of Smith’s late husband, oil man J. Howard Marshall, whose estate is still tied up in litigation in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Meanwhile, the judge has established a trust in Dannielynn’s name with her father (and guardian) Larry Birkhead acting as co-trustee with Smith’s former companion Howard K. Stern, who, until a paternity test proved otherwise, insisted he was Danielynn’s father.

In court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Oct. 18, 2007, Howard K. Stern, executor of Smith’s estate, sought to clarify the late reality star’s intentions in her July 2001 will, drafted five years before Dannielynn Hope’s September 2006 birth.

“We and Mr. Stern always believed that Anna Nicole never intended to disinherit her daughter,”‘ Stern’s lawyer, Bruce S. Ross, said after Tuesday’s hearing. “I’m pleased to say this chapter in the saga is closed.”

In addition to confirming Dannielynn Hope as Anna Nicole’s sole heir, Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff’s ruling also establishes a trust on her behalf with Stern and Birkhead as its co-trustees, Ross said.

Larry Birkhead denies he’ll cash in on his daughter Dannielynn’s surgery to correct her cross-eye – but we’re hearing otherwise. A source said Birkhead, Anna Nicole Smith’s lover, will invite “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” camera crews into the hospital when the tot has the operation next month. Birkhead, who has raked in millions from photos and interviews based around Dannielynn, was set to get $250,000 for the latest footage, according to our source.

“It’s not true,” Birkhead told Page Six. “I don’t mind letting the world know how she is when she’s done, but no cameras will be there during the surgery. The only reason I spoke about it to begin with was because people blamed Anna’s medications when, in fact, it’s genetic.”

Nearly a year after Anna Nicole Smith passed away, Larry Birkhead took their baby daughter, Dannielynn, to visit the graves of her mother and brother Daniel in the Bahamas.

In a special, multi-part interview with Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, airing on Wednesday, Feb. 6, Larry speaks out on why he decided to take 17-month-old Dannielynn to visit the grave. “It’s tough. Even though she doesn’t understand, it was important for us to come. One day I can tell her that we went to visit her mom.”

The graves of both Anna Nicole and her son Daniel remain unmarked, said Birkhead, because their headstones are still being finalized. “A rough draft came back with a sketch of a picture I didn’t care for. I could just hear her hitting me over the head saying, ‘Why did you let that picture go down!?’” Birkhead reveals that the design of the headstone will be “so grand and big. It’s going to encompass Daniel’s stone too.”

Larry admits to ET and The Insider that he doesn’t like that Anna Nicole and her son are buried in the Bahamas. “I know that Daniel didn’t want to be here and I know that his mother was only here because of what was going on between us with the paternity question. To me it feels really odd.” He is leaving the decision on whether to move the graves to Dannielynn, however. “I’m going to leave the decision to Dannielynn when she’s older. It would probably be very hard, if not impossible to take both of them and I definitely don’t want to separate them.”

Anna Nicole Smith’s former lover Larry Birkhead has revealed that his and the late glamor model’s daughter, Dannielynn suffers from “strabismus, which is a turning in of one of her eyes.

He told ET: “I’ve been taking her to the doctors and … [mom] Anna [Nicole Smith] had taken Dannielynn to the doctor [in the Bahamas] to see about it when she was just a few months old.”

The former photographer, 34, says the child now wears an eye patch to help treat the condition, which is prevalent in about 5 percent of children and cannot be outgrown.

“At first she was really open to it and it didn’t really bother her,” he says. “Now, she’s gotten a little smart because she can pull it off, so it’s a little bit harder for me to patch her.”

The youngster – whose name Dannielynn is a tribute to Smith’s deceased son Daniel, takes a course of medicated eye drops.

But if neither works, he says she may have to have surgery.

“I’m going to do everything to make sure that it’s corrected,” he said. “But having lost Anna and [her son] Daniel and my dad — my dad just came out of a simple surgery and he died — it’s just tough for me to think about surgeries with [Dannielynn].”

Birkhead says he is not sure how his daughter developed the eye condition.

“All of the opinions that I had [from doctors], every one of them said that it’s very, very unlikely, because no one knows one-hundred percent what causes [strabismus],” says Larry.

“But I point-blank ask every single doctor, ‘Could any medications that Anna was on have caused this?’ and they said that it’s more likely that a genetic reason could have caused it.”

Today, ET spoke to Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead as they shared their continued grief for Anna Nicole Smith on what would have been her 40th birthday.

Stern, whose own birthday is tomorrow, told ET, “My only wish is that Anna is celebrating her 40th birthday with Daniel and Howard (Marshall) in heaven and that they are able to experience the beautiful development of Dannielynn from above. Then I know that she would truly be at peace. She was more extraordinary than words can describe. I will never stop loving her.”

Birkhead reveals that he plans to commemorate Anna’s birthday with Dannielynn, “We will have a private family celebration to remember Anna. Time still hasn’t healed the wound of her untimely passing, as she truly was one of a kind. We miss her dearly.”
